The Run
Anthony Mayfield Jun 2018
Drop the lock
Gate's open
Go
NOW!
run, Run, RUN
Into the white
Into her sight
She's beautiful
Flash
Emerge, O child of mine
Spread your newly christened wings of glory
Flitter and flutter
To hither and yon
She'll adore your colors
She'll sing your song
Flash
Submerge, O tender heart
The deep is cold
But you'll catch your start
Free from those who try to gain
Free from all the surface pain
She waits at the bottom for you to stay
It's silent down here
But that's ok
Flash
She's right in front of you
She's fighting for you
She's waiting
She is singing
She shows you her colors
Her glorious vibrant colors
She is
She is
Go to her
Find her
Save her

Vast
Anthony Mayfield Jun 2018
I'm not a man who understands,
In fact, I fail all the time.
But there's peace in the pond.
I stare,
I shouldn't dare.
I hate to offend.
I'm a mortal man.
Yet still I gaze upon her unbroken soul.
She greets me with calming breath so soft.
Eternal bliss in her blue loft.
It's calm.
She welcomes me home.
There's peace in the pond.
I don't want to leave her;
Too many wonders unseen.
Her invisible hands caressing lush green.
Her mighty soft breath tingling me.
So here's to peace in the pond:
Fly, my angel,
To wonders unseen.
Fly, my angel,
May your Heaven stay free.
There's peace in the pond

Vacancy, A Poetic Narrative
Anthony Mayfield Jun 2018
Ding ****!
I’m home!
Let me in!
Out here, it’s cold as sin.
I’ve missed all of you.
Hello?
I see you...
You can’t hide through!
Ding ****!
Ding ****!
It’s cold out here...
Clouds come from my mouth.
I’m sorry I’ve been away.
I’ve been gone
So long...
But I’m back now!
Ding ****!
Ding ****!
Ding ****!
This isn’t funny anymore!
This game has quickly turned to bore!
This is my home for
goodness sake!
I see you all in there!
Why can’t you...
Can’t you...
You can’t.
You can’t see me.
You can’t hear me.
You forgot me.
I’ve been gone
So long...
But I’m back now!
I’ll help you remember me!
We’ll be reunited family!
Ding ****!
Ding ****!
Ding ****!
Ding ****!
Wait…
Oh no…
It’s him!
He’s found me again!
Behind the rock!
Behind the tree!
The Red Man still follows me!
He’s staring at me!
You can’t let him take me!
I lament for all the wrongs
I’ve wrought.
I repent for the false treasures
I’ve sought.
I’ve been gone
So long...
But I’m back now!
Let me in!
Save me from HIM!
DING ****!
DING ****!
DING ****!
DING ****!
DING ****!
This house is so pristine.
So perfect clean white.
And I the lone smudge as the first
Sign of blight.
But if you’d open the door...
Just open the door.
Save me before he comes!
I can be clean!
I’ve been gone
Too long...
Oh no he’s coming!
And I can’t keep running,
Running from red.
Don’t leave me to waste.
Please open,
Make haste!
DING ****!
DING ****!
DING ****!
DING ****!
DING ****
DING ****!
DING –

gone

The Sword
Anthony Mayfield Jun 2018
Give me a sword,
And I’ll slay the world.
The dragon I’ve known,
My friend so old.
A star watches the fight.
It sees,
It shines,
It cries.
Then the warm whispering wind...
She sweetly flows in.
Her warrior fierce,
Her warrior pierced.
With the arrows of the world in
His soul...
In my soul...
In our soul...
Though the world fights back,
And the world fights hard,
I have my sword
And the wind and stars.
The world is mine tonight. It will tremble before me as though I'm about to bisect it with a mighty sword.

Mischievous Moon
Anthony Mayfield Jun 2018
Some say I’m of the sun;
Burning bright and blue.
But few can’t understand
The woes of mischievous moons.

The day has its pay,
With drops of dew on its shoe.
It knows what to do.
It shines.
It’s wise.
Yet it frowns down upon the gloom
Known only by mischievous moons.

Someday we will collide,
And you’ll be lost in the fog
By my side.
“Hold me,”
You’ll beg.
“Hold me,”
You’ll plead.

But you cut me true.
You blocked my blue.

I’ve no time for the sun.
The night is mine to run.
Dark music and wondrous songs to accrue,
As I’m the mischievous moon.
The moon can't be controlled. It has many faces and phases, just as I have many moods and zones.

Words
Anthony Mayfield Jun 2018
I have nothing to say.
No words to write;
My brain is blank.
No rhythm to recite.
Why?
Why can’t I talk right now?
I’ve got so much to say.
And yet, I can’t say enough.
The old words have no meaning.
The new words have no value.
Besides...
Words can’t say much;
Actions talk so much more.
And words today have no final say,
Actions stage the show.
But I know you’re too close.
You’re too close.
What can I say to make my heart stay?
I really don’t want to know.
Words can't say much...

Silhouette
Anthony Mayfield Jun 2018
Pins.
Needles.
Knives.
Shadows.
They know my name.
They seek my fame.
stop
My Temple plays unwitting host
To the horrid displays they love to *****.
I don’t think I can bear to know what’s wrong
With me.
Stop.
I don’t think I can bear to know what’s strong or weak.
Weak?
Weakness?
Weakness.
Frailty.
It all comes down to the end.
It spins,
It slides,
It taunts,
Stop!
Maybe if I spin again my own weaved web to comprehend,
Then maybe I can fix this flux that burns down my will to trust.
STOP!
Or maybe I can fly again or jump to the sun;
An Icarus end.
STOP!!
die.
I SAID STOP!!!
I’m broken this time, you can bet.
It’s what I get for casting light on my silhouette,
When I wasn’t ready yet.
I said stop

Down
Anthony Mayfield Jun 2018
Down, down, down down.
What went around came back around.
The truth behind the smile is found.
So smile for me.
The identity of monstrosity has been unbound.
Now it’s down, down, down, down… down.

Down, down, down, down.
Feeling at home when you hear the wolves howl.
Alone, I own the lonely.
Why do you cry?
You should smile for me.
But everything is down, down, down… down… down.

Down, down, down, down.
The clock strikes red,
The blue lost its crown.
Just hide in your frown.
Come on and smile for me.
Then fall down, down… down… down… down.

Down, down, down, down.
What went around came back around.
I guess I’m the mayor of this dark down.
Smile…
No matter how high up we go, karma always comes back and brings us down until we're humbled.

Dry
Anthony Mayfield Jun 2018
Dry
I’m not alone

Forever surrounded by loved ones
Everyday should bring such peace
Everyday fresh thoughts to think
Looks to me like I’m in a dream

Shared by a loving family
Only the fortunate know it’s no travesty

Daily I feel such love
Running towards that home up above
Yup, this is the good life
We give the facade that we're happy with our lives, but behind the smile is the truth.

The Monster
Anthony Mayfield Jun 2018
There is a monster
Inside of my head.
It’s not in the closet,
Or under the bed.
Us two locked in combat,
Soon one will be dead.
War is peace
For this monster and me.
The arrow,
The notch,
The sword in the sheath,
It stops.
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
Blood.
Is it blood?
Have I spilled the beast’s blood?
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
Perhaps it’s water,
Please give me water.
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
Tears.
They are mine.
Streaking white across my face.
Fate is truly divine.
Fate is truly divine.
No monsters in the dark to fear,
For my monster is always a mirror near.
Drip,
Drip,
Slay.
There is a monster inside us all, just clawing it's way out. I fight mine all the time, in a constant never-ending warfare, fighting both valiantly and full of cowardice against my most fearsome monster of all... Myself
