Squared up, headlong, and gettin' gone
I've been fed up for so long
I had to write a proper breakup song
You've got your head in a hole
And your mind in the clouds
You have no earthly idea what your talkin' about
That's why I'm squared up, headlong, and gettin' gone

Squared up, headlong, and gettin' gone
I've been shushed up for so long
Think it's time I head to parts unknown
In the blink of a lie
I'll be movin' out
Somewhere clear out of sight of your mealy mouth
Yeah, I'm squared up, headlong, and gettin' gone

Squared up, headlong, and gettin' gone
I've been pent up for so long
Ain't nobody givin' this old dog a bone
Hey, little lady
Now, can't you see
That I'll never be your patsy or your property
I'm squared up, headlong, and gettin' gone

Squared up, headlong, and gettin' gone
I've been couched up for so long
Feel sorta like a stranger in my own home
What a sham, what a scam
What a full-blown farce
What a bottomless pit you call your heart
That's why I'm squared up, headlong and gettin' gone

Squared up, headlong, and gettin' gone
I've been fed up for so long
I had to write a proper breakup song
I'll tell ya, I ain't your subject
And you ain't my Queen
You can go back to your village finish livin' the dream...
Me, I'm squared up, I'm headlong, and I'm-a  gettin' gone
This is a song. I wrote it in the aftermath of my recent divorce. Outlaw country/***** tonk romp in the style of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Also, my current farewell to HP. I come, I go. That's just what I do. Always remember- don't write about the pain, write the pain. I'll see all of you fine folks on the other side of the page. VS
As for looking forward to brighter days
Those happily hearkened solar rays
That's just not something my mind relays
Always the rain, the rain always

No ultraviolet sight ablaze
I'm blinded by the night's malaise
Deluged without light or shade
Always the rain, the rain always

Through the flood my tomb is razed
My face is mud, my eyes are crazed
Soaked in dread of a watery grave
Always the rain, the rain always

Die To Love
I've seen the future and now bear witness to what I've always known

Your love will be the death of me

And after they've buried my body, long and low, deep and dim
My spirit will rise to write verse again

I shall burst forth from this atmosphere
Far beyond this temporal sphere
To pen your name into eternity

For You
For you, I would reach up and pick the stars, as flowers of the night

Gathering near, gathering far
Lost in the wonder of what you are

I would fetch the clouds and stitch them together
A coat for your fears
Amid inclement weather

No torrid rain
No howling wind
Nothing could harm or chill you again

I say now as a man-
All that I am, was, and ever will be
Is yours for the taking

For you, my heart, my spirit, my soul
My love, for the breaking
I imagine you reside in the shadows of the stars
If not there, then somewhere very rare, and far
Perhaps in the dunes, or the ruins of Mars
To be perfectly sure, you're  heaven carved
There's a spark about you that lights up the dark
Upon you, heaven's very kiss has made its mark
I long to leave this world and be with you
Wherever you are

Rain Songs
I know something of the rhythms and melodies of pain
First this way, then that
Soaring, falling, roaring, stalling

Planed out planes on a higher plane
Wraith trains shaking fate's chains in vain

Devilish desperados with desperate names
play desperation games
inside my veins

The eyes of their horses hidden by their manes
The thoughts of their voices pounding my brain
These are the sounds and the songs of rain

Rain is still rain by any other name
Waters will recede while floods will remain
Each separately singing equally stinging refrains
Nothing cuts deeper than these canyons of shame

Certainly, I know things concerning the rhythms and melodies of pain
And of four-legged creatures wholly untamed
Racing blood-soaked, unbridled, unreigned
Their clippety-clop clamorings running 'round my brain
These are the sounds and the songs of rain

The die is cast to die at last
Envision the vast everlasting
We live in the past too fast
Forward-fast future impasse
Intentions to pass and repass
Notwithstanding

Elusive are the ticks of tock
That take place in the mind
Marinating for meaning
And a design to define in art
Whether it be mind or it matter
At an epoch that unlocks where life starts

Present past, future tense
Beginnings and endings
Instantaneous events
The secret of the clock
Is that it can never count
The mystery of the sands
Remains on higher ground

Wait a second, forever and a day
Columns of sand pillars wasting away
With a time well spent in thought
Immortality and perpetuity
Illusion of continuity
Momentary lapses of universal ambiguity
A collaboration with Cné. Thanks so much, my friend!

You Can Turn The Sky On
Only you and the sun can turn the sky on
There are few things in this world
That a man can rely on

When this world grows cold, the sun's very fire gone
On the day that you must go
That's the day I will die on

Only you and the sun can fight the moonlight
Beat back the sadness
The madness of midnight

Sanctify the gladness, steadfastness of daylight
Bookend the badness
Upend the dark night

Only you and the sun can sing destiny's song
The darkest of your hours
Are brightest before dawn

If fate were unfaithful, or otherwise forlorn
Life itself would still be grateful
For the day that you were born

Only you and the sun are deserving of twilight
A state of solemn grace
And harbinger of starlight

Now face to face with you by the firelight
I pray that I wake
Beside you at first light

Love Is A Light Unrepentant
Love is a light
A wondrous light
Bold and marvelously unrepentant

Love it is right
It fights the good fight
Championing hope and transcendence

Love is a light
A splenderous light
Unwavering in its resplendence

Love is a light
An irreproachable light
Gloriously devoid of repentance

But For The Night
But for the night
Lights are not bright
Nothing can shine
While out of sight
Can't be divine
Or exude delight
But for the night
The night, the night

But for the night
Stars can't take flight
Nothing can soar
While out of sight
Can't well rip-roar
Or shoulder heights
But for the night
The night, the night

But for the night
The night, the night
Stars they can't soar
Can't shine their light
Heavenly horde
Of divine delights
Counted as void
But for the night

maelstrom of moribund memories
shortlist of long-lusted envies
amalgam of devastations frenzied

i would have died long ago
if i'd known i had it in me

cajoled choruses of conceit
abject persuasions of defeat
adjunct desolations unceased

i reckon there are worse things
than a man being deceased

uniquely embittered heartstrings
sophisticatedly littered hope-dreams
unashamedly delivered hurt-schemes

but the loneliness was the worst thing

The Farthest Place On Earth
The distance between your heart and mine
Is like the farthest place on Earth
Far-off places come to mind
Like Jakarta, Tangiers, and Perth

Take a flight roundtrip on my dime
Then you'll know what your love is worth
For the the distance between your heart and mine
Is like the farthest place on Earth

Chosen Things
Chosen things from rows of things
Deciphering the prose of things
Weigh the highs and lows of things
Parse the why's and woes of things

The endgame shame of choosing things
You choose a thing you lose a thing
Just like you never knew the thing
And naturally you'll rue the thing

In time your mind may skew the thing
Season how you view the thing
The reasons why you choose a thing
Contrarily imbue the thing

Write On Resurrection
I'm longing for the glory days

My pen moving in motions
that defied known direction

Well-placed words can swallow whole the bones of perception

And so until these hands are cold
I'll pursue this resurrection

Eternal Musings Eternally
Time
They say it comes
They say it goes
They say it takes but always gives

I've walked the weeping sands
of seven lonely seasons
My conscience seared in strands
by full-level demons

Time
They say it flies
They say it flows
They say it begins but never ends

Invariably I've dreamt
of the inevitable end of days
My threadbare thoughts adrift
inside the daymare haze

Time
It cries memories

Time
It fogs the mirror

Time
When wiped away
keeps getting ever-clearer...

This life is a vapor
This life is a vapor
This life is a vapor
This life is a vapor

This life is no bang
It's merely a whimper
Partially inspired (in style and content) by T.S. Eliot's poem "The Hollow Men".

The Past Has Passed Away
Night reaps day for its shade
Days are made for to phase
Nothing stays for all is swayed
Alas, the past has passed away

Future era, present age
Epochs tarry, eons fade
All is swayed for nothing stays
En masse, the past has passed away

Lay now your plans, bare and brave
Timeless sand is a slippery knave
All give back that which is gave
To wit, the past has passed away

Under The Purview of Poets
in oneness of hope
we go forth

to taste the last tear
to face the last fear

indeed to cup the ear
on the cusp
of eternity's scream

bound by our fealty to reason
brought on by the savage mad-seasons
where legions of treasonous lesions
straddle continuum's seam

well versed in the precepts of sorrow
immersed in regrets of tomorrow
ingest we the beating breast
and pick the chest-bone clean

in life as in death
we resound

RE-SOUND
reverberated requiems

RESTATE
reinvigorated impetuums

RELIVE
unadulterated invectives

REVEAL
unemancipated objectives

we mustn't recoil
we shan't recant

upon words aflight
our spirits alight

in oneness of hope
we write

The harder the luck

Shoot 'Em Up
He was born at a time when the times were no good
When you'd get what you got and you got what you could
And any ground that you gave was right where you stood
And the men were men and the boys were men too
And they did what they said and they said what they'd do
There was Hell to be paid and the Devil was due

You gotta shoot 'em up bang bang
Fill 'em full of lead
Shoot 'em up bang bang
Until they're dead
"They're gonna have to pay"
That's what he said

Shoot 'em up bang bang
Gotta make 'em squeal
Shoot 'em up bang bang
Gotta seal the deal
For the pain he'd have to carry
He would see them killed

You know the darker the secret the deeper the grave
His sweet Maggie had up and left him for his best friend Gage
And that's enough to channel any man's inner rage
At first he missed her so and prayed to be released
Especially every morning when waking to no peace
Then one day he awoke and decided it would have to cease

You gotta shoot 'em up bang bang
Fill 'em full of lead
Shoot 'em up bang bang
Until they're dead
"They're gonna have to pay"
That's what he said

Shoot 'em up bang bang
Gotta make 'em squeal
Shoot 'em up bang bang
Gotta seal the deal
For the pain he'd have to carry
He would see them killed
This is a song. Southern rock.

I'll Shed A Tear For You
Hey sweet lady, Queen of Pains
You who stole treasures from my veins
Scattered my soul, scorned my name

When you're down and out
And you're drowning in doubt

When you're stuck inside your fears
And all your hope has disappeared

When your heart has fallen out
And your spirit is crying out
On that day, I'll shed a tear for you

A Day Or Two
A day or two
that's all it takes to break a man

A day or two
without someone to hold his hand

He worked so hard his whole life
not to lose a love
he thought was true

And after she left
he lost it all
in a day or two
True story.
The last time I saw you was the very last time that I ever saw you
I'll never forget that look you gave me
Like you were looking at some stranger

There was something about your eyes like a thousand thorny sighs
You didn't say a word
To you, our love was absurd

Still, I want you to know that I never meant for you to hurt me
Today my good friend told me I've been waitin' to die
He's halfway right- I've been waitin' to live

Suicide Salvation
on the brink of madness am i
to not want to live but die
rather this than live a lie

abstract is my mind's eye
but why?
i need to know from whence came these tears I cry

i've now lived but a score
the average of the flesh?
three score, maybe more
the thought of two score more is futile at most
"i'll **** you" to myself i boast

amazing that man has the power to free his own soul
but i know too well it would be freed into the depths of Hell
therefore, i must live
and hope to someday savor the fruits of sweet salvation!

Painting of My Heart
Paint my heart as empty
all blue and black and grey

Around it perforate a circle
from beginning back to start

Paint it very gently
then quickly pull away

Tearing it out
without ripping it apart

Someday they'll surely place it
in the Gallery of Fools

Inside the Wailing Walls
out past the Hall of Shame

And when the people face it
they'll cherish their own hearts

As if anatomy has
anything to do with pain

Oh, I can't believe that you would leave
I thought you were my friend
And Papa, when are you coming home again?

Now my days roll by like the sun rolls by

and I've emptied my veins

restoration of sight brought to mind

Wisdom, understanding
knowledge notwithstanding

ensconced, encamped

reborn, revamped

Believe Me
Believe me, when I tell you that I love you
Believe me, when I say that I was wrong
Believe me, I can't live my life wthout you
Believe me, I can't believe that you're gone

Cause you, you were my sunshine (comin' down)
And you, you stopped the rain
Oh, you- you'll find somebody new
But I'll never love again
No, I can't fake it- my heart belongs to you
Said I can't fake it- my heart belongs to you

Believe me, I'm forever thinking of you
Believe me, I'm still waitin' by the phone
Believe me, I will never rise above you
Believe me, I will forever be alone

Cause you, you were my sunshine (comin' down)

Here You Come Again
It's no secret that liars love the most
It's no secret that most lovers lie
It's no wonder that many lovers leave
You stole all my thunder, and I can't even breathe

Here I go again, drowning hopes and strangling dreams
Here I go again, doubting love and dreading time
Here I go again, feeling helpless and obscene
Here you come again, running through my mind

There's no shame in saying what you feel
There's no shame in feeling all you say
There's no real pleasure in my knowing what you lost
You have no concept of just how much I cost

Here I go again, drowning hopes and strangling dreams
Here I go again, doubting love and dreading time
Here I go again, feeling helpless and obscene
Here you come again, running through my mind

Take back your promises, and the memory of your face
Take back your false tears, and your false commitment too
Take back those three words that now ring so cold
You that bled my believing heart, and stirred my immortal soul

Here I go again, drowning hopes and strangling dreams
Here I go again, doubting love and dreading time
Here I go again, feeling helpless and obscene
Here you come again, running through my mind

Desert My Heart
Goodbye my friend
I'll never gaze upon the light of your face again
Behind every man's eyes
The war within
I could never let you in
I would never let you in

Turn away - desert my heart
Leave me here inside the dark
Blind and strayed
Scared and scarred
Desert my heart
Desert my heart

Farewell my love
I'll never glimpse the grace of your face again
Behind every woman's eyes
The peace within
You could always let me in
You would always let me in

Turn away - desert my heart
Leave me here inside the dark
Blind and strayed
Scared and scarred
Desert my heart
Desert my heart

We've spent a lifetime dictating to stars
Making believe that heaven was ours
Living this make-believe love of ours

Please don't leave your love-light on
Come sunup I'll be gone
I'm so sorry I was wrong

I could never let you in
I would never let you in

Turn away - desert my heart
Leave me here inside the dark
Blind and strayed
Scared and scarred
Desert my heart
Desert my heart
This is a song.

Saints of The Vapor
We're the Saints of The Vapor
that's our God-given nature
the future's a formality
presenting providential fallacies

The past foreknew the present
followed it in its essence
surpassed it with its prescience
forestalled its current presence

See me now, catch me later
neither instance is less or greater
straight lines run instantaneously
altogether extemporaneously

Time is selfish
Time is fleeting
Time is all we're truly needing

We're the Saints of The Vapor

Workin' To Live
Wake up every mornin'
Strap those work boots on
Alarm clock's alarmin'
Ain't no place like home
Time's already wastin'
Lord knows I want to stay
But the man is there waitin'
And I've got to have my pay

Gotta pay those taxes
Gotta pay my bills
Some folks live for workin'
I just work to live

Jimmy's got a good job
More than a decent wage
He built him a hot rod
Ain't ever seen the light of day
Yeah, he's got plenty money
Seems to have it made
Now he's got a second job
Saw him just today

Jimmy's lost his passion
Jimmy don't know his kids
Jimmy lives for workin'
Me, I work to live

I come from Alabama
Where all my kin folks fled
They left for a better life
At least that's what they said
And like a sheep I followed
Stayed within the fold
Now my life is mostly borrowed
On cards, and deeds, and notes

Need some satisfaction
I'm feelin' unfulfilled
Sick and tired of workin'
Gotta work to live
This is a song. Shout out to Thomas A. Robinson!

Without You
There isn't anyone
Who can light up my days
And burn up my nights like you

There isn't anyone
Who knows just what to say
To open my eyes like you

So tell me what in the world can I say
Tell me what in the world I can do
It just can't be we're through

It took us so long to build it so strong
And losing you is tearing me down

There ain't no stars in my eyes
No hope in my heart
No dream in my mind
Nowhere I can hide
No way to survive

I knew you were the one
The moment
That we first met

You know you are the one
Who made me forget
All the rest

Someone To Hold
Loving me ain't easy, I'll be the first one to admit this
And I was so wrong to be right, when I loved you

Don't forget this

People can say what they want, and do as they please
People can walk out of your life, and never even leave
Seems to me the pages are getting thinner as the story unfolds
And for the first time, I need someone to hold

Loving you ain't easy, you'll be the last one to admit this
And you were so wrong to be right, when you dumped me

Don't forget this

People can play with your heart, with the greatest of ease
People they can twist your arm, and never touch your sleeve
Seems to me I'm just another rich man in poor boy clothes
But for the first time, I need someone to hold
Song poem.
A few years ago I bought my first guitar
I had no aspirations of becoming a star
I've never wanted to be recorded, produced, or sold
After you left I just needed something to hold

You're the only reason I play guitar
Playing is my way of healing your lost love scars
Sometimes I still wonder where you are
Yeah, you're the only reason I play guitar

Guitars are made for feeling
Guitars will stay around
Guitars are built for healing
My guitar won't let me down
Like you did, like you did, like you did

I must be at a crossroads in my life
Seems I can't tell the difference between wrong and right
And you ain't helping things by being gone
How I wish you could hear this guitar moan

You're the only reason I play guitar
Playing is my way of healing your lost love scars
Sometimes I still wonder where you are
Yeah, you're the only reason I play guitar

Guitars are made for feeling
Guitars will stay around
Guitars are built for healing
My guitar won't let me down
Like you did, like you did, like you did

You're the only reason I play guitar
Playing is my way of healing your lost love scars
Sometimes I still wonder where you are
Yeah, you're the only reason I play guitar
