*"This is but once an end to us, A single blot upon our page. There is still much we will discuss. In another time; another age"* **Her palm went weak within my grasp, As her soothing voice began to fade. And like the biting of an asp, There was no bargain to be made.** *"I cannot breathe this wretched air-- Made toxic by her extinguished breath-- And were I to feel I could not care, I'd follow her into her death."* **A plague upon mortality! A curse 'pon all the gods! And yet the binds of morality, Will maintain all uneven odds.** *"There is still much we will discuss. In another time; another age"* **It repeats and rolls--a cursed chorus, Set 'gainst a melody that dances up a rage.** **Nothing left to discuss; no other time or age. No longer can I breathe her breath; there is no other way. The world is not a picture show; we're not born on a stage! Life exists for pain and loss; there's no grand scheme we play!** *"I cannot live this wretched life-- Made empty by her extinguished flame-- I'd hoped that I could make her my wife, But not all plans are laid the same..."* **I drag myself into the street-- Away from the memories of her-- And fall 'neath the current of marching feet. I try to forget all that we were...** **Then I sense a figure there, A silhouette among the crowd. And all I'm left to do is stare, With what little strength I'm left endowed.** *"There is not but once to any end, No singularity to the times. Though it will not repeat, my friend, The past works well in rhymes."*

Shouting for longevity, Slamming at the counterers… - upon your dignified respite! Would-be detractors without brevity, Before the wine-dark Sea at night… A pleading to philosophy of commonly renowned, Beating sand and posturing, uncouth before a crown; “Priam please!” Sun and Moon, two sons shall plead, nay, -beg in tandem with the man; “He serves the seas, trust him please, our father; this priest of Trojan-land!” Laocoon “Fear the Greeks, of mind I speak, approval by a van-i-ty; it surely is a death you seek! An asp this horse, gift no more and tragedy in due remorse, I beg of you my call to heed, wooden-burnt this crispy steed, …alight in flame, glorified name; Poseidon shall endorse!” Priests of Apollo “Ridiculous! Worship we must, now bring it to the City thus!” Laocoon “The actions of accursed Kore, Need I remind you all Paris caused this war? For he mocked this god, the abyss it knows, with terror comes a deadly tide, **** that fool and his fiddling pride!* Burn this beast we must with haste for Greeks they have a certain taste, Their acts meant always to confound, wily, since they were unbound. What harm may do, to rest at shore? Consult the stars of yester-yore. Assign no chore, one heaven’s night, plus a day, to sit upon our princely shore?” Setting (read/spoken at the fastest pace the reader can go) A horrid hiss above the wave as two doth slither from out the cave…   The creatures from the darkest days, ancient spectacle for the knaves, bear witness to the punishment, commanded by a great trident, hearing screams of bannermen, for King and council a shocking twist, serpents ****** from out the mists, encircling priest and his kin, the howling they had done no sin, never be forgot-ten, as Typhon cried out merrily, serpents and the tragic sea; swallowed up all the three. Priam “Farewell dear Laocoon and two sons with thee!” *

I How should I seek to make a song for thee When all my music is to moan thy name? That long sad monotone - the same - the same - Matching the mute insatiable sea That throbs with life's bewitching agony, Too long to measure and too fierce to tame! An hurtful joy, a fascinating shame Is this great ache that grips the heart of me. Even as a cancer, so this passion gnaws Away my soul, and will not ease its jaws Till I am dead. Then let me die! Who knows But that this corpse committed to the earth May be the occasion of some happier birth? Spring's earliest snowdrop? Summer's latest rose? II Thou knowest what asp hath fixed its lethal tooth In the white breast that trembled like a flower At thy name whispered. thou hast marked how hour By hour its poison hath dissolved my youth, Half skilled to agonise, half skilled to soothe This passion ineluctable, this power Slave to its single end, to storm the tower That holdeth thee, who art Authentic Truth. O golden hawk! O lidless eye! Behold How the grey creeps upon the shuddering gold! Still I will strive! That thou mayst sweep Swift on the dead from thine all-seeing steep - And the unutterable word by spoken.

The Mantra-Yoga
Socrates consumed Hemlock, Cleopatra embraced the Asp, Alan Turing ate an apple laced with cyanide, I, like those before me, Have picked my poison; An absinthe-eyed, quicksilver-tongued boy. He was unsettled when I answered with the truth of his query, Yes, he is poison, I knowingly and willingly consume every drop of him, Not all toxicity is solely adverse, Radiation treats cancer, Venom in low doses is an antidote, Ethanol relaxes muscle and numbs the emotions. He is my poison and my antidote, He is the corrosive acid that dissolves gear-stopping rust, I, in kind, am the poison apple of his eye, Or so he says, And so, we two, bask in the destruction of ourselves, Consuming each other's pain, insecurity, madness, and lust, Why is it that he, a poison, is the one I trust?

Pick Your Poison
I've been sedated and sold bought by gypsy ways my inhibitions have been stolen by mundane sober days I've been troubled and wandering trying to find a place to lay but the sleeping don't bring rest so I found a place to play shisha smoke fills my mouth MDMA rolls hard in the back of my eyes and there's no feeling lonely no hours to own me no imperfections to hold me in knowing no place as home in my eyes child fires bright with delight and hunger for more my memory written down quickly in thin white asp bite lines crimes of the right mind the creative souls borderlines sweat rolls over my body my arms find the sky I can't see the ugliness spying through childs eyes with my hands razor blade shakes my poetry's written one line at a time and there's no feeling helpless no reminders of distress wandering free and careless in knowing no place as home in my eyes child fires bright with delight and hunger for more I hear music even in the hush MDMA lusch, I crave life with a violent crush with two wide lines and the life of one white pill my life is filled with more beauty than I can stand until I can't even stand

ORION
Thrill with lissome lust of the light, O man ! My man ! Come careering out of the night Of Pan ! Io Pan . Io Pan ! Io Pan ! Come over the sea From Sicily and from Arcady ! Roaming as Bacchus, with fauns and pards And nymphs and styrs for thy guards, On a milk-white *** come over the sea To me, to me, Coem with Apollo in bridal dress (Spheperdess and pythoness) Come with Artemis, silken shod, And wash thy white thigh, beautiful God, In the moon, of the woods, on the marble mount, The dimpled dawn of of the amber fount ! Dip the purple of passionate prayer In the crimson shrine, the scarlet snare, The soul that startles in eyes of blue To watch thy wantoness weeping through The tangled grove, the gnarled bole Of the living tree that is spirit and soul And body and brain -come over the sea, (Io Pan ! Io Pan !) Devil or god, to me, to me, My man ! my man ! Come with trumpets sounding shrill Over the hill ! Come with drums low muttering From the spring ! Come with flute and come with pipe ! Am I not ripe ? I, who wait and writhe and wrestle With air that hath no boughs to nestle My body, weary of empty clasp, Strong as a lion, and sharp as an asp- Come, O come ! I am numb With the lonely lust of devildom. ****** the sword through the galling fetter, All devourer, all begetter; Give me the sign of the Open Eye And the token ***** of thorny thigh And the word of madness and mystery, O pan ! Io Pan ! Io Pan ! Io Pan ! Pan Pan ! Pan, I am a man: Do as thou wilt, as a great god can, O Pan ! Io Pan ! Io pan ! Io Pan Pan ! Iam awake In the grip of the snake. The eagle slashes with beak and claw; The gods withdraw: The great beasts come, Io Pan ! I am borne To death on the horn Of the Unicorn. I am Pan ! Io Pan ! Io Pan Pan ! Pan ! I am thy mate, I am thy man, Goat of thy flock, I am gold , I am god, Flesh to thy bone, flower to thy rod. With hoofs of steel I race on the rocks Through solstice stubborn to equinox. And I rave; and I **** and I rip and I rend Everlasting, world without end. Mannikin, maiden, maenad, man, In the might of Pan. Io Pan ! Io Pan Pan ! Pan ! Io Pan !

Io Pan ! Io Pan ! Io Pan ! Pan ! Io Pan !

IN DORMIVEGLIA
~ *Memphis and the King, plagued up to his neck in denial, turning remote controls into staffs, staffs into snakes, jackals, and hounds, shaking the sistrum, singing gospels full of mystery to a god, a girl, and state of mind he will never solve, asking skies of transulent orange, from the far corners of his world, for pharmacopia, then granting Moses his freedom in exchange for a box of hot glazed doughnuts, and always his little wild petunia, painted face and percolating body, skin smooth as the eastern Delta, her weighted down heart, his tyranny, his self-destructive tongue, her asp* ~

Pharaoh
The pale sands shadow your skin The moon’s light bares you no justice Its shine is nothing compared to your eyes Nor does the ocean beside me, twinkle greater than they do The goddess of the night waits atop her throne Eyes that pierce the clouds and space itself With the face that sent many ships to the deep of the ocean The heart and mind to mend and destroy You are my Helena, my Calliope, my Cassiopeia, and the River Queen Cleopatra The waves splash my feet, my love My boat is bound for lands dangerous The white sand grips my feet, and I grip back I wish not to leave you my goddess Wait not for me, Lunar Matriarch For I shall not return alive Leave my body afloat dear Gods Let my ship burn, my men die I shall never see this beach or my Aspen Harlot afterwards.

Asp
What I should have said when Mike Whittle died, was what a mighty man he was, though small in stature, yeah, how he set the students’ minds on fire. Instead I said he always jabbed himself with insulin while we were having lunch and I said that this was a literary tradition like Polonius being stabbed in the arras and Mark Antony falling on his sword after Actium before Octavian could get there ahead of him. And then I said that Antony's lover Cleopatra died when she arranged to be bitten on her ***** by an asp. And I thought I was a smart *** by saying don’t get confused and think she was bitten on her asp. Well, Mike and I did laugh about literary allusions, along with all that insulin and his pancreas, during all of those immortal lunches. But what I should have said was that students worshiped him, and they said that ‘he gave me my love of learning’. Mike, you mighty little giant. And how I loved that you could laugh when the admin staff tried to cut you down because they hate popularity so much. Those blasts of laughter in your classes frightened them and they thought you were an iconoclast. Oh Mike.  I love you, just like all your students. That's what I should have said about the gifts you gave us all in Learn, Love and Laughter 101. This is your immortal epitaph. Mike T Minehan

What I Should Have Said
Give me a moment I've lost my breath. Hold it in, it's all I've got left. Renew the true And exhale the stale. Once it slips away, I g(r)asp! Running after it, it goes too fast! Look, almost nothing left, Better take a breather, Hope it will last.. Ask yourself what's the difference between either and neither? Better not to choose, Waste your time, it's the breath you'll lose. But, a 'mountain high' can be found; Upward, one may look at a mountain around, But it is here under your feet, the highest earthly ground. - Hold me up prayer of the nigh, Immanent and strong~ I hear thy song. Wrap me in What there is to see. Dream out ten thousand flowers, A dream of you and me. What's left to say But that "I love you." ~

The Breath
Is it thy will that I should wax and wane, Barter my cloth of gold for hodden grey, And at thy pleasure weave that web of pain Whose brightest threads are each a wasted day? Is it thy will—Love that I love so well— That my Soul’s House should be a tortured spot Wherein, like evil paramours, must dwell The quenchless flame, the worm that dieth not? Nay, if it be thy will I shall endure, And sell ambition at the common mart, And let dull failure be my vestiture, And sorrow dig its grave within my heart. Perchance it may be better so—at least I have not made my heart a heart of stone, Nor starved my boyhood of its goodly feast, Nor walked where Beauty is a thing unknown. Many a man hath done so; sought to fence In straitened bonds the soul that should be free, Trodden the dusty road of common sense, While all the forest sang of liberty, Not marking how the spotted hawk in flight Passed on wide pinion through the lofty air, To where some steep untrodden mountain height Caught the last tresses of the Sun God’s hair. Or how the little flower he trod upon, The daisy, that white-feathered shield of gold, Followed with wistful eyes the wandering sun Content if once its leaves were aureoled. But surely it is something to have been The best beloved for a little while, To have walked hand in hand with Love, and seen His purple wings flit once across thy smile. Ay! though the gorged asp of passion feed On my boy’s heart, yet have I burst the bars, Stood face to face with Beauty, known indeed The Love which moves the Sun and all the stars!

Volcanic fury spies my bane, Fragment the skies for ****** rain. Malaise, ire, eclipsing lunar wane, Taste ferric gore of inner vain. Cannot expel this rotten stain, Neural nets collide with a train. My brain is made of candy cane, Fake a smile lest I turn insane. Murky shadows caress my mane, While scintillating colors reign - Supreme blades seek to slain.. That argent asp from memory lane. Once scattered amidst the grain, Mellow peace stole away my chain. Find me some red paella in Spain, Bask in sunny shine by the Seine. Living a lie, what would I gain? Revel in glory, yet there is pain. Carpe diem, the future I disdain, All aboard the seismic hydroplane.

You look a picture framed by bathroom door... my modern Cleopatra risen scented with milk from coconut. Your hair and body bound by exotic weave... you sway and bend like Nile reed or weathered wheat still wet from waters kiss... as I add mine to perfumed skin given a taste of heaven in slow descent to cardinal sin. I no Caeser no Mark Anthony nor would I be when I the asp am clasped to her sweat breast and bid to bite... in fained death amongst egyptain cotton laid my love my life as I prepare this night to make of her... a mummy.

I am So tired. I am cold And white And blind. On my wrists, Defensive wounds From a vicious love, From the kisses Of a black asp With constellation eyes. I have been reliving my death. I have been choosing That sweet, frigid venom, An addict dripping poison into my veins. But I am So tired. I am spent And lost And alone. There are bruises on the soft insides of my arms From a habit of worshiping Sharp things. Under my fingernails, Dark soil Evidence of a grave I've overcome Too many times And a struggle I've won At a cost. I am sick of death. Sick of attending funerals for the futures I lose Brutally and unexpectedly. I am sick of being tolerated. I am sick of being Sorry. I want to feel life in me. I want to learn the taste of sunlight And safety. Of forgiveness-- I hear It is sweet as warm honey. (I wouldn't Know) I have gazed.... Oh, I have gazed long, And the void saw me As I saw it. And long after I wished I could look elsewhere I stood, gorgonized, on the edge. Hold my hand. Remind me that I have hands. Spread light In me. Forgive me for my gravity as I lean forward on that hollow breeze that's always calling. Pull me back and keep me Steady. I will never be On solid ground. I will never be easy. I will never be Safe. I am half light and half shadow, Half joy and half pain, Half kindness and half anger. I am a great, twisted tree, With my branches in heaven And my roots In hell. Love that in me, Will you? Will somebody? I am ready To bloom. I am ready To live. I am ready to be exactly What I am.

I have expensive taste, I love leather and satin and innocence, and its willingness to give me things; diamonds clawed from the ground by peasants, miles below oil, and boys that call me beautiful when I so clearly am not. I love jewellery, the gold that binds it's way round my wrist. Asp quietly slithering alongside it - by my arteries, twisting repeatedly, kissing my blood stream, pulse throbbing beneath the long pearly fangs, ready to puncture skin. My addiction is killing me the shiny things, the pyrite, the glittering quartz is all worthless. And terrified of the outcry I flaunt what I have - all fool's gold, all of it. Only for fools that we kiss, you do not love me and so I am foolish.

Bite Me
My body a float, my ships ablaze drifting into the last whisps of haze. I stare into the sun and feel it glare right past me. Wind whips my face, hair adrift in mirk I think back to when that devious smirk sent me away and doomed all of my men... The sand gripped me back, on the beach of my birth twas the first step I took, into the future, inevitable dearth. Doomed from the start but far too blind to see There on her pedestal, she once was my queen this far from the shore, her gaze has no chains on me. twas the hero of yore absent my name, in the lore The villain she made me, the destroyer of homes wasting innocent people, a case of Fomes has tainted my heart and wilted me from the inside Irreparable the damage of that Asp in the sand holding me close, promising her hand and cast me away cast me away cast me away Sickly and venom-ridden, my soul and my mind dreams of the woman who I must soon chide I float in the mirk Apollo wont watch me now I pray to a god, in hopes I catch ear and am given a chance to return from here return from here hand wrapped around spear cast away away from home into parts unknown dying cold in the waters most stranger to me most stranger to me most stranger... Dear gods hear my plee give me one last chance to exact my revenge and pay my way home down straight into hell with her head in my hands Shallow eye-light guiding my way

Spawn of Nemesis
i. Into twlight, Shadow's of monster's, men's piercing sight's As they stareth at mine queen, dog's, hopeful dreamer's, dream's; Tis, cometh to find out these verily aren't men, they were aloviti being's, their breath was poisonous as an asp, teeth as glass. ii. Tis these brute's couldst not be killed by arrow, nor gun's, unless silver and gold were used; They brought a thunderstorm and hail over me and mine beloved's head, they clinched their lip's, their nail's ripped through the roaring of the darkness around instead. iii. Mine Earl Jane Nagley held me closely, as tis these barbarian's were untamed and ghostly; I pulled out mine secret hidden choice, An Aesculapian snake to giveth a bang taste to these to these unholy ale's, I used that silver and gold to cut off their tail's. iv. Whilst the thunderstorm's and hail dissolved into thin air Mine reyna and queen hugged me and screamed, cheerfully; She saidst to me she loved me, tis now she was free, from pain and from anguish, I saved her again from the devil's advantage. ©Brandon Nagley ©Earl jane Nagley dedication ( filipino rose) ©Lonesome poet's poetry

One Mississippi Two Mississippi Three Mississippi I first saw you in the desert Beneath a crescent moon Where the scorpion and asp Fight over dust Stone pillars In the belly of a dune Your face half covered As you ride a white horse Don't come back See no evil It must have been A dream Or at least I awoke to the sound of rain As it fell in the jungle around me In the mist of morning The vines cling and wrap And monkeys barked like dogs The snake coiled on the branch On a log you sit cross-legged Smiling Or maybe You were imagined When I was stranded at sea Having fever dreams on the back Of an orange saftey raft Until the sun burned the skin As the fever climbed Blue cool water beneath me I fall in Letting the cold wake me For a moment From the terrors The clear blue water Sun shining through I saw you below the waves Smiling Turning to kick down into the deep black I followed you Watching your white calves kick Up and down Following you deeper Long after my lungs gave way I descended Until sunlight couldn't reach me And your warm fingers Touched my face In the frigid deep And then You Became everything

Eyes like rubies
My pieces slip out of the hole in my head And they float away always just out of grasp The silence is pulsing; my words are now dead. The soul leaked outward though my blood was not shed And seeped through the ground, a melted moaning rasp My pieces slip out of the hole in my head Since I had not mine, he was the life I led Until the spears he spoke brokened the heart’s clasp The silence is pulsing; my words are now dead. Crumbling lexicon, babbling gibb’rish instead-- Dizzy fall. His glass eyes were widen and gasp My pieces slip out of the hole in my head I run, spilling remnants where, as I (were) tread Haltingly, I faultingly sputter-stutt-spasp The silence is pulsing; my words are now dead. I fall and watch him watch, the glass without dread Once was the soul-spears-scalp-glass-and-ev’ry-asp-- My pieces slip out of the hole in my head The silence is pulsing; my words are now dead. -LP

awkward Silence
XI A Book was writ of late call’d Tetrachordon; And wov’n close, both matter, form and stile; The Subject new: it walk’d the Town a while, Numbring good intellects; now seldom por’d on. Cries the stall-reader, bless us! what a word on A title page is this! and some in file Stand spelling fals, while one might walk to Mile- End Green. Why is it harder Sirs then Gordon, Colkitto, or Macdonnel, or Galasp? Those rugged names to our like mouths grow sleek That would have made Quintilian stare and gasp. Thy age, like ours, O Soul of Sir John Cheek, Hated not Learning wors then Toad or Asp; When thou taught’st Cambridge, and King Edward Greek.
