Smell of cordite, soft
resolution, half whispered:
Slow ash on the wind
Took a break from posting since the solstice, hopefully this should see me back on track

A new calendar is a map of time
Showing you spaces in which you might live
And setting off the seasons and solemnities
The penances and feasts in order just

Beneath pictures of cafes’ in Water Street
Arctic-wind hiking trails in Ikkarumiklua
A pint of Quidi Vidi in The Gut
And Peter Pan’s statue in Bowring Park

Or maybe

Our Lady of Walsingham
Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe
Notre Dame de La Salette

Or some puppies and kittens

And may you find your heart’s desires this year

I am starting afresh, starting new,
not with the many, only with a few.
I left behind what did not grow,
held the door open, asked them to go.

For this year, my head is very clear,
who doesn't uplift you, really ain't your dear.
For this year, my heart is very aligned,
who is not kind, really ain't worth your time.

I always thought it would be you
We would sit on the sofa wrapped in each other's arms as we watched the ball drop
I would feel you lips on mine like the fireworks they always were
Welcoming in a new year
But here I am
Alone once more
Watching movies and writing poems about someone I no longer love
For not the first time in my life I wish soulmates existed
Maybe then I would have been spared
Maybe I would still believe in love
Maybe I would instead be filled with wishes instead of bitterness
Maybe I would still want a New Years Kiss

Another wilted year went by
Hello brings hope for fresh blossoms
Weeds overgrown of yesteryear brought pain
Comfort is yearning that 2019 blasts off
On a garden of angels
Devils you be mute
Voices of evil you be lost
Find me my angels waking me up
Down wind of the albatross' wrath
Hoping angels wing now take flight on this New Year Eve
Dawn's a be a new year, a new light
Heavy are my steps as I knock on the
door

If a person sees themselves in the same boat I am in, 2018 Titanic like, the hope is that the tip of the iceberg has passed and that the future has wins and winds in our sails. I wish everyone at HP the very best in the coming year.
