Even when I thought I knew you
You were being fake
Just like everyone else in this world
You were putting on a face

The charade is over
And the mask comes off
Revealing a face so putrid
And covered in rot
Void May 2020
The way I was raised:
You can't think for yourself
You must dress the way I want you to
You must act the way I want you to
You musn't say this
You can never do that

The list goes on...

So here I am

I'm free now

And I still don't know who I am
When I look in the mirror
Come here kids and listen
We're gonna play a game
It's just like tag, a little
And Covid is it's name

The whole wide world is playing
It's a simple game to play
Everyone has cooties
The idea is stay away

The game has no time limit
It may last a month or more
You can win it if you listen
That's what this poem is for

You don't want the cooties
You don't want to be it
The idea is keep your distance
This game may take a bit

One way to block the cooties
From getting in your space
Wash your hands like we do
And do not touch your face

You don't know who has cooties
Who is it and who is not
So, stay close like we tell you
And then you won't get caught

This game is really something
I'll tell you when it's done
Just follow my instructions
And we'll keep on having fun

So, one, two, three...we're playing
Don't let the cooties in your space
Wash your hands like I do
And do not touch your face
how to explain the Covid-19 to little kids without scaring them
I’m looking for your face in the crowd
It always seems like I saw you
I cherish the memories and my dreams
The only things left me by you.

I follow your voice inside my head
It judges, it laughs, it whispers
The things I forgave
But need to forget
In order to take my life back
From you.

He looked better in a mask than I did without.
‘The World Health Organization (WHO) is considering changing its guidance on whether people should wear face masks in public, prompted by new evidence that suggests doing so could help contain the pandemic.’
- Hannah Devlin and Denis Campbell

Looking through my drafts I found this micro - an unusable remnant from a longer piece about keeping up appearances. A word written without a second thought to connote pretence or disguise, now gives me reason to pause. To mask, or not to mask, that is the question. :§

The outline of your body my favorite shape
Yearning to feel lips touch my necks nape
I had danced before
Never standing still
Around you atoms tango with an unsurpassable thrill
Your words are melodies spoken with ease
Cells waltzing with eachother doing what they please
And let me take a moment
Explain how I feel
Sound of your laughter tingles like an electric eel
The rain and clouds do not feel still like bad weather
Sun shining in hearts as long as we're together
To life you have brought enlightenment and love
Souls seem to fit together better than a glove
All woes from the past depart when you're near
When you leave they take some time to reappear
I rise in the morning without seeing your face
There is nothing I hate more than the space
This must be fate
Destiny
Our lost souls meant to be
I know it was no coincidence we met

your eyes had always guided me.
unconsciously, I follow that beady sight.
they allow me to see,
the purest of the night.

your lips had always guide my move
unknowingly, I obey your delicate brim.
they allow me to prove
that this world is not so grim.

thus, I shall always seek
that face of yours so I'll be guided.
without you, I surely will be weak.
however, our world now is divided.

Stay With Me Tonight
by Michael R. Burch

Stay with me tonight;
be gentle with me as the leaves are gentle
falling to the earth.
And whisper, O my love,
how that every bright thing, though scattered afar,
retains yet its worth.

Stay with me tonight;
be as a petal long-awaited blooming in my hand.
Lift your face to mine
and touch me with your lips
till I feel the warm benevolence of your breath’s
heady fragrance like wine.

That which we had
when pale and waning as the dying moon at dawn,
outshone the sun.
And so lead me back tonight
through bright waterfalls of light
to where we shine as one.

When I ran into you,
Your face was cold, covered with a mask,
Yet your eyes were so warm and welcoming,
Sending me a thousand heartfelt greetings!

You were physically distanced from me,
Yet your heart, your love was running in my direction,
So close I could feel it!

Your hands were hidden under gloves,
Yet your soul was radiating on me with such warmth!
