Math
Chara-Ruth Ward Aug 2016
Problems, Problems everywhere.
Equations, Expressions it’s so unfair!
From x to y from y to x,
You never know what comes next!
Until it leaves you with one desire.
Math, I hope you die in a fire.

Well, I don’t actually feel that way.
In fact, Math is kinda ok.
Although Math sometimes can be disturbing,
a world without it would be quite unnerving.

Black and White
Chara-Ruth Ward Aug 2016
I don’t see black and white.
I don’t understand why people fight,
For a freedom they have already received.
Is it just how they have perceived,
The world around them.
My attitude sometimes astounds them.
‘Black Lives Matter’ yes, they do,
But that already’s been taken care of, for me and you.

I don’t see black and white.
While people put on mental shackles like it’s their birthright.
“I can do this because he’s racist.”
When you really don’t understand just where your place is.
Inside yourself you want to reach for the stars.
But your state of mind keeps you where you are.
I know racism is still apart of our problems,
But stop being negative and figure out how to solve them.

The Mask
Chara-Ruth Ward Sep 2016
The thing I wear when I’m depressed.
The thing I wear under stress.
When I’m angry I go to the mask’s caress.
I cradle my emotions in a nest.
Only to later have them thrown off my chest.
But still I go back to the mask’s concealing crest.

The mask’s magic is deceiving
It convinces me that hiding my emotions brings healing.
But listen now, listen don’t wait!
If wear the mask you will have it’s fate.
Sooner or Later and don’t forget,
The mask will make you do something you’ll regret.

The Struggle
Chara-Ruth Ward Jan 2017
The unexplainable, bubbling sensation,
Of staring at a blank doc searching.
They call it young writer’s frustration
But I call it creativity yearning,
For answers that can’t be found.
The longer I look the harder it gets.
Isn’t it profound,
The more I see the more I forget.
That I’m a writer with skill,
With the pen as my powerful weapon.
Yet I lack the will,
To get the last two lines of this poem done.
Rest in piece last lines that never got written

The Color Red
Chara-Ruth Ward Sep 2016
What is it that makes you stand out from the others,
What makes you come before your brothers.
Yellow, green and Blue,
Seem like nothing compared to you.
You tell me when to stop and where to exit.
I use you to highlight things so I don’t forget them.
My school colors are your crimson.
Your color makes my backpack glisten.
How would I live if you were taken away!
No more Red Delicious apples or Red paint!
The world would be bland if you went missing.
So for you to never leave is what I’m wishing.

Do, Don't
Chara-Ruth Ward Sep 2016
Do think before you act,
Don’t let your actions negatively affect others thoughts.
Do believe the world can be a better place,
Don’t be pessimistic.
Do keep your word.
Don’t make your words hurt other people.
Do help others.
Don’t make the person you helped feel like they owe you something.
Do try and better yourself.
Don’t beat yourself up.
Do try your hardest,
Don’t overwork yourself.
Do listen to good advice.
Don’t let that good advice not be put into action.

The Speech
Chara-Ruth Ward Aug 2016
Hands shaking
    Voice stuttering
         Stage Fright
            Can’t focus
              Then silence

                                                           It’s all over now.

Maybe, Just Maybe
Chara-Ruth Ward Jun 2017
Maybe, just Maybe I never kept conversation
Cause I couldn’t find words.
Maybe, Just Maybe I left
Cause being there hurt.
Maybe, just Maybe I was never angry,
Just disappointed.
Maybe, just maybe I didn’t deserve your friendship
But I was appointed.
Maybe, Just Maybe I wanted to say sorry
But I couldn’t let myself
Maybe, Just Maybe I was ready to
But then you left
Maybe, Just Maybe I regret my words
Not finding better things to say
But I know for certain that I'll miss you
Now that you’re on your way

Feelings
Chara-Ruth Ward Aug 2016
Bright as day, dark as night.
Out in the open, hidden from sight.
Some will flow, some you will fight,
but sooner or later they’ll come to the light.

Sometimes joy, sometimes disgust.
Sometimes fear, betrayal, distrust.
Sometimes passive, sometimes fuming.
Sometime you don’t know which ones are blooming.
But they are there, it’s clear to see.
Feelings are: a mystery.

Isolation
Chara-Ruth Ward Aug 2017
Isolation feels like a cold word,
Maybe that’s why stand here alone
in my frigid iceberg
A prison far worse than
Albatross could ever be
A place where there is every type of lock
But not a single key
Permafrost bars cage
A person so frozen
Yet blazing with rage
I am surrounded by people
But they are only reminders
That my stay is not peaceful

Isolation is a disease,
But everyone but the person infected
Dies away.
A virus that is perfected
It targets not the physical
But the mental state
Sanity dropping at critical rate
It really is parasitical!

Isolation is a cold-hearted sickness,
But there is warmth and a cure.
Permafrost can be melted
And diseases endured.
Find your fire
And burn through those bars
Because once you find who melts the iceberg
You find who you really are.

Silence
Chara-Ruth Ward Aug 2016
So fragile any sound breaks it,
Sometimes awkward give or take it.
Sometimes gives peace or concentration.
Sometimes needed for contemplation.
Sometimes treatment if you did something bad,
Or when someone catches you doing something you shouldn’t have.
Maybe silence’s composition,
Has way more than just one definition.

Summer!!
Chara-Ruth Ward May 2017
it’s here,
the place of rest
the paradise and relief
from homework and stress
no piles of paper full of numbers
I detest
you can’t test
me anymore
even though this me at my best
well, more or less
forget the method of guess and check
cause I’m checking off the word vacation
can’t fight the sensation
of peace
here’s a piece
of advice
don’t let the sun come up
and you’re not smiling
cause it’s only three months
before sheet piling.
don’t waste time deciding
the world’s inviting
you to take a chance
start those lessons in dance
then salsa over to
the capital of France
break a baguette with romance
go on and advance
take the gift
cause you only have 88 days
to make a difference
im back^_^ be expecting more cause it's summer!!!

The Heart
Chara-Ruth Ward Aug 2016
Always beating incandescently,
Only the size of my fist.
How can it be!
That an ***** so small,
Can have such a big effect on me!
The only ***** that’s in three realms.
Emotionally, Physically, and Spiritually!
An ***** so small with so much power.
Yet you have the power,
To take it away.

Failure
Chara-Ruth Ward Aug 2016
Sadness overtakes you,
But that isn’t the thing that breaks you.
It’s the disappointment that fills the space.
In your heart called disgrace.
Victory was in your hands, but it slipped.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick.
But with loss comes opportunity.
Another way to help the community.

Words
Chara-Ruth Ward Aug 2016
You can’t see them but they pierce the heart
Can’t be touched but can tear you apart.
When spoken softly can bring healing.
Other times not so appealing.
Can be used as a greeting,
To whomever that you’re meeting.
Some make you smile,
Or laugh for a while.

Isn’t it strange a weapon and a medkit!
Apart of me, apart of you so never forget this!
The power of your tongue is like no other.
So only use it to affirm one another.

The Lie
Chara-Ruth Ward Aug 2016
She came home from school
with a forced smile on her face.
How could i tell her She thought,
In utter disgrace.
Mom came in with a hearty smile.
She said “how was school?”
As she sat on the stool.
“Was it worth the while?”

She wanted to tell her
and her heart was pounding
She wanted to show her
That her day was anything but astounding.
But she didn’t want her to worry.
Because she was so busy.
So she held in her injury,
even though it made her dizzy.
“School was fine.”
And that’s how it ended.
Because she had no spine
And left important things unattended.

Laughter
Chara-Ruth Ward Aug 2016
The joy that bubbles inside you.
A slow grin that finally finds you.
And when the sound finally comes.
You can’t stop until you’re done.
Sometimes it will be a short burst,
Sometimes it will be until it hurts.
No matter what that short eruption of joy is good.
Though sometimes is not understood.
