The professor said
"Family therapy is like a Pie Graph
Everyone in the family contributes their own piece of pie.
When people leave
there's a chunk of pie missing
and the other members of the family
have to take on some of those roles to fill the pie."

Here's my theory:
Everyone in the family has their own whole pie.
Categorizes each housemate as a piece of it.
how they view them in their family.
how they relate to them,

Imagine a home
Mom and her four daughters.
Step dad, his daughter and son.
imagine three bedrooms.
The adults taking up one of them.

let's look at the Mother,
Her four daughters
all with different fathers
she knows how to raise children.

The daughters all know how to
Be
Children, be
Sisters, be
older or younger than each other.
The step-father knows how to have
A Wife,
One Daughter,
A Son.

Well Step-brother leaves the house.

Susie has a child at fifteen.
what does
her pie look like now?

She used to have a boyfriend,
four sisters,
a mother, father.
Now lost a brother
gained a baby.
She only knows how to be a child.

let's look at the mother.
She hasn't learned: Grandchild
but she knows how to raise a baby.

lets look at the step-father, lost his son, gained four daughters,
what's another one?

The sisters, lost their brother, a role model.
Exchanged for this this new baby.
another sister?

everyone's pie is empty in some parts.
judging by some other
dead white guys theory
when who you are doesn't line up
with who you see yourself as,
that's when people develop
Mental illness

Well I wouldn't call it ill, but let's count the bruises.
That baby is going to grow up as her mother's sister.
Suzie is going to seek the comfort of men.
Her sisters are going to constantly fight between calling themselves auntie
and Big Sis.
like tossing themselves on either side of the barbed wire fence is cause for death.

The farther we go back in each family member's backstory
the more slivers of pie we find
Georgia has autism,
Carley diagnosed depression,
Rosie an abusive relationship of 10 years.
Clover is quiet.
The Brother, schizophrenic, autistic, bipolar.
Any number of names they can slap on him.
He doesn't live there anyhow.
isn't human.

Muffle the sister that says she miss him.
hit her, cut her, lock her up.

This was a case study.
I lived with this family for four years.
unintentionally filled up parts of their pie.
I was Son.
Older brother.
Boyfriend.
Father.

When I stopped being a fly on the wall
Stopped seeing how their story was developing.

I didn't have any pie left.

I can feel you in my body
And I can't tell if it's just worry
But I, know that if I could hold your hands in mine
I'll love you for all time, I'd love you cause you're mine
I can feel you in my stomach
I'm sick to death cause of how much this hurts
And I, know that I have to give you up
But I'll keep you on my mind, I'd keep you in my mind
This may just be me being crazy
And trying to keep a piece of him
You may not even exist beyond my dreams
But I can feel you weighing underneath my skin
I hope to god when I'm older
I can spread a part of myself to the world
But it just isn't my time now
I hope you understand that there's just too much **** to hold.
A letter from you to me.
I never opened it.
I just sat wishing you'd just send a post card so I could see it for what it was.
I didn't want to rip the seem that your lips and tongue once danced across.
Because there would be another delivery soon.

The White Whale

She swam the gauntlet
Six times, seven
Then took a chance on love
And was rewarded
Far beyond her hopes and dreams

But now this eighth trip south
Much harder than before
And she so weary
Overburdened
Unesteemed

Then it went wrong
The water
Kind no longer
Tainted and impure
Took first her child
And then, no longer caring, she

When soon she came to rest
Among the rocks
Almost as if to say
You’ve cared not for my ocean home -
Now you must deal with me.
When I started college, I majored in marine biology, and my primary interests then, as now, were whales and sharks.

This poem, written on 6Feb99, was about a pregnant female California grey whale, Eschrichtius robustus, which had died at sea and washed ashore on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, in southernmost Los Angles County.  Although in life grey whales are dark to light grey, depending upon age and the amount of barnacles and sea lice encrustations on their skin, after death the outer skin sloughs off, revealing the blubber layer beneath, making the whale appear white to the casual observer.

Local residents were appalled by the stench, as whales' bodies are designed to retain heat and thus decompose rapidly, while biologists agreed that a spike in local bacterial levels in near-shore waters most likely contributed to the death of the whale and her calf.

My favorite scientific name for the grey whale, which I would like to see become California's state animal, is the obsolete Rhachianectes glaucus, which translates literally to "grey swimmer along rocky shores."  I can't think of a better description of these magnificent and loving animals.

I am pregnant with a love
That will never see the day.

At night, she trembled in pleasure
He's deeper into the woods
Without any word
Spring gushed

3months after
Her belly grew
The creature inside her
was escaped by an entity

No one knew who
No one knew what
Her tummy flattened

He went deep into the woods
Again to give life
Spring gushes

3months after
Her belly grew
The creature inside her
was escaped by an entity

Again

He never got tired going into the woods
To give life again and again
A life he eats
To gain power.
I was inspired by a story I had read back then.  They made baby and a "miscarriage" occurs.  Neighbors believed that it was some type of ghoul.  The couple never got tired of trying for baby only to get another miscarriage.  Turns out the husband eats the fetus.

If one day in the imaginary ideal future,
We get stuck by the rocky Konkan beach,
And not even a decent sand bed is there,
To you for resting my body I shall offer.

Waiting for the tourist bus back we talk,
Tired we are from taking the sunny walk,
The evening the sun we wish will balk,
Our neo-natal plans together we chalk.

We shall sit on the bench by the beach,
You'll then rest your head on my side,
In comforting you I will bear much pride,
About being one forever we did decide.

Then you will soon sleep in the evening,
I will watch our hands and even the ring,
Angel on my shoulder you'll be sleeping,
And me??? Oh, I'll just be calmly smiling.

The baby bump is now visible so happily,
I'll think of unique names for the baby,
Basis of our relationship is really lovely,
The healthy baby will be so very chubby.
The most cherished dream of mine in which I visualize myself and my ultimate lover.

Rolling boulders ripping through the sky.
Beneath, with bated breath I lie.
Mother nature's pregnant swell, showing.
One final crack of the whip, glowing.
The quenching droplets rapidly flowing.
Birth of new life long awaited.
Earth's crippling thirst satiated.

Here you lay, a baby on the way and a suitcase at the door. It wasn't the results he hoped for. The next 9 months you board a baby inside you. Doctors appointments, dentist appointments, hospital stays, the story goes on. The first sonogram, the baby looks like its father. The son he dreamed for one day. While on the screen I said to him I was sorry. I said I was sorry because he came a year to soon and because of that his father left us. I felt heaviness in my heart for us, but I know I must go on for now I have great Responsibility's ahead of me. I wish he could see how beautiful you are.
Having been through this I know the pain and the feelings this brings. I had to find strength I didn't know I had to pull through each coming day. I made it.
