Open your eyes
so that I may show you my world

Open your ears
so that I may whisper my wisdom

Open your mind
so that I may fill it with my wonder

Open your heart
so that I may show you my love.

Open your hand
take mine with it
and gaze upon the wonders of this world
with me.

Smell this.
There is a great stench among us.
It's stinking up society
And the justice system.
It's ruining a nation's deepest beliefs.
It's spoiling the achievement of a next generation.
It's pungent.

Taste this.
Even I can taste it on my tongue,
But I'm too much of a lover
To let it part from my thoughts.
It's meat rotting, turning to maggots.
It's poison festering deep in the core of man
And dispersing through his pores.

Hear this.
The wailing of a mother
As she cries for the life of her son.
The same yell screamed by
The crowned young ******
As she watched our Savior be nailed to a cross.
It's screeching.

See this.
A child.
A child slain
In the unjust ways of society.
A child bleeding life
Onto a cold, heartless ground.
A child. A child
Dying in broad daylight.
A child's smile,
Once brighter than a million suns
Going dark. Burning out.
It's flame, once ablaze,
Tiptoeing dimmer into darkness.

Feel this!
Warm blood.
Hot bullet.
Cold hearted.
Allow your fingers to tremble
Across the badge
That's rough around the edges.
That's connected to your assassin.
Feel the victim's hope disintegrate
With his breath.
Feel his mother's heartache.
Feel God's disappointment.

Sense this.
Sense innocence.
Sense wrongness.
Sense injustice.
But can you truly sense
The senseless
Of the situation?

There's a ringing, ringing in my ears,
You can't hear it, the people don't hear it.
I draw rings, the ringing in my ears.
Dark circles appear under my eyes;
I am so tired from doing nothing.
The lights flash and we don't blink,
Forces clash and we don't blink.
I can't hear what you're not saying,
What you're not praying, proclaiming,
For there's a ringing within my ears.
It drowns out the stars,
It drowns out all fright for
I am so tired from doing nothing.
Peace and retreat drive me mad;
Retreat is not peace, it is pieces.
There's a ringing, ringing in my ears,
You can't hear it, the people don't hear it...
Yet another example of how I don't pay attention during lectures.
...I'm tired of the seemingly unanimous refusal to fight.

I'm tired of talking about marriage, on a completely unrelated note.

Here's what I've been saving,
here's just a little taste.
I've wanted to say it,
so here it goes; I like your face.

I don't just mean "your face",
'cause I like the other parts too!
Together, I find them much better,
because together they make you.

And let's face it,
I like you more with eyes and ears and toes.
But what I love, perhaps most of all
is the tip of your stout little nose.

Now don't get me wrong,
I'd love you even with no bells or whistles.
Yet when you look at me with those eyes,
you make my heart race; blood sizzle.

I don't think I've gotten across
quite what I've wanted to say.
But maybe it just wasn't meant to be,
maybe it's for another day.

I hide behind my hair
apparently it makes me shy

I love to play with his ears
apparently it turns him on

I have a habit of vanishing and reappearing
apparently it freaks people out

I like to pretend I'm invisible
apparently it's sort of true
Boop.
There are words inside
Trying to be silent here—
Sneaking past my lips,
They make themselves known loudly,
Reddening my cheeks and ears.
The rhythm hits me first,
Off-beat, syncopated, unpredictable,
Yet I find my foot tapping in perfect time,
My body synchronised with an ever-changing pulse.

Then the bass,
Driving, moving forward, eager,
I find my legs moving with it,
My body pulled by a promise of more.

Then the chords,
Dissonant, unresolved, uncertain,
Yet my ears enjoy every one,
My body desperate to understand the logic behind them.

Then the melody,
Haunting, minor, hesitant,
Yet my eyes are drawn to those that sing,
My body overwhelmed with bare emotion.

Then the lyrics,
Hopeful, free, safe,
And I find myself singing along,
To a song I didn't know, but that resonates in my heart.
