Zoe Mae Dec 2021
Rub elbows with the Moon
Run free as weeds in October
Race to what makes your heart bloom
Rise from the ash, and simply fly over
Zoe Mae Sep 2021
Off I go on a road trip to nowhere
I won't send postcards to people who won't care
My best friend's gonna be a wise-*** brown bear
Yeah, I'm racing down a melting path to nowhere
Zoe Mae Jul 2021
How'd you know my head has space for rent?
Is it that obvious I walk around vacant?
Were you looking for one hemisphere or two?
Cuz you if you intend to take both, not sure what I'd do
I didn't ask for your inquiry
but do yourself a favor
This place is a dump
and you won't like your neighbor
Zoe Mae Sep 2021
These roses are dead
I guess we are too
Turns out I'm just meat
Therefore so are you
Zoe Mae Sep 2021
For you my heart blooms
A mere glance makes it quiver
Petals everywhere
Zoe Mae Jul 2021
But I don't feel happy
And I don't have any hope
I can't find inspiration
Instead I just mope
I won't allow in a spirit
Long ago sold my soul
My ears just won't hear it
My brain's gate is closed
I've been 12 and 100 since the day I was born
Too young to appreciate breath
And too old to mourn
I want to run away
I need some new air
But wherever I go
I'm already there
Zoe Mae Sep 2021
I can't cure each word
Soak them in sorted light
Wait patiently for them to take flight
Some burst out too soon
Like runaway balloons
Those are the best words to write
Zoe Mae Sep 2021
She aimed for the stars
But was seduced by Saturn
No one's seen her since
Zoe Mae Sep 2021
Let's race up that hill
Let's run up that building
I swear if we stay still
We may as well stop living
Sad
Zoe Mae Aug 2021
Sad
I always feel sad
Sometimes I pretend I don't
So others feel good
Zoe Mae Jul 2021
Blades of grass add up
Planes and pastures stretch for miles
Giraffes graze the sky
Daily haiku challenge
Zoe Mae Aug 2021
It's true I don't believe in God
Can't say I ever did
It's something that I never questioned, even as a kid
But Santa Claus, now he is real
or at least he used to be
I don't miss God, but I miss the guy who left presents under the tree
Zoe Mae Nov 2018
You know you don't belong anywhere
when
in a vat of misfit stew you find you're
the only one clinging to the
spoon
Zoe Mae Sep 2021
Not only do scars remind me of what I've done
They also remind me of what I've become
With age came the wisdom to put the knives down
At least while I'm drunk and running around
Nowadays my scars collect on the inside
Solid tissue grows where my heart once thrived
The doctors are shocked I'm still alive
Quite frankly so am I
Zoe Mae Jan 2019
When I don't answer
There is no question
When I say nothing
Nothing was said
When I'm at ease
There is no tension
When I don't bleed
I can't see red
Zoe Mae Sep 2021
It seems most poets are inspired by nature
I'm mostly inspired by the nature of me
It is commonly sadness and anger
that fuel my poetry
Zoe Mae Aug 2021
Writing is like painting a portrait

of what makes this vessel me

And then forcing it on display

for nobody to see
Zoe Mae Nov 2018
You say more with your tone than your

tongue

But it's your silence that I hear the

most

When we touch I can feel you go

numb

How are you so far away yet so

close
Zoe Mae Nov 2021
Don't mix *** with poetry
as similar as they may be
Within the folds of satin words
are ******* phrases best not heard
So be careful because just one chapter
Could close the book forever after
Zoe Mae Aug 2021
Stars load up the sky
Orion's belt fits too tight
He kicks a few out
Zoe Mae Jan 2022
It's snowing sideways
Let's play horizontal too
Love that side of you
Zoe Mae Jan 2019
I'm dying to live
Yet living to die
Like broth through a sieve
The undoing of I
Zoe Mae Sep 2021
The one who says nothing
owns the room
It's silence that makes the loudest
boom
Zoe Mae Sep 2021
We could fall in love
Then get drunk under the stars
Sipping on moonlight
Zoe Mae Oct 2021
A Scarecrow awakes
To an angry pumpkin sun
The field's overun
Zoe Mae Jan 2018
I wish you'd go away
I'm tired of your voice
I hear it night and day
As though I have no choice
It's been over a year
Since I last saw your face
You looked just like a deer
But I was froze in place
I'm sure you've since moved on
While I dribble out this trite
And my voice is long gone
Like a black cat in the night
Zoe Mae Aug 2021
I'm so hungry
I'm so high
Eyes are blurry
I know why
Should I worry
Or deny
That we just hurry
Till we die
Zoe Mae Aug 2021
Velcro does not work
Scotch tape doesn't either
I've drowned my sorrows
in ashes and ether
In life people come and go
at their leisure
Ask how you are, hope you're well
They mean neither
Zoe Mae Nov 2021
They said looks don't matter
but they lied
No one cares how ugly you are
on the inside
So be certain your scars
will easily hide
Then choke down the razors
and smile wide
Zoe Mae Aug 2021
Not sure if you're hungry, but
here's every word you just said

I will spoon-feed you each profanity as you lay in your bed

Let them set your bloodstream ablaze and go straight to your head

You can eat my words too because I'm overfed
Zoe Mae Jul 2021
Salmon swim upstream
Instinct drives them to create
Knowing death awaits
My daily haiku challenge.
Zoe Mae Dec 2018
A spotlight follows
Wherever I go
But It darkens my path
Instead of making it glow
Zoe Mae Jul 2021
I followed the staircase
all the way down
Somehow forgetting
I could just turn around
Zoe Mae Aug 2021
We look for guidance

From a sky born of chaos

Stars think we're insane
Zoe Mae Feb 2022
The Moon has had her fill this night
Her belly swollen with stolen light
Seems as though she's swallowed the Sun
Her descent into madness merely begun
Now we have neither night nor day
Just a never-ending melancholy cycle of gray
Zoe Mae Sep 2021
The birds have all left
Oh how I wish I were one
Live to chase the sun
Zoe Mae Aug 2021
The sun takes her place
Nature's actors prep their lines
Songs ring out showtime
Since I ******* up my original morning haiku, had to write another.
Zoe Mae Aug 2021
The sun calls in sick
Clouds rush to cover her shift
No sunshine today
Zoe Mae Oct 2021
What's the rush my dear?
Hold me while I do dishes.
Whisper in my ear
Zoe Mae Jan 2018
So we find ourselves here again
Lost for words and looking in
Never quite knowing our place
Not recognizing our own face

I see the razor on the glass
I don't even have to ask
Do you think that it will numb the pain
Or maybe somewhat ease the strain

They placed the apple on your head
Sure their aim had seen better days
Yeah we'll be happy once we're dead
But still it could take years...

Is this where we thought we'd be?
Hating you and loathing me
I see the needle on the floor
I don't question anymore

I wish I could have known my fate
Way before it was too late
Not sure I'd done a thing to change
Seems our lives were pre-arranged

They placed the apple on your head
Sure their aim had seen better days
They'll make us famous once we're dead
But still it could take years...
Wrote this when I was an active addict. No one likes it but it's one of my favorites. Most of my poems are songs.
Zoe Mae Aug 2021
My motto is keep writing
but I forget to read
Which takes away from others
what I also need
So thanks for taking time
I may not have taken for you
I promise to be more thoughtful
and at least enjoy the view
Zoe Mae Jul 2021
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seems no matter what I write, it doesn't matter to anyone.
Zoe Mae Nov 2020
I've never hated somebody
I love so much.
I've never loved somebody
I hate so much
That's you
Zoe Mae Jan 2018
To the child I'll never know
I wish I could've watched you grow
And maybe I'd have grown myself
Maybe finally got some help
What should feel like a blessing
I can't keep from second-guessing
And the voices in my head
Have filled my heart and soul with dread
There are so many what-ifs
I can't promise life's a gift
I'm sorry I was not prepared
And instead I was plain scared
You'll never run or laugh or play
You'll never live to see one day
And as awful as it seems
You were only just a dream
Cuz what my mother couldn't do
Is what I'm going to do for you...
To the child I never knew
Zoe Mae Aug 2021
God you're a dolt
You just blather on about stuff you know nothing about
Think you're the boss, when you're really a tool
Convinced you're a genius, but the world knows you're a fool
You preach from the sewers and think you're supreme
But you're truly just a narcissist who's insecure and mean
So happy you're gone
Hopefully we're not as dumb as before
Cuz I'm pretty certain we'll be seeing you in 2024
Zoe Mae Jan 2022
Purple skies
Crystal earth
This place smells like fresh dug dirt
A shallow pond stuck to dead oak leaves
Tracks that lead to deer ****
Muddy prints from a beat up bear
A nut hatch pirouettes on air
Rotting trunks offer homes to beetles
Who'll dine on entrails served with needles
A human footprint deep in the snow
They wear size 10 and are missing a toe
And where'd their other foot happen to go
The forest never tells
Zoe Mae Jul 2021
Cranberries leaves and walnuts all mixed together
With a crumbly cheese that tastes like leather
Here's a tin can
Maybe that will taste better
The way you jump on that roof
Makes you seem almost aloof
I'd trade places with you, I say
But it's my 40th birthday
Maybe tomorrow...
Zoe Mae Dec 2021
Born beautiful, dies the same
She's too free to be bound by the shackles of time
She follows the sunshine
She's too ambiguous to have a name
And she'll certainly never ask for mine
****! There she goes with the wind
Leaving me with nothing but a melancholy grin
Zoe Mae Aug 2021
The Earth is scarred
Branded
by our constant digging
The moon likens her blemishes to cheap tattoos, but he'd never tell her so
She's still spectacular, even swathed in gray
We may have robbed her of her innocence, but she's still the jewel of the Milky Way
Offensive and beautiful
Zoe Mae Jul 2021
He wanted to be accepted
By those he had rejected
Thought the poppers would feel blessed
If allowed just one day of rest
Thought they'd savor the King's scraps
Even if it meant scrounging around like rats
Thought they'd never dare complain
For even one day of his reign
Wasn't the King surprised
To see the commoners got wise
They stormed the castle through
And found him hiding in a shoe
Everyone laughed, what a tiny little thing!
Who knew you'd have to be a mouse to be bigger than the King
