Infidelity
Samantha Lee Jul 2023
A late night vice
in a small little place

The corruption of
a warm embrace

When existence is just
but being unsound

Obscurity keeps us
from being found

Nameless
Samantha Lee Mar 2017
To all of the nameless...
faces in the crowd at an event
your unity is endearing
it's currency and time you have spent

To all of the nameless...
wanderers sleeping outside in the cold
your fight to survive is empowering
spirit the only thing that remains unsold

To all of the nameless...
users who've surpassed last call
your denial is where the battle begins
a war cry against substance and ethanol

To all of the nameless...
children who lack a daily feast
your hunger no fault of your own
basic human rights have been breached

And to all of the nameless...
believers giving life to cause
your actions are restorative
but we must hold off on applause

When people are united &
hunger and struggle still exist
efforts must be given
until the problems are fixed

Happiness
Samantha Lee Mar 2017
Simple joys we owe to ourselves
a debt not always so easily paid
people will try to pay this debt for you
but it's not a currency so easily made
it's when a melody grabs you by the shoulders
and twirls you around
when you find the answer to a question
you thought might never be found
that feeling you get when you see
your favorite shade of blue
truly, this debt lives inside of you

Cliches
Samantha Lee Mar 2017
They talk about those cliches
the "one who got away"
he ripped off his chains,
and threw them down
while planning his escape
the moat, it was guarded
the barriers had been built,
the castle walls
too high to climb,
compact with sand and silt
this is what seems to happen
when an escape is poorly planned
they often end up
stripped of skin
and buried
in the sand
This is what comes out when your heart is broken and you are four books deep into Game of Thrones

The Painting
Samantha Lee Mar 2017
The glowing halo of an orb
painted in the sky
created with a mystic message
delicately placed between each line
the secret refuge of a whitewashed dream
mystery cloaked within
brush strokes actualize desire
and the shadows of a moonlit gleam

Ouch.
Samantha Lee Mar 2017
Her feet remain
planted in pain
roots torn
placed deep within
a depression
in the soil
dug quick
without concern
covered in mud
watered by tears
her roots
become one
with the earth
as soil
eases her fears

Go
Samantha Lee Mar 2017
Go
I'll be that person
to push you away
if what you want is to go
I could not ask you to stay
always looking to grow
what you need is your own
time to refill your heart
with all the love you have shown
knowledge of self is important
to know and to be
you cannot climb the latter
if the first you cannot see

Caffeine
Samantha Lee Mar 2017
The smell of passion
rolls off him in waves
gently covering her pillows
a morning scent she craves
like coffee on Sunday morning
may be not necessity
an aroma floating bold
comfort brewing in immensity
arousal of the senses
stimulation of the mind
delectable and refreshing
a pleasure so refined

I love you
Samantha Lee Mar 2017
It takes all the strength I have
standing, my back
barricading the door
doing all I can
to hold it shut
the weight of the words
on the other side
tied neck and neck
with personal force
perseverance
a clear and equal match
to the muscles of courage

Steps
Samantha Lee Mar 2017
Heel to toe, a step forward
toe to heel, a step back
twisted, frayed, pulling baggage
a rope requires slack
the binding snaps
as the cold wind does blow
a chilling reminder
we must heal to tow

Let us try
Samantha Lee Mar 2017
The basics of trying
a simple attempt
to lighten a burden
deal with what life has sent
may it be lifting a heavy load
in the calm of a storm
or putting out metaphorical fires
in the life you are born
to try is a gift
one gives to the world
the basis of knowledge
to experience what is hurled

rhythms&dances
Samantha Lee Mar 2017
They say, "dance to the beat of your own drum",
but I'd rather dance
to the rhythm of your heart
my drum can only thud so long
as the steady beat of you
presses on

The Juggler
Samantha Lee Mar 2017
The act of a juggler
goes 3 at a time
this time it's hearts
his, hers, and mine
a moment of weakness
distraction ensues
tiny cracks appear
as one falls to his shoes
the next time by chance
which one will fall?
it's certain with time
there will be breaks in them all

Butterflies
Samantha Lee Mar 2017
Quick thoughts
the stem of worry
planted in
uncertain soil
leaves of growth
in no hurry
sprouting vines
start to coil
as buds blossom
a certain sweat
settlement hosed
watered roots wet
sunshine dances
photosynthesis fuels
where butterflies
are imposed

The First Time
Samantha Lee Feb 2017
From a low angle
looking up to brown eyes
face so serious
weakness actualized
strong playful hands
keep pushing inside
a light moan escapes
pleasure implied
sweat begins to merge
a pooling sea of thirst
consuming each other
satisfaction immersed

And so we begin...
Samantha Lee Feb 2017
Maybe you knew
when my legs casually
became drawn to you
like a magnet, rapidly
pulling me close
maybe you knew
when my eyes brought sparkle forth
like that star in the sky
that lead history north
or maybe you knew
when you held me tight
heartbeats turn to percussion
rhythms meant to reunite

The Shelter of Ambition
Samantha Lee Feb 2017
Tell me where the hope lives-
in a house built with desire
set upon a foundation of goals
pathways assembled to transpire
as the seasons fade to shades
changing landscape to perfect
stimulation of achievement
optimism to collect
like a pile of leaves in fall
waiting for its time
ignited by a flame
playing victim to a crime
hoping in last moments
perseverance a bigger role
the hope lives in theory
as a fire warms the soul

Anatomy
Samantha Lee Feb 2017
The anatomy of a wish
an embryo of a dream
a cardiovascular increase
as it sails the bloodstream
the nervous system takes hold
and sends shivers down the spine
action to be taken
when muscles and bones combine
lungs fill with air
oxygen finds release
another breath exhaled
as we find inner peace

Fool's gold
Samantha Lee Feb 2017
The petty theft of golden intentions
insufficient gold of a fool
a small crime against you
crime and punishment minuscule
A fire lit within
it is arson of the soul
a mere crime against you
lucky someone is on patrol
Then assault of the mind
hijacked and stolen away
a paltry crime against you
to be locked up another day

Temptation
Samantha Lee Feb 2017
The puzzle of temptation,
some don't heed issue at all.
Surrounded by a gleaming ocean,
indulging is the water's call.
As the waves roll in,
a bright sailor's sky feigns delight,
what is promised tomorrow
by today what is in sight.
Temptation can pull you
to a raged and stormy sea,
it is not until you are in the middle
you realize you are not supposed to be.

But, wine?
Samantha Lee Feb 2017
Purple blotches the sky
patches of evaporated wine
an inked pale surface
reds and blues merge
individuality
an evanescent loss
using each other
they come together
an instinct to combine
a decadent sauce

The Garden
Samantha Lee Feb 2017
The gifts we reap
are directly linked
to all of the promises
we choose to keep
sustaining and growing
not always a chore
the basics of allowing
seeds to soar

The Bridge
Samantha Lee Feb 2017
A bridge created with dried leaves
and an ancient tree,
shaped from a life
of woe is me.
This tree, he wanted something more
convinced his life
was a treacherous bore.
A constant covet of
the other side of the moat,
fearful he'd reach it
in the mutilated form
of a boat.
It was time,
he knew,
when he felt a stormy breeze,
for this was the opportunity
he had to seize.
The gust grew stronger
and with a lightning struck heave
he became the natural bridge
between want and achieve.

The Poem
Samantha Lee Feb 2017
Pointed sounds escape
as the tip of a pen
captures muted agony
thundering onto paper
leaving only humanity to
contemplate the value
of the script
before them

Pillows
Samantha Lee Feb 2017
If pillows could talk,
I'd ask yours for your dreams,
What your nightmares are made of,
When it last silenced your screams.

If pillows could talk,
Do you think ours would be friends?
Bonding to be had
Over the rest they lend.
