READ BETWEEN THE LINES
THERE'S SO MUCH MORE TO LIFE THAN THIS
OPEN UP YOUR EYES
SEE THE COLORS THAT DON'T EXIST

IF YOU CAN MAKE A FIST THEN YOU CAN FIGHT
DEATH WITH APPLAUSE & YOU KNOW ITS RIGHT
CLOUDS FILL THE AIR & I'M LOSING SITE
OF WHATS REALLY REAL & WHATS WRONG OR RIGHT

BROKEN TELEVISION
WITH MY REFLECTION ON THE SCREEN
CLEANSE YOUR INNER VISION
FILL THE SPACES IN BETWEEN

EXPAND REALITY
THEY BLIND FOLD YOU SO YOU CANT SEE
ITS SUCH HYPOCRISY
THEY PUSH IT ALL ON YOU AND ME

IF YOU CAN MAKE A FIST THEN YOU CAN FIGHT
DEATH WITH APPLAUSE & YOU KNOW ITS RIGHT
CLOUDS FILL THE AIR & I'M LOSING SITE
OF WHATS REALLY REAL & WHATS WRONG OR RIGHT

I've never been good at coloring in between the lines.

Because I leave no space in between these lines that are made,

When the blade molests my skin.
Color me silly.
If I am ever anything
I was never to be the man who walks away
Everyone else seem to do so
But I'm the only one left in the line that was on the chopping block
And stayed until the end
I have my pride and my dignity
I think that's the strongest thing
No matter how bad I mess up
I hold my head up high
Trying to coordinate a way to fix the discrepancies that were there
Most people wouldn't care
But I give it my all
I will break this fall
Over and Over again
Don't count me out
Just count me in
I like numbers that penertrate my brain
Like they did before
Don't worry
No more grudges from this heart
Just help given when you've fallen apart
I'm not wasting my time being the same
I'm not doing it for a hot minute of fame
I know what its like to be formerly lame
So I made the cut now
And I'm giving the upcoming ones as much as a chance as the wiser few did when I was young and aimless
They're my motivation now
I hope I can duplicate this notion
Causing so much commotion
That you wake up from your coma
My words should be gradually uplifting, taking it in like meslotheioma
But I heal instead of ravage
Sometimes I get a hit savage
Only when I'm fed up with someone overstepping their boundaries or crossing the line
Or just when I'm upset and flustered
Then that case the fault is mine
Join me this time
Let's look at the Stars
Let's not think too far
Tonight
Drinks on plastic cups are on me

There was once a docile wife.
Let's be mature & only take it as a joke please.
Nothing personal.

Write one line at a time.
Don't stress.
You'll come back with better ideas.
Or maybe sometimes,
it is best to leave
After talking to a friend of mine who is a song writer, he gave me this advice. And I have loved it and lived by it since.

I almost made it to the finish line
but somewhere along I took a wrong turn
segregation’s aftermath still lingering

self inflicted prejudice over one’s skin abstained
self antagonism over one’s curl pattern deeply rooted
self oppugnancy over one’s own race persistent

I know I’m not on the right course
yet blindly I continue
shackling the dependent to me
as i spiral down this cascade

too intimidated to speak out
too worried about social acceptance
too cowardly to admit it

taught that color coding is inferior
but favoritism to a specific color is acceptable

I see police brutality to a specific race
whereas other countries see
Americans killing other Americans

Republicans and Democrats both preach unity
Yet stand divided in one house
but I’m in constant denial
because I was raised as a hypocrite

I want change
but only half of me is willing to fish for that change

it wasn't always the way
minorities didn’t have a voice
so they fought for one

generations later they hoard that voice
locked in a shed
collecting dust

My people have the tools
therefore
don't be fooled
because it’s only a matter of time
before they put them to use
and mold a beautiful sculpture

I'll explain myself in broken verses and scattered memories
Even if I don't understand why now we're like enemies
How did it happen to us after all the love we had
I couldn't move on from this nightmare, this is really bad

Yesterday, it's you and me against this wicked world
I fell but you held my hand and helped me fight the cold
Yet it seems that yesterday, I never had a clue
I didn't notice from your eyes if words were true

So today, please know, I'll try to tell you everything
Even if it will mean more pain, no matter it will bring
Even if I don't understand why now we're like enemies
I'll explain myself

Sometimes I fear for how long my sanity has left.
How long will my dreams shield me from reality?
Pauline Morris Mar 2016
I was born a step out of time
One verse short of a line
One word short of a rhyme

With this world I do not jive
A worker bee without a hive
And all I hear is lie upon lie

I'm not sure exactly where I belong
I hope my life will not be prolonged
Untill that day I'll just keep singing my sorrowful song

I won't need to rehearse
In human kind I've seen the worst
And my life seems to be cursed
Pauline Morris Mar 2016
I don't need anyone to tell me it's so
Don't you think i already know
As a poet I ****
But I'll just keep pushing my luck
Putting pen to hand, and ink to paper
Getting the words down before they turn to vapor
I have to write it down in a hurry
Cuz the words fly by in a flurry
And some times they run right out of my mind
The madness that creates is hard to define
So forgive me just once if I fall out of line
And miss the rhythm and the rhyme
