they always say
to set free
the things you love,

but they never mention
that you will still
love
what you set free.

I used to look out the window,
and see the city scrawled out beneath me.
I used to see birds fly and imagine myself
with them,
no boundaries to my flight.

Maybe having my head too far up in the clouds,
lifted my feet from the ground.
And as I stood there, gently levitating,
the shaking earth took away everything.

Now, I'm a crumpled mess on the ground.
It hurts my eyes to look up at the sun.
Looking out the window shows only
a brick wall, a barrier to my imagination.

The birds have betrayed me, so has the sky-
the Earth has chained me to herself.
My wings have been ripped off,
even before they ever sprouted.

A bird once flew into our classroom,
My pumpkin teacher none the wiser.
In my mind I willed the bird to come closer,
Probably to distract the teacher.
Maybe class would be over, evacuation so no one got bird flu.
The principal might have caught the bird,
And if the bird pooped the janitor would be called.
No one could do math with that happening.
Or maybe I wanted the bird to lift me up and take me with him.
Out of this room my body was chained to.
Take my body to my mind, amongst the birds.

I am chained
Bound by feelings unwanted
Never moving forward
Forcefully imprisoned

You are free
Liberated from your weights
Walking forward and not looking back
Flying as a bird

We are broken
With the sword of love
Intertwined in a web of feelings returned
And not returned

Love is the lightest feeling
And the heaviest burden
Rejecting someone is not easy. I've done it only once but it still hurts. This is what it feels like to be on the other end of unrequited love.

War
Will I ever fill these pages with how I really feel?

My emotions run wild, and so will this pen...

If I can't write down these feelings I keep chained within....

No living soul has pushed through
The guarded gates of my mind.
What you know is just the surface
The horrors none will find.

I may not look, but be aware
That I always see
When you think you're getting there
There's miles to go in me.

Heart is tired, barely beating
Wrapped around in chains
The key to which is hidden well
Never seen again.

The bright crimson only leaks in the most battered places.
Violated, left for dead, nothing more it faces.

Once unbound and free to go wherever it may please.
Now hardened, trapped, and cold as stone.
Locked in eternal freeze.
I'll listen to your problems and give you what I can. But don't expect me to ask for help.

Struggling is pointless, as I am chained by myself.
With these weary scraggy arms, I threw the key as far as I can.
I didn't know what got into me but all I knew was I am "trapped".
I long hid under the shadowed wings of someone elses sweet lies,
Spoiling my innocent mind.
Torturing me gently with their alluring soft whispers.
All the while, without me in my conscience,
They're taking away everything that is mine.
Grabbing all that they can have
While I was enjoying the fact of being blind to their tricky traps.
I don't feel that I am already paralyzed
Because it felt like I am in the fullest of my beautiful sleep.
But when I woke up, I can do nothing about it at all,
Either will I get back all my belongings,
For I had been cheated.
It feels like
part of my silver soul
was torn out and locked into a cage,
one I cannot reach for
I am chained to a dark stone wall...
The wall,
cold on my back,
but a trap all the same.
These chains are holding me,
from staying sane.
I need to get out.
I need to get free.
If only you
could understand me.

no more than just an illusion
yet a face revealing the pain
which wasn't there before

a prisoner chained
by the requirements
without a key to free
the loving heart inside

a mirror with a scar
may not be perfect
yet each one is different
in its own special way so
don't overlook the qualities
a scar can sometimes hide

there's no way to turn back time
so why hold on to old pain?
let go of the echo's of the past
wipe away all the falling tears

little by little learn from the
mistakes made and change
the wrongs into the rights
with every new day
there is a new horizon
