We were in search of the sea,
traveling the curves of the highway
on the hunt for a lighthouse in the distance
running from responsibilities like the plague
pretending the summer heat won’t fade
building bonfires as the sunlight
falls behind the waves
and still, we smile
the first ocean i fell in love with

Had a gorgeous dream
Your broad arms wrapped around me
Gone are my worries

With you,
light seems even brighter.
With you,
life seems to have more meaning.
With you,
smiles seem to be happier.
With you,
time seems to tick by slower.
With you,
all of my worries seem to float away.
With you,
I feel as if I have more to live for.
Without you,
I don't know what I would do.
Some people really know how to make a difference.

Like a moth
Is attracted to light-
towards self destruction,
I'm attracted towards
an unknown reverie.
A venom has handicapped me
forever; venom of
contemplating nameless worries.

From the top of this mountain
I look upon the earth.
Everything seems so small
as the wind is stroking my skin.

All our problems,
insignificant.
As gravity looses it's grip on me
my worries fade away.

The wind is whispering to me,
begging me to follow its call.
Like a feather
it carries me away.

I've never met someone with no worries
I've never known someone who's that worthy
Worthy of a peace of mind
Worthy enough to be kind
I guess things just get too blurry
Are you worried?

We are afraid of gluten, nuts, fat, carbs, sugar, shellfish, meat, fish and dairy.

We are afraid that the internet will crash and we will have to spend more than 20 seconds a day in our own heads, and not in the ****** stream of consciousness of society which is social media.

We are afraid of others knowing just how stupid we are, that one day they'll realise we've been hiding behind trivia since we discovered QI and TED talks.

We are afraid that someone will correct that Friends quote we use almost daily, and by doing so render our existence meaningless.

We are afraid of being angry or sad, or so happy that we might offend those who aren't, and therefore adopt a bland honeyless oatmeal flavoured apathy instead.

We are afraid of mistakes.

We are afraid of mistaking gender, sexuality and race, should we say he, she, them, they, Mr, Miss, Mrs, Mx we're not as sure as we once were.

We are afraid of being at the age where we can no longer blame our laziness on youthfulness or adolescent carelessness but instead realise that if we don't start soon...

We are afraid that we have made a wrong turn but have travelled too far to go back.

We are afraid that we have made all the right turns, but life is just **** anyway.

We are afraid.
A creative response to a class in my MA. Consciously imposing my own petty fears on society as a whole, because it's easier that way and it's fun.

“Ever-shining star,
so innocent,
yet so bizarre-
how do you shine so bright?”

well,
if I told you,
that it’s burning-
hot, vile and untamed
would you still really love me,
the same?

bright light,
glowing your day.
my pulse,
steadying your nerves.
if I told you, I wanted more,
would you run away?

like the stars in the sky;
so lonely, yet so near,
is it selfish, to want to be…
closer to you?
[the star waited for an answer. but how silly, it must've seemed, when the moon decided to kiss the star's forehead and laugh. "it doesn't matter, as long as you keep shining for me, I'll always be here for you- as well"]

I worry for the world.
I do, it’s true.
I worry for the world,
Through and through.

On this earth,
There’s so much wrong.
It decreases worth.
We’re never strong.

Echos and rings,
From the shots of war.
There’s many things,
There’s so much more.

There’s starvation, poverty,
Racism, inequalities,
All of these things bother me.
All of these things cause casualties.

Starvation and hunger
Affect many people,
Adults and younger.
All hope there’s no sequel.

I could write a book on racism.
It’s been done before,
And it’s caused quite a schism.
Drops jaws to the floor.

Inequality sickens me
And many others, too.
Everyone has the right to be.
To be who they want to.

Every person is a snowflake,
Unique in every way,
But we push them ‘til they break,
And don’t see another day.

Bullying leads to taken lives,
To sadness and to fear.
Doing awful things with knives
And shedding many tears.

Social media has taken over
Human robots, too many.
I’m lucky as a clover,
Because I don’t have any.

Parents’ expectations are too high.
Kids are failing class.
Many of them cry,
And are as fragile as glass.

Celebrities are idols,
Yet many are fools.
They’ve become our rivals,
Not as precious as jewels.

Technology is worshipped,
It’s addictive like a drug.
Society will worsen.
It’s time to pull the plug.
