From Spirit's plane to ER, I
Waited 4 hours post triage.
Watched a middle aged white lady wail herself to the front of the line for her pain was the only thing that mattered in a room of other equally ill patients.
My body shocked and perhaps still in the sky.
It was this moment that solidified that I had matured: grown to know long suffering love more that the other traits. Patience was as rooted as my African ancestry, my black race.
This is an observation poem the stings me like Bee mid meditation & reflection. There is so much to unpack and release when the pain is this bad. I am grateful for another outlet that allows me to share my journey.
Every knee bowed on our neck
even when we’re right our tongue will confess
just to stay breathing.
Snakes in the grass that we’ll tread and hex that lays seething,
fake bleeding, just as a reason to decay our meaning.
The rage is heating but their passion for us stays freezing.
What’s next? Modern slavery is them open-carrying
weapons that prosper and officers that foster beatings.
Their face red as a lobster sneaking on someone black just to accost her.
Blue is the color of mobsters that fed lead
to someone innocent; she bled dead in her own ******* bed.
We could be doctors, seeking to uplift with our waters but instead,
we’re razed to the ground, wasting away in a plot
as we rot! Yet we wrought nothing in their haze.
Our offenses aren’t grave but we dance with dismay to our graves.
September 23, 2020: It’s sad to know that our lives don’t matter to people. They want to take our hair, language, music, everything else. They take everything. They make us into what we’re not and take from that image too. I wish America cared about black people. It’s so ******* exhausting being a black man in this country. Black women have it worse. Again, where is our reprieve?
It can help you move forward,
In this time of intense pain, and anger.
Speak truth to power:
Being honest about difficult issues.
Difficult for just about everyone,
But they fear for good reason.
These stories are a reflection of human dignity.
Widespread resistance toward
efforts to promote equity and inclusion.
A host of other negative stereotypes,
Lie beyond the problems
Courage is based on sacrifice,
for the sake of a cause that is greater.
Use allies and speak as a collective.
More than one disgruntled person.
Black stories are human stories.
Channel your emotions
The full extent of your rage or despair
After you are feeling centered,
to the ignorance and hurtfulness:
evoking defensiveness and fear.
...perhaps they feel problematic to you.
Can you help me understand?
We are moving forward together
The tongue will speak to them,
It's not just about money,
it’s yet another injury
to require them to justify human rights
And the unfair weight of hurt feelings
For real change to take root,
learn where you are and where you want to be.

You say you hate the human race
I say you have a lovely face
You think you’ll never reach the place
I think that you would miss the chase
So I unlace
And you embrace
And with the world we keep pace
‘Til the day we disappear
And leave without a trace

You know me so well
I share everything with you first
You know everything about me
Things I might not even be aware about
You bring me to Utopia with each touch
A single swipe, and I get my cup of tea
But how bad could you be for me
I have increasingly decreasing attention
I am just a tool to you
A point to collect more data to sell
And sell away to manipulators
And attack me with new intelligence
I am always gullible
Technology, I can't live without you
I need you more than I thirst for water
why do you set out to destroy my entire race?
the human race is
mother and i must suckle
or die a rare death
writing is easy
when your heart is in the lead
your mind in the back
but as soon
as something happens
my brain says
i told you so
crosses the line
my heart left
in the back this time
as i run
