"samhain" poems
The fear is limited To the chills up the spine Ghosts cling to the living Spirits cling to good times The music and laughter Binds the trance The heart beats In mysterious rhythms Paranormal enhanced Waxing from a Libra moon The shadow worlds ignite Young at heart soar forever In a restless states of fight The veil of Samhain Be opened wide Let wandering soul roam free As we celebrate another year    Of Natures selfless deeds ...

AT THE THINNING OF THE VEIL
Darkness, it falls like a massive leaden shroud Over this quiet valley as the dusk  infects the sky Pleasant faces fade into the shadows of the night As the demons of the dead and dreaming come on out to play Howling at the moon Swarming through the streets Lurking in the shadows On this night of Halloween Carve the faces, light the candles Offerings must be made In the cold October moonlight To the Phantoms of Samhain If you fail If these ghouls are not appeased You will be... Taken by the spirits of the dead!!! The Tempter's Chosen And kin to the Grim Reaper Children of the Darkest Night Steal mortal souls to feast on Ghastly transformations Amidst accursed corpses We are possessed by the evil of tonight's demonic forces! Carve the faces, light the candles Offerings must be made In the cold October moonlight To the Phantoms of Samhain If you fail If these ghouls are not appeased You will be... Taken by the spirits of the dead!!! By the light of the orange moon In the dark of the purple night We linger in these shadows And wait there, until the time is right... On this night of Halloween We roam your city streets And among the masks of plastic We can finally be free So carve those faces, light your candles Offerings still must be made In the cold October moonlight To us Phantoms of Samhain And if you do not heed these words And refuse these simple deeds Well then, my friend You will be, Taken by the spirits of the dead! And if you do not heed these words And refuse these simple deeds Well then, My friend, you will be Taken ... Taken to the grave! Taken... Taken far away! Taken... Taken by we, the Phantoms of Samhain!!!

Evening shimmers wet with Autumn rain It's sheen reflectors, mirrors, eyes Of cavorting shadows amongst the fey Like city tinsil this Samhain night, Oh how lovely colors celebrate With ghostly kin & youthful lights... With circus-painted skins and facade Of candied ghoulish grins, How sweet & innocent the haunted highs Infects each home, "trick'r'treat" of hymns. Laughter like All's been forgiven, All seems right, again... Though hidden faces -  forgotten sins, Speak sie la vie this holiday, With carved pumpkins, witches' cry, Screams are as illusion as the fright, This Samhain evening’s tide . It's all babes and monsters ball This hallowed eve This Samhain night Tra la li, tra la lay Then tomorrow is Hop tu naa... The days after for all our saints... Come the winter will be white, As the ghosts this Samhain night.

Samhain
Swirling spiral of anti-matter Cascading down an endless ladder In non-corporeal states Spirits search for their soul mates One taste and we miss our goal And cling to a second-hand role One state that we all share Bittersweet and unaware Feed on life, consumed to death We devour the world with every breath Forged by chance, nurtured in deceit We glimpse the truth and quickly retreat Our description becomes indescribable Our delusions become undeniable You were once mine for a moment in time I embraced your accustomed wounds Used and abused, starving for love You shone like a Samhain Moon Yet love is alive, not a lie Not a manifestation of will Not a statue of god or paradise façade Nor some unholy devil’s deal I was once young with mind undone Chasing a somber moon Yet time has devoured Those dead flowers Upon that empty tomb

SOMBER MOON
I tromped across North America a few years back Following the Mayan Elders Listening to the powerful Lakota Brothers sing songs of mourning and joy Building community I was following a White Cherokee We created clan I was motivated by the teachings of the Anishinaabe And represented Thunderbird Clan We stopped in sacred spaces such as Serpent's Mound And Cahokia Mounds We peered briefly through the veil; Samhain I followed the red path and eventually found I had always been on it I met Hopi and Navajo elder's And my friend Sea, a pipe carrier brewed a special tea I was gifted tobacco that had been grown from seeds Recovered from an iceman's medicine bag She transmuted the ancient tobacco into a tea By folding it into a sweetgrass and cedar brew Sea gave it to me in a basic stainless steel carafe Every time we drained the carafe I refilled it and the essence was just as powerful as the previous brew When I finally caught up with the Lakota brother's in Sedona Their voices were raw We all were I shared the tea with them So much magic on that journey The joy on those brothers faces as the tea reached their throats I gave them the carafe and told them It was the gift that keeps on giving Their thankfulness has been the gift that keeps on giving

The Red Thread
Dear ancestors hear my voice On this Samhain eve I have a Message for you Be sure I have found my love A love that releases me The version of me you may not know The one that I have became It is true that this love has grown Grown into a perfect and lasting covenant Love that is rare and true She is the embodiment of me in a Special and all seeing person She has given me sight to see the world in its glory The Vision of which I have never known She has given me heart to carry on when all seems lost Courage to face each day The tenacity to make the most of my life and of hers The soul that we share is complete in the extreme It is extreme as it is perfect and as one She gives me more than this more than I could ever Ever ever say. I found her just six years ago She came to me in a rush of circumstance Something unexpected and yet hoped for I can say much of this but all I need to say Is that I love her so dearly it hurts It hurts because life itself is so fragile. I hold this love in my hand and cherish it Cherish this day as we walk together into our Seventh year through the mist and veil Of Samhain, oh Samhain, This is our time Max Hale Dedicted to my Jan on the anniversary of our meeting six years ago.

As darkness fall, the veil thin, The year is drawing nigh. Shadows lengthen, gather strength, The year is drawing nigh. The dead they stir, and look around, The year is drawing nigh. Tonight they walk, tonight they dine, The year is drawing nigh. The sinks down, she’s dying now, The year is drawing nigh. Beneath the hills, the dying sun, The year is drawing nigh. Hollow hills, they open wide, The year is drawing nigh. Faerie folk, the mighty dead, The year is drawing nigh. Samhain’s fires, burning bright, The year is drawing nigh. To dance around, in death’s embrace, The year is drawing nigh. Ancestors dead, some long gone, The year is drawing nigh. We tip a glass, we place a plate, The year is drawing nigh. Death stands up, tonight he reigns, The year is drawing nigh. In darkness strong, the dying year, The year is drawing nigh. The revelers grow deathly quiet, The year is drawing nigh. All knees bend and all tongue stilled, The year is drawing nigh. For Death takes all and all will come, The year is drawing nigh. The Gates of Death, they open wide, The year is drawing nigh. His face you meet, at Death’s great doors, The year is drawing nigh. A friend, a judge, a lover, a blade, The year is drawing nigh. His embrace is sweet, but deathly cold, The year is drawing nigh. In love he strips you, bone from bone, The year is drawing nigh. Nothing left, you pass beyond, The year is drawing nigh. The veil it parts, the doors swing wide, The year is drawing nigh. Your last strong breath, last ****** The year is drawing nigh. And through you go, to what’s beyond, The year is drawing nigh. But Death’s great doors and Life’s fair doors, The year is drawing nigh. What’s dead and gone, will be reborn, The year is drawing nigh. A new breath breathed, a new day dawns, The year is drawing nigh. Death to Life, he takes your hand, The year is drawing nigh. All is gone, but all in new, The year is drawing nigh. The new dawn’s sun, in the east, The year is drawing nigh. The cold it flees, the shadows hide, The year is drawing nigh. Dark Samhain’s night to new year’s light, The year is drawing nigh. What was dead has come again.

Samhain (2016)
Samhain time spirits are free ***** and lime share our company Smirking at our silliness smugly knowing we'd scream if they showed a willingness to swim in our stream If there feeling naughty we'll experience a feeling something wierd and creepy our senses left reeling We'll put it down to atmosphere or wishful thinking truth if we knew would cause fear our hearts sinking So leave them alone it's their moment cause them to groan and you they'll torment

Samhain
*coloured flames and fireflies dance mischievously around our heads to the tiny trumpetsong of bees Joyous songs of love lulling all in revery yet silent to mere mortals as We only hear the hush of whispered sighs stood beneath the dappled canopy of   ancient fair oak spread As sweet twilight greets us again swathing our Ianthe in milky moonlight as she rests upon a dew jewelled knoll still dreaming of fae Unaware of the cold (or the warmth you hold in your heart for her) She smiles as you cover her shoulders with a elven~made blanket of gossamer wisp whilst estivating toads blink wide in the coolness of hidden mossy beds                         Gently, sweep the                 droplet                          of Au            from her eye, Deva,   as we cough etheric      dust from our lungs, sparkles    floating in the paper-             lantern light               scattering across the midnight sky, illuminating fates, as those fire-flies hearts twinkle like falling stars unseen*

Welcome, Samhain, the Festival Of The Dead The year draws to a close and we look to the New Year ahead With the veil at its thinnest, spirits freely roam Its time once more to welcome your Ancestors home Listen to their messages and take note of their advice For they know things we cannot, except at a price Raise a glass in their honour, then bid them farewell Though they never really leave us, and this we know well Tomorrow brings a new day, though the Dark Lord slumbers on The New Year has begun, let your voice raise in song Set out your hopes and desires, for it’s a time to look ahead Ask the Blessings of the Ancients as on your path you tread May the coming year be fruitful, may you prosper and grow For you’re a walker of the Old Ways and this is what we know We are children of the Ancients and so we are doubly blessed For we are the chosen ones, each on our own Sacred Quest. Blessed Be. Samhain 2012 Nerwydd Dragonborne

Samhain (repost)
Samhain last night Peering through the veil Seeking truths Absolving Those who believe In absolutes Finding One Immutable Fact The Source is Love God isn't dead There never was a god This idea is anthropomorphic Navel gazing Of course There are no absolutes This poem Attempts to capture A moment In my spacetime Relativity

Immutable
It is fall again, that time of year when the veil between realms thins, and the dead rise from the depths of their graves, to roam our world, and torment the living. It's the time of year, when children fear, the monster in the closet, and the boogeyman under the bed. It's the time of year, when werewolves howl at the full moon, deep within the dark woods. Fall is here, and with it comes the time for the dearly departed to resurrect, and share the world with the living.

Samhain
In the graveyard chapel With the candle wicks nearly extinguished Was a black dog who guards the grave of his master Who's bond to this world is relinquished Old bones sit in the mausoleum near by Do the dead ever come back to the land of the living? Sometimes the dog barks at seemingly nothing But on Samhain when the divide between the dead and living is so thin The ghosts of the deceased inhabit their homes again The faint murmurs of voices heard a long time ago The dog barks and the ghost light glows People never seem to believe Deceived by their own scientific nature But if you stare into the mirror at Samhain You can see the image of those who have passed Maybe heaven or hell is not enough for these spirits to fit in? Long forgotten souls their grave stones unwritten by time Eroded away like the decaying of time Youths flower fades into dust...

Samhain, What does it mean? Is it just Halloween? Welcome the dark, Not the evil, Welcome the seasons, And be peaceful, Dress up and play pretend, Join together, in a song that never ends, Celebrate with me, In a night filled with glee, From now to tommorow, Happy Samhain!

Samhain
Black cats race down the street They all stop and stare where the cross sections meet Normally you wouldn't care Normally you wouldn't shiver under their stare But on this night With a chill in the air As the fall leaves rustle under the glare A full moon hangs with a wicked stare You hear something on your right You look but nothing is there Out the corner of your eye you catch a glimpse Something dark, you can't see, just feel it's presence You start to shake Your mind going wild The fear tonight you cannot reign It is Devil's night It is SAMHAIN!

SAMHAIN!
Samhain Moon: the tides are turning, currents rage, leave my stomach churning Poetry becomes reality -- A Monster, fashioned in the Blue Moon's rays of saddened heart and vengeful ways, I part my lips, swallow lightning bolts, breathe in hurricanes and instead, breathe out Songs of Love and Pagan gods -- Sever the chains of Death's clanging Chariot, straddle the Steeds, trap the Storm in Shells and reeds, Poetry becomes reality -- Wrapping verse around a concrete heart, shatters of infinite forms come together In the Eye of the Storm

In the Storm: Lifting Veils
Tonight all the spirits come out and dance Tonight all the beasts jump around and prance Tonight we join that ancient Celtic trance From Japan to America to Johannesburg to France The spirits and fairies walk the earth tonight As we watch and tell stories to induce fright As werewolves and zombies come out into the light And all of the witches shall do as they might So happy Hallows eve, wherever you are Be it in a haunted hedge or a ship in the stars From the days of the first druids to those of flying cars Let us all, human or not, come out to laugh, sing, and roar
