The sky dressed in a lavender hue.
Six o'clock mornings always felt better with you.

You were my morning cup of tea,
A one hundred percent all-natural sweetener guarantee.

They could find us in the sky,
With our footprints in clouds of sunset tie-dye.

Just like that, we were gone with the wind.
Sailing, never to be seen,
And so our story would begin.

Water longed and gasped at the sunset colors above her
lapping them up in her mists and rolling waves
she took these tumbling breaths to exhale the palette across the bare sands, persuading them over and over again through time
till they too tumbled as grains in the radiant slurry

"There now, Earth and Sky. This is how we are One."

but are you not in all things?
the glory of morning and the peaceful rest of night.
our love is no light affair.
it is the heavy press of storms
and found in the eastern and western rains.
is not each word but a picture frame of my love?
to display it as clearly as a blue sky and an untouched lake.
are you not with me in every moment?
a constant presence
through every sunset and sunrise.
through every hot month of summer and cold of winter.
you are the heavens,
you are the earth.
and happiness is of you, a brilliant
radiant light of all the good in the world.
an epic love poem or whatever

Accompanied by blushing hews
The darkest skies chase the magnificent sun to it’s watery grave
The ocean waves rage,
patiently awaiting the burning head as it submerges into the depths
The baby blues turn to royal shades
The gentlest pinks fade to sickly yellow
The ocean greens turn to harsh steel
And down dies the sun
Its accompaniment is now red
Red as blood
The moon usurps the sky and reigns over the stars
Its silvery gleam rains on the ocean waves
It rains over the sleeping multitudes of creation
I witnessed this all
I witnessed the colors merge into black
And I exult in the solitude and the splendor and the magnificence of the moon
In the peace of the waves as they crash
And I lift my eyes to heaven and thank the Lord of hosts that he has given such beauty to the start of each day
In Hebrew culture, the day starts when the sun sets, rather than when it rises...

You anxiously anticipate evening restlessness
feeling the pain of resilience deep in your bones
but dying fires from the sunset sky cool your eyes
and a horizon line is sewn into your heart
where blazing sunset colours go to rest
after evening blues wash the sky
and leave behind droplets of stars
you fall asleep - dreaming of hope

You dropped out of view
Just over that low, low skyline
Where the roads travel further than my eyes can comprehend
Between rigid cliffs, where the tree does bloom
And the water bungees with snapped cords
Where the deer stride and the hare watches
Quietly for passing to come
Sunset

With each tear, a memory of us blooms in my mind's eye.
The pink-purple of the sky blending into your eyes,
until I couldn't tell
where You ended
and the World began.
Maybe there's not even a difference.
Just the same words speaking in different languages.
This is me trying.

first breath of sunset

on the gull’s wings

My favourite colour
Is like no other
It’s sunset with you

A silent whisper
A gentle kisser
Is a sunset with you

It’s like all the butterflies
Are shooting to the sky
To see the view

The waves are a symphony
Oh what a sweet sweet melody
Singing the blues

You’re my sunset lover
You’re my favourite colour
Warm bright at bay
But colours fade away
And a sunset never stays
Awake

Don’t go away
I hope you’ll stay

The sun is sleeping
The dark is rising
I’m alone with the moon

Although it’s freezing
My heart is burning
Crying over you

It’s like all the thunder clouds
Come crashing down to the ground
Sinking in blue

Though the sun will rise again
Sunsets won’t be the same
When without you

You’re my sunset lover
You’re my favourite colour
Warm bright at bay
But colours fade away
And a sunset never stays
Awake

Don’t go away
I hope you’ll stay

My sunset lover
Has no more colour
Cold dark at bay
These are the lyrics of my newly composed song "Sunset lover"
Paul Idiaghe Dec 2020
Surely, that sunset is only
his lemon heart falling down

the globe. Love, how you draw the red
from his aorta, smear it

over his center. Surely, this slow sneaking
darkness is only ink spilling to grieve

his beloved—see how metaphors rip that fluff
to constellations; their twinkle would trace

her torso; her treasures; her tales.
& earth would shut its mouth

to listen to his star-studded silence,
would stare as color fades

to soul. Surely the sky is not
so different from me.
this title is a line from Sylvia Plath.
