“not all that glitters is gold”
they say
he smiles
gold or not, he wanted to have it
needed to have it

his mind splits in two
limbs too heavy to move
thoughts rushing and falling
but they don’t
translate

he determines his worth by his work
the best
being on top means
there’s so far
to fall

his body begging him to stop
he can’t
he lost control long ago
the bottle draws him in
with the bitter taste of oblivion

the red haze of anger
residing in his blood
if you play with fire
they say
you will get burned

always second best
never wanted never chosen
over the ones who could do better
the air is acrid
his face twisted

bodies tangled
skin against skin
neon lights
dopamine and oxytocin and
want

Kids, like glass, aren't indestructible.

    As much as the boy who smokes stolen cigarettes on empty train tracks,
going through them like cheap candy,
says that he's not broken, he's cracked a long time ago.

    The drug addict who plays with fire as if it's his pet, running fingers along soft orange and reds, burns littering his arm, knows that he's shattered beyond recognition, but he doesn't care.

    The abused boy, curling up into a ball under his bed to avoid the beatings, his face covered in blood, glass from a broken bottle thrown at him studded in his arms. Glass from a broken soul studded in every aspect of himself

     The bad boy, who gets into fights and does graffiti on the walls, says that he isn't glass. That someone who has gone through as much as he did shouldn't be something so fragile. He shatters too one day, when he finds himself corned by 5 men in an alley. He doesn't come back out.

     The insomniac who's plagued by nightmares when he's awake, find that they only get worse when he sleeps. So he takes pills, pils, pills, until the glass gives out, and crumbles into powder.

     The depressed boy, who thinks his existence is a burden, holds an empty wine glass in his shaking hand. As he sinks lower into the bathtub, he lets go of the fragile glass, and it
breaks into a million pieces
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     The schizophrenic who sees his dead friends in the train tracks, the fireplace, the bed, the empty alleys, the pills he takes, and the glasses of water he washed them down with. He sees his friends in the oceans of their home, in the lights that lit up streets they roamed. He sees them in the 24/7 convenience store they’d hang out at, until the owner kicked them out. He know that they aren't real, that it's just a way he deals with his grief. That his mind has created these ghosts because he refuses to accept his friends are gone, the doctors tell him so anyway. But if his ghosts leave then he's got nothing left. So he holds on to his broken pieces of glass, long after they've left him, the memories cutting into his skin. Because he can't have nothing.
We were once kids.
We were once wild.
We were once soldiers.
In the dead of winter, you greeted death.
You fell from my grip and into the darkness,
and now a hundred years have rotted away and I have never felt so alone.
I ran from the winter because war was to attached to it.
I close my eyes and I see you there on the front line.
Young and drained, you were just a body rotting away.
Full of life so you hung on with everything you had.
bang
bang
It was such an awful sound.
Only if I had taken your place.
If only you would have run the other way.
Just how unfair is our luck.
Someday I'll teach myself to learn and live alone.
I'll teach myself that death was not the enemy.
But the winter storm rages on and I'm still having trouble breathing.
Don't be alarmed.
I march on.
Like the soldier I once was.
Don't be alarmed.
I've seen many winter storms
and I have miraculously survived them all.
Can't you see that I don't want to move on?
Don't bring tomorrow because I can't take another.
My eyes are too fogged to see the light.
My minds too cluttered to think right.
I've tasted my own tears
and faced all my fears.
So here I am.
Laying on the floor.
So here we are.
Together once more.
Steve Rogers & Bucky Barnes
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
You lay in a field of flowers counting each bird that passes overhead.
You've erased concern and decided to live for the moment because you always would say, "we might be dead by tomorrow."
Flowers grew from your heart and bloomed across your lungs,
creating a garden that sang the most beautiful hymns,
while my garden was withering.
Each breath you took was never wasted,
but I couldn't help but count mine like they were birds passing overhead.
Every night you would view the stars and moon with pure amazement as if it was your first time seeing them.
You gave all your love to me and each kiss was coined in my pocket.
You fell in love with me every night and I fell for all your hymns.
Soon enough the world would pass us by but I wouldn't blink because I could live off your touch for the rest of my time.
You showed me there is more in life than just one color,
but instead, the world is a whole painting with colors that can't be described.
You showed me just how beautiful the world was.
You taught me how to grow beauty from my eyes but lately, I've been dreaming and falling for stars.
Imagining what it'd be like slow dancing with the planets, getting lost in constellations.
But I'm just not ready to go yet however I do not control time.
You showed me that dying can be beautiful.
That we'll be okay because when we leave we all become one with the earth and one with nature.
So love, love me until time runs out,
until I become one with nature.
And many years later as time starts to fly by and you slowly start to watch your clock tick down, you'll know where to find me, my love.
I'll be up with stars.
Somewhere lost in the cosmos.
I'll be spinning with the planets dreaming about what it would feel like to be able to walk on flowers again.
My Court is a battle
As a Queen, I will endure
so my kingdom thrives
Standing in gardens
My treasure trove of colours
that never fails me
Flowers bow gently
The winds make the tall trees sing
Rivers flow calmly
Scents drift in the light
I hear its sweet melody
As I stand with pride
A Queen now enters
The daughter of Spring and Deer
The tender Queen Fawn
Who smiles so sweetly
Fragrant, soft-spoken and kind
With deer by her side
Another Queen comes
The angel with a kind heat
The gentle Queen Sue
Who has healed her wounds,
broken her chrysalis
And spreads her warm light
Another Queen comes
Wise and soon to be married
Joyful Queen Donna
Who goes with the flow
A talented haikuist
with a flower crown
Another Queen comes
She who is always giving
The giving Queen Kim
Whose crown's a halo
And her words, so spiritual
fragrant and calming
Another Queen comes
Who has birds singing so sweet
The sweet Queen Robin
Who is a true joy
Whose words are just like music
A kindred spirit
And now a King comes
Who is very much like me
The great King Omni
Who is an artist
Who is both seen and unseen
Very much like me
Another King comes
Ever so mischieveous
The playful King Paul
Such a playful tease
He who makes me smile and laugh
And looks out for me
Another King comes
His heart is strong and tender
The wise King Edmund
Who writes for himself
Speaks so well of others and
how vital love is
To these Kings and Queens
Thank you for your melodies
You are golden souls
For now I do see
The true power of my quill
My ink is gold too
I write out my life
My pain, my fears and my loves
And my achievements
I must stay above
I will walk with my head up
and ignore the bad
People will hate me
But I will thicken my skin
to be a true queen
I will empower
And give you all your respects
and never denounce
I am a true Queen
With a Court that is growing
steadily but strong
The reign of Queen Lyn
Who is sensitive and shy
It has just begun
To these poets in particular, thank you so much for pushing me forward!
I'm grateful to everyone here to all my fellow poets on HP
You're all Kings and Queens of your own right!
Much love and blessings!
Awaken onto nature
Set your spirit free
Mighty are her waters
Ancient are her trees
Open wide oh starlit sky
Magical summer heights
Mighty forest kingdom
Feathered furred in flight
Embrace her in the mornning
Evening tides roll out
In the cycle of her Venus
Ending way down south
Love her when she's frozen
She shall thaw again
Awaken on to Nature
Enjoy Her
While you can!
     "This isn't who you are."
    "You're not the girl I used to know."
   "I don't know who you've become."
He repeats these lines
So much these days
It annoys me more than
A broken record ever could
Ever should
Ever would
Cause I told him
I warned him thoroughly
     "I'm not nice."
    "You won't like the real me."
   "I'm not worth fighting for."
But he didn't listen
He filled my head with empty
Promises that he meant
He filled my heart with hollow
Vows that he could never fulfill
     "How can a person be so cold?"
    "How can a lady be so cruel?"
   "How can you change so fast?"
He looks hurt and
I hurt a little
But I shut down
Cause that's what I always do
     "I'm nefarious, lover."
    "Had my heart broken a few times."
   "Now it's made of stone."
I hope Nefarious Breed finds this.♥♥♥
I am adept
In the art of being okay
I have mastered the craft
Of covering my troubles
I use all sorts of fancy facades
Acrylic, oil, watercolor
You name it.
I can paint over nearly anything
You will never know
How late I was up last night
Or why.
My eyes flicker
Like candlelight
But you couldn’t see
You couldn’t possibly see
I’m too good
For that.
I can dance, too
Waltzing away my sorrows
Carefully tip toe-ing the
Pas-de-I-am-fine
I get a standing ovation every time
I’m very talented, you see.
But my all time favorite
Is my disappearing act
I’m still perfecting it
Right now
But one of these days
I’ll show you
How I
Slip
Slip
Slip
Away
Right through your fingers.
Do not misinterpret my silence
As an absence of fortitude
I choose to raise my pen
Instead of my voice
Your spoken words
Will fade with time
My words will remain
Ink stained imprints on your mind
Long after I’m forgotten
