I'm reading over the notes
that my therapist jotted down
during one of our first sessions.

there is so much trauma
and so many diagnoses.

my therapist says that
I'm not alone, and that
so many people know
a similar type of pain.

she's right. I'm not alone,
because I'm not the only
person to have a therapist

and because I'm not the first
person to be diagnosed
with these conditions

and because right now,
at this very second,

there is someone who
is reading this poem and
relating to these words.

sometimes this thought
is upsetting to me.

it depresses me to think
that other children were
raised by parents who
were like my parents,

and that they've faced
the same type of pain.

other times, this thought
is oddly comforting.

it hurts to think about
the children who grew up
the same way that I did

but it also calms me
to know that there
are other people
who are just like me,

because that means
there are people who
have survived this.

that means that
this is survivable,

and that even if I
sometimes doubt it,

it is possible to thrive.
We possess a hidden bucket
And we thrive when it is full
We hurt when others reach inside
Our bucket to dip and pull

We soar with loving energy
When our bucket’s overflowing
It just takes a little kindness
To keep our spirit growing

We possess a hidden dipper
Which we use to fill or take
From the buckets of each other
It’s a choice we daily make

And it’s how we use our dipper
That defines our path in life
So let’s choose to fill each other
And spread joy instead of strife

Notice when your bucket’s full
You feel prosperous and strong
But if your bucket’s low or drained
Despair comes speeding along

You’ll find that when you fill a friend
Your bucket gets filled up too
So keep your bucket ever full
Filling others always fill you

Each of us has an invisible bucket. It is constantly emptied or filled, depending on what others say or do to us. When our bucket is full, we feel great. When it's empty, we feel awful.

Each of us also has an invisible dipper. When we use that dipper to fill other people's buckets -- by saying or doing things to increase their positive emotions -- we also fill our own bucket. But when we use that dipper to dip from others' buckets -- by saying or doing things that decrease their positive emotions -- we diminish ourselves.

Like the cup that runneth over, a full bucket gives us a positive outlook and renewed energy. Every drop in that bucket makes us stronger and more optimistic.

But an empty bucket poisons our outlook, saps our energy, and undermines our will. That's why every time someone dips from our bucket, it hurts us.

So we face a choice every moment of every day: We can fill one another's buckets, or we can dip from them. It's an important choice -- one that profoundly influences our relationships, productivity, health, and happiness.

My lungs desire reconciliation
They do not dare admit
Eyelids are sore and drenched
Closing bit by bit

My lips only part to speak
Hoarse
"I hate you so ******* much"
The air is dry and heavy
Body wants your dark touch

Three am is our witching hour
Scared of little disputes
We both morph into monsters
Into obnoxious brutes

Turns out evil seed is sprouting
I think it can't survive
Wondering if I uproot the wickedness
Will I need help to thrive?

I think I finally know
What I mean by
“I need peace”

It’s not that I want things to stop
Because let’s face it
They never will

It’s more peace of mind
To accept the
Chaos and
learn thrive in it

Trust your intuition
It’s separate from your mind
When given the attention
Your subconscious will provide
The answers for your path
That have always lay inside
A courageous feat indeed
Only then will we truly thrive

Don’t be the flower that exists for the sun.
Live by it.
Be it.
Grow as it.

If I were a stone
I would not believe
that the medow
looks after the rose.
To be hardened
is to be muted.
Any stone that
does not tumble
will not shine.
The truth is that
freedom comes from
aching hearts,
and full moons.
Lonely roses hidden
behind tall blades
of grass.
It's so good
to see you thrive
where you thought
you might not
have survived.

Lost
       In your eyes,
                               Dreaming of darkness
                                            Again

I wish we just could
            ignite,
Burn away the tears
                         In the night

              But whenever we dream,
         You always just
                                  fly away again.

       Alone in the darkness,
          no feeling of light.
                                         Alone in the shadows
                                      With strength I can’t fight.

      I’m lost without you.
                                       I’m now without rules,
                   The feeling of sadness
                                                          Is making me cuel

                                       But I will thrive.
                                I will thrive without you.

That fire
I built it
I built it and I didn't even
Know

This ice palace I
Built it and
I didn't even realise
This tar that's draining me
It's me
It's all me

My heart's deepest core
Isn't empty
Like I thought it was
It was frozen
Now that it's thawing
It's starting to hurt again
Like it did five or
Six years ago
It's not empty but
Like frostbite my heart is
Trying to regain its proper self
Animalistic
Live
Call me by your vein
Your blood
Let it run unimpeded
Your heart needs to thaw
Before it can begin to
Thrive again
The poem is riddled with snippets of this moment, so let me remind future me: it is 3am. You've had another realisation. No matter what your experience was, it was still an experience that doesn't need to be labelled, especially not by 'how do I explain this in words other people will understand'. Your inner heart is thawing on and off. Love you. (Pers Ref: UG20CMBYN)
