Smoke.
Everywhere.
No escape.
Lungs choked by the burning gas floating in the air.
Shrieks of delight in the background
make me wonder what joy there was.
The dead grass crunched under my feet
and engulfed in flame after a tiny, glowing ember
floated from the smoke filled sky and to the ground.
I scream for help
but it is mistaken for joy.
For a smile plastered on an alabaster face and hands
raised to bathe in the shower of sparks
that rain down upon the earth.
Eyes burn with smoke, blurring every image
already distorted by the smog that hangs over the land.
Smiling faces contort to demon
and white winged angels claw from the ground
chanting hymns of forgiveness and eternal life.
But, as if taken by surprise,
the criminal smoke flees the scene of its crime leaving me;
standing there salty rain pouring from
honeysuckle eyes roaming the ankle high grass for signed of life.
Sure enough, carpenter ants skittered under
the pale moonlight rushing back to their mother queen.
Demented angels
melted back into the ground,
not even a mound left from where they clawed through.
Demons smiles reverted to tooth filled grins.
'Kathy,' came a far off voice. 'That was epic!'
Self-made rain stained my cheeks
but no longer poured from my eyes.
Elated strangers whom I felt I knew
overwhelmed my frozen figure, shouting about
my amazing performance I didn't know I'd taken part in.
I muttered under my breath,
'God bless the U.S.A'

I wasn’t pretty
Like Christmas lights
Or wildflowers
Or summer

I was pretty
In the way
Thunder raises goosebumps
And the way
Water droplets cling
To lashes in the rain

You weren’t pretty
You were beautiful
Not in the way
Of smoldering eyes
Or strong arms

You were beautiful
In your voice
And the way
You smiled.
Like
Real
Sunshine

And we weren’t pretty
We were awe
Not in the way
Of fireworks
Or Broadway

We were awe
In the electricity
Of lightning strikes
And the way
My skin tingles
Where your words
Dropped like rain
And refracted light
To make rainbows
“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine...”

Bonfire night.

Bonfire night.  Oh what a fright.
A thousand explosions in the moonlit night.
The blackened sky lit up with little lights,
Like a Christmas tree, on November 5.

Guys with forks and knives eating burgers and fries
And hot dogs with the gals in front of the fire.
Let’s all get warm on this cold dark night;
Sparklers illuminate the faces of the laughing child.

Playing with fire is dangerous, so wear gloves on your hands,
In case the sparks burn you, but they won’t if you are careful and plan.
Each firework should be lit by an adult, not a child;
Because only adults are sensible enough to be that close to a fire.

Fire is dangerous and so are fireworks too;
So sit back and relax and watch the sky like I do.
Explosions of colour flicker in the night sky,
Painting pictures for us all on the blackboard in front of our eyes.

Bang!  And Boom!  Shout the scary fireworks up above,
As they scare the animals (The cats and the dogs).
So stay safe on Bonfire night and be with your family,
So you too can see the pretty colours that we all can see.

Light up the black sky on this starry, starry night
And sleep peacefully in your beds, without any frights.
The fireworks bang and scare the scary things away,
So we can all sleep peacefully in our beds,
Looking forward to Christmas day.

My smile is a dead language.
It used to mean many things.
It was interpreted, adored.
It isn’t real anymore
A vestige of a time long passed.
Now it just represents death
A shadow of the happiness
I used to know.

I used to love fireworks.
I could sit out on the beach
On the fourth of july
And watch them for hours
The brilliant flashes of color
And seconds after, the crackling and booming.

That’s love, my dear.
Pretty one minute,
Seemingly endless and infinite
But destined for destruction.
A flash and then,
Before you even hear it explode,
the colors fade away.
if you even blink one moment-
gone.
Then the boom
Lagging seconds behind
The realization that it is over.
Nothing will ever sparkle that brilliantly again.

What you’re watching are elements lit on fire
Blasted through the air in a blaze of glory
Cascading back to earth burnt up and used.

I used to be alive
blissful, free.
But once reduced to ash
I cannot be lit up again.

The language of my smile
Ceased being spoken
When he stopped listening.

She looked at him like he was colorful fireworks,

But then, he was fireworks,

She could only look at him in awe from a distance,

She could never touch him,

Because if she did,

Then she would burn,

But then, she wanted to burn in his fire.

To love is as good as learning to swim,
Afraid to get  into the pool of love,
Sorry, you will never learn,
Love will pass you.
Be brave, take a deep breath,
Dive into the deep end,
There will be fireworks,
The sky will be ablaze with love stars.
You have three options to learn to love,
You drown into the pool of love,
You learn to stay afloat,
Or somebody rescues you,
The choice is yours.

Isn't it beautiful?
                                                                              It is... Absolutely wonderful.
What ones are your favorites?
The bright loud ones. They always have something to say.
I wish I could be up there among the colors, and the beauty.
                                                                                                I'm already there.
Without me?
                                                                                                  Because of you.
Kinda a part three, kinda not. I've wanted to write some... Less completely depressing things for a while now. So here's this cliche! Yeah...

You said love is fleeting.
That we should be happy
For the time we had
When we had it.

You saw us as a grain of sand,
While I saw us as the hourglass.

You said love never lasts.
That the hottest
and brightest flame
Burns the fastest.

You saw us as a firework,
While I saw us as the sun.
