eid beckoned, and so did visarjan
being a keralite the stomach craved for Sadhya
so I found myself on Onam day
inching closer and closer to a meal gone cold
as the engine revved an unforgiving sigh
I swore aloud with all my might,
the city didn't even stop to breathe,
as mount mary fair blew my brains to sleep
only in bombay will one see,
religions cohere so beautifully

I saw a man
leap out of his car
and rush to the one ahead
to pluck a gas cap
off the hood of the trunk
and ***** it back
into its fixture
and the driver
with shocked gratitude
leaned an obliging thumbs up
out the window
and the hero smiled and waved
returning to his car
under the hasty lunch hour stoplight
and I began to hate us
a little less.

"i think you're
extremely depressed"
you announced
turning off the fork in the road

(well look who's
finally catching on)

"i think that's
extremely offensive"
i replied
turning up the stereo.

"you never want to
do anything anymore
you just want to stay home
all alone in your hot room"

(maybe because that's the one
place where i'm safe to be myself)

"there's a big
world out there
and how are you
going to see it this way?"

(cue that one song about the world
being better off without me)

"mom
i'm tired."

(why do you always
decide to talk at me
on my way to or from
where i don't want to be?)

"well maybe if you
stopped telling yourself
you were tired all the time
you would be less tired!
or maybe if you
stopped drinking
coffee when you
get home from work."

"it doesn't matter
i won't sleep anyway."

"it might help
if you really tried
aren't you taking your
melatonin supplement?"

(i am not taking my
melatonin supplement
because it stopped having
any effect on me months ago
but i'm not about to
tell you that)

"we want to have
fun with you
even dad's commenting
that you don't want
to do anything
and we want you to
go out to grandma's and
grandma wants to take
you on a trip and i want
to take you on a trip
i've been planning it for
two years and i want
you to be actively involved
and i'm upset that you'll
talk to your friends but
not me and i feel like
you don't love me anymore
and i've failed somehow
as a parent and
and"

(and i've
stopped listening.)

"don't turn up
the music
we're having a
conversation here
why can't you go
back to the good
wholesome stuff
you used to listen to?"

(maybe if you wanted
to have a conversation
here you could stop
talking and start
listening to what
i'm not saying and the
lyrics i always sing
along with over you or
maybe you could stop thinking
i'm still who i used to be)

"i think you're
extremely depressed."

*(no **** sherlock
i'm not o-*******-kay
but i wonder why you
didn't notice a year ago.)

All I really ask of this world is that I get to make some use
Of the choices I have made.
I have gotten my license with very specific intentions in mind.
I’d like to manage my trip to work
In a manner that’s just the slightest bit more simple.
I would like to see her
More easily than before
So that if after class
Or even after a long day of work
If I should say
I miss your smiling face honey,
I could then immediately remedy that
With an inquiry as to whether there was
Any chance that I might see that face
That beautiful face
that brings the light back to
my tired eyes.

I would like to clear the water however

I am not asking the king
To bow down to me

I am not asking Caesar
To hand his palace to me

I just strive to spend time even though
With the one person
Out of all of those in the world
That softens my heart
And brings happiness to a day
That may have been otherwise burdened
By sadness and woe.
Too bad I'm not completely independent and autonomous.

I realize that just because I'm 18 and that I am "technically" an adult, I don't immediately get the ability to do whatever I **** well please. But why is it that I can use the car that I take to college to go seemingly everywhere but to see that person, my girlfriend, that makes me feel happier than anyone else could ever make me? It seems like they're looking for something to complain about now that I am giving them less and less to find fault in. One day things will change, but for now things are as they are... And that is out of my control.

In life you are a total nobody if you aren't:

A "socialite superstar" who sacrifices moral for popularity
A tech freak
A work-a-holic
A married man or woman (opposite *** only!)
An insensitive "cowboy"
A confederate flag sympathizer (incomparable to ******, I guess)
A religious fanatic
Someone who is so open minded they are open to bad or EVIL
Rich as hell
Extremely violent or purposefully "unaware of bullies"
Anyone who graduated with honors (3.5 or higher, please!)
Certain everyone should work and/or drive
Covered by expensive life insurance
Popular with dozens of "honest friends"
A gun owner who doesn't believe in the need for regulation
A cigarette smoker (but *** is a "bigger devil!")
Hating cross dressers
A nudist hater
Built with a six pack
Absolutely certain that every hippy is "the devil"
A nature hater
Willing to **** anything that moves (they are the pests)
Giving away all natural love for money
One who loves to go to war, a.k.a. "gung-**"
Gifted with perfected teeth
One to ignore the "little lower people" at work/school
A "brown noser," trying to even out-do your mentors
A cheeky person obsessed with being manager (I'm #1!)
Poised to kick someone out on a moments notice (no hustlers here!)
Always on "mommy" and "daddies" side, even if they went too far

The list goes on and on, but you need to be most of these to succeed!
It's a long list! So many sharks! So little care about them...

A car, a person, a dirt street, the beach.
A loading journey,
Simple, unmeant goodbye.
Not sad to go away,
Relieved to not stay.
Need more space,
Need more space,
Some time away from reality,
Utopia, I'm a fool for you,
and I'm no match for
this mangled world.

She is strength personified.
She battles depression and anxiety,
and keeps a smile on her face.
She's been through heartbreak after heartbreak.
She has seen dark,
but she always sought out the light.
She's seen so much damaged.
Three car wrecks,
a boy who took advantage of her,
and a million lies that caused a million heartbreaks.
She has come out of it all with only a few scars.
She'***** her lowest point,
and still reaches for her highest.
When even the people who raised her chose not to understand,
she still kept pushing through.
She refused to give up.
She kept believing.
She always loved.
And she always forgave those who hurt her.
She is strength.
She will not fail.
She will not fall.
But if by chance she does,
she will get up and try again.
Because she is strength,
and I am her.
Okay so this is the story behind this poem.. My whole life people looked at me like I was sort of pathetic. My parents were together unlike most, they didn't severely beat me, I didn't have many issues with my health.. so in everyone's eyes I was perfectly fine. But beneath the surface, something was not right. I had crazy irrational fears as a kid that faded away as I got older, but turned into bigger fears. I also became insanely insecure because one I reached higher grades I was picked on about my looks and my clothes (we didn't have much money growing up). This made me crave love. I wanted to be in love and to be love so badly. So I settled first for someone who only wanted me around when other girls turned him down, then I settled for a guy who I ended up being in a relationship for awhile and he did so much that I don't even really want to talk about it. He just really took advantage of me and was extremely forceful, and he made me feel completely worthless. After we broke up, I decided to swear off love, but I fell in love anyways and the guy I got into a relationship was a little younger than me so he was really immature and made some dumb mistake that really hurt me, but I forgave him and he turned into an AMAZING man who I am marrying soon. And about the car wreck part, I was in a pretty awful wreck when I was 4 and my oldest sister saved my life. It was so bad that my other sister broke her back and my dad broke his sternum. It caused me to have a lot of anxiety about cars. Then years past and last year around february I was in a wreck with my boyfriend but we were okay (I just developed more fear of cars then). Then in November of last year a drunk driver hit my boyfriend, his little brother, and I while we were driving to meet up with his family and everyone was extremely shocked that I didn't get severely injured or die since I was in the middle of the truck and got most of the impact. this caused the anxiety I have today of cars and being on the road which sometimes causes me to have panic attacks when I'm in vehicles. Sometimes I look at everything that has happened to me, and it breaks me because I realize that it could all happen again or I think so lowly of myself for some of the things that happened. But other times I think to myself "You have SURVIVED so much. Most people would've broken completely by now. You are strong!". So I decided to write a poem to explain how I feel on my positive days. (: I still battle depression and anxiety daily, but I won't let either of them win.

I would like to buy myself a super car
and drive through town just like a star.
It would have to be brand spanking new
and also help me to find love that's true.

I would have to take care not to go too fast
because my pleasure in it just wouldn't last;
as the law would  keep a very watchful eye
and have other people against me to testify.

I would also have to keep it under lock and key
during the night so that it's not stolen from me.
Although I would take out some insurance cover
just whatever I could afford to pay and no other.

People would perhaps regard it as my pride and joy
though really it would be just like an expensive toy.
I am pretty sure now what kind I would like to drive;
the only thing I'd have to do then is financially thrive.

And after I have saved up enough money in the bank
I'd seriously consider what kind of four wheel crank
would be the type of personal transport I should buy
to drive or move around in before spending on nigh.
__________
Written in 2016.
I spent years of my life in a fantasy world.

waters inhabited with murlocs
Forests with centuars and unicorns
I had badass armor
Spellbooks, Abilities, Charisma modifiers!

When you live in Dungeons and dragons you finish quests, unlock gods,
Slay Monsters

When my DnD group broke up

I didn't lose a group of friends.
I lost a party of adventurers

Their eulogies pronounced at the end of that final nat one
Will never be forgotten.

Portaits carved like improv comedy routines.
Characatures of our ideal selves
Bound, sealed, stuck on a book shelf
We deserved another sequel.

When the party healer crumpled her car against a Concrete wall at 70 miles an hour
It made sense nobody else knew how to cast raise dead.

In a world that is supposed to play out our ideal realities
it was no question her charecter lived eternal. the way she would have wanted.
The way we wanted so badly to be true.
Nobody felt right taking over her charecter.
And nobody wanted to **** her off.
So we wrote her story.
Every die she had tossed this whole adventure. Each murloc she ran from, each unicorn she rode, etched into a leather bound tome.
Placed Right on the same shelve we kept our pathfinder books.
Her headstone.
We never played after that.
But she did.
When we placed the novel next to the flowers her mother left.
We felt her cast healing song
one last time
And that night
We got a full rest

The fog of forgotten memories
Blankets the cracking pavement
So nothing can be seen aside from yellow and white lines
and the bottoms of tires.
A slight drizzle begins to fall out of the clouds
But just as quickly as it started
the fog is receding
And the diluted colors of a vibrant city
pulse all around
Like a heartbeat from somewhere deep inside.
Muffled sounds of people come from somewhere,
come from everywhere.
Its almost as though its all a dream,
you can focus on one thing or nothing but not everything at once,
and everything seems too crazy to be real
But a pinch on the arm can be felt
And the dream doesn’t end.
Everything looks and sounds like its underwater
And the colors blend together until no colors exist at all.
The sounds get louder and everything is coming more into focus
And a symphony is playing
With the staccato of honking horns
And the shrill of constant chatter.
But its all hidden from the rest of the world,
the sensations fading as you cross the bridge away
And looking back, all that is seen is the fog and the road,
Making you wonder if you imagined it all in the first place.
