Dear friends many of you have moved
from surroundings I knew and loved with you
but my memories of us have not defused
like clouds hanging dark but always new.

In old age it is the memories that flow
and make you present with hearts beating wildly
times we drank beer decrying the status quo
and when we celebrated little things like being Friday.

We celebrated a lot when life was so full
alive with discoveries, conflicts, and diversity
when our desires and thoughts pushed and pulled
and we felt pain and hope in multiplicity.

But now so many of you are gone
to places unknown: some to you and some to me
and together we won’t know joys of new dawns
we will deal with things like that **** aching knee.

For some of you your children are grown
for me poetry, love, and God enliven and wake me up
but nobody can take from me the bonds I have known
bonds cast with you in sharing, caring, and lifting life’s cup.

In long moments in a waiting room
trying to ignore the next challenge of my body
I’ll be grateful. I’ll not dwell in spaces of doom
I’ll remember those times of being good or naughty.

I’ll visit the rooms and the halls
where we gathered to learn and teach
in those precious moments of my recall
I’ll gather you together for the universes we’ve yet to reach.

This morning I came across a description of the “Epistolary poem” form and it gave me an idea to express to something I’ve been thinking about recently. The title reveals the addressees of the poem, but hopefully others will find something helpful or meaningful in it.

Suffocating between houses so distant
Where oceans tempest in between
An opaque clutch on her throat consistent
Tears wetting her façade, blatantly unseen
The further the households grew apart
A greater despair pierced at her heart

Realisation non-emergent in her psyche
Convincing herself that just maybe
She can squeeze in amongst the houses
Within the distance vast yet she browses
To experience being cherished
On what it feels like to belong
Alas, that cannot be accomplished
Bonds hath severed for far long

Always laugh with, and never at
Try to cry with, and never of
Ease the pain with, and never add
Fix your crowns with, and never knock off
Nurture strengths with, and never weaken
This is a relationship I have with few, but in life, you only need a close few, never many.
Be back soon!

Came from
someone once
addicted to attention

I sit in cellars now with hooked
replacement hands from when
I tried to reach

toward the same
end as my creator

It sure is lonely here.

I reach to wipe my eyes
of tears I thought beyond me
to tear the crystals out
with talon pressed and pointed

Came from
someone once
addicted to delusion

In fact she kept
her throne of chaos intact
Until the day
she died malignant
with her virulence she sat

And so my throat
spits the voice of dissent
else I repeat the same

How do I
raise the volume though
so rebels travel my way?

Enough of us
dumb enough
to forfeit
the little we hold
for the objective good
the mass is
scared to death to
once again acknowledge

Once long ago
You and I were two flowers
Rooted in the same soil
Bonded by a life
Grown from love
And we were inseparable
But one day you
Lead me by my hand
And took me to where
The leaves were the greenest
The trees the tallest
And life most vibrant
And there in the forest of dreams
With a love too ambitious to contain
We planted our own seed
And waited for a new life
That would soon grow from our love
But as fall shed its skin
There was no bud to be found
And praying to Mother Nature
We begged for the seed to take root
But with all life She grants
She can also take
And there in the forest of dreams
Our precious seed did not grow
To be the flower we wanted
But instead laid way
To a soil more fertile and precious soil
And now in the forest of dreams
Where the trees are tallest
And the leaves greenest
There lie upon the soil
Three flowers
Rooted in the same soil
Bonded by a life
Grown from love
Love can give life.

the term 'opposite attracts'
is coined for a reason,
when two similar people are
bonded with chemistry,
it can unwillingly cause
an explosive reaction,
that's physically and mentally
harmful to both sides
due to strong, obsessive
bonds for one another

yet when opposite attracts,
a subtle reaction is triggered
with occasional sparks,
and mixes to become
the perfect formula
we call love
Might sound common, but I've experienced explosion caused by similar attraction. Haven't liked anyone with opposite personality though.

What is sand?

Individually it's nothing
But why is it everything

Under the heat of the sun
The mountains standing
The rocks underneath the running rivers

Sand is nothing but everything after all

You and I are opposed.
We are like disparate species,
Serving an inverse purpose.
Our strange essence seems
To set us on polar paths:

You are the flight-stream of "SHE".
I am the fight-stance of "HE".

You wing in the breeze,
Brilliant and inspiring,
As a Bird of Paradise!
Your feminine charisma
And intuitive self-expression
Looks to all the world
As an affirmation of freedom --
Freedom of voice, freedom of velocity,
Freedom of line and trajectory.
At once so sharp and aerodynamic
And again jubilantly hued!
A flash of sun-lit feathers,
Racing on the wind!
Your air-borne voice is a
Canto of melodious joy!
And your brilliant laugh…Ah!
In truth, I swoon to the
Hollo of your untethered
Celebration, connected, as you are,
To your clan of heart-wise purists!
Your levity (you levitate!),
Your choreographed costumes,
Your graceful pace,
Your soul-evanescence,
Your radiant face!

Yet...I stand opposed, it seems,
In my direction.

I am the Sentinel and I am at war.
I stand watch: raised up --
But by a wall atop, not by wings.
I see a world of trouble,
A world fearful in its enmity.
I look only to the perimeter,
Scanning for our enemy.
I cannot relent from the struggle.
I must stand vigilant as I have sworn
To protect you and all my tribe.

I fight to return to you –
To my friends,
To my family,
To my lovers,
To my neighbors –
A world inspired by hope;
One committed to the healing
Of our many wounds.
A world grounded in the
Recognition of our core
Dignity and our highest lights!
This charge keeps me on task,
Through the dark and cold
Silence, before the clash.

We see the world from opposing perspectives…but we are tethered
To each other by the chains of shared
Endeavor:

You, with your joy and brilliance,
Bringing happiness and creating
Family bonds -- bonds of friendship,
A shared sense of play and
The wonder of human beauty –

Me, in sober wariness,
Standing watch, atop the wall.
I look to the horizon to discover
A vision of lasting safety,
Justice and peace in our time.

It is my duty to serve our people,
To serve you, my love and
My friend.
I serve the hope of a
Purposed unity and work to
Build a shared prosperity,
For our tribe.

We are opposed but we also support
Each other, as we look above,
To and from
Our highest (deepest) selves.
We scan the heavens for the path
To an existence rich
In love, wisdom and harmony!
We stand together in search
Of a place
Where human joy
Is lived and expressed,
For all the world to see!

The puppet master's gone completely mad
Who knows when
Weaving webs of chaos
Knots collide
Casualties fall
And so I do not know
What he was before
But now I’m sure
He is a spider
Eating his own
Children
