The crow

Happy feet
The crow on the bamboo stick
No shiny objects in sight
Looks side to side obliquely
The green worm hanging low
Would be fine for the morning time
Solitary, the crow
perched atop the bamboo stick
later may find a bone to pick

Never exhaust

Finish what you started
Think what you want
Steps taken, mistaken
Never forsaken

Lossless or with loss
The words, always well played
Thoughtfully or thoughtless, gained
Never tossed

Mild milieu
Boundlessly, unbound
Rigours and rumours
Rivers surpass

Never exhaust

Rose gold sky

New to the world
The little bird

Few feathers
Ambitions high
Looking up to the beautiful sky
Wishing to fly

Toddled up to the new branch
A balancing act, tried
The fruits ripe, nourishment found

Few feathers
Ambitions high
Looking up to the beautiful sky
Wishing to fly

The little bird
New to the world
Knew it had to fly
Soon it grew more wings

Rose up to the treetops
Soon found
The rose gold sky

Ambitions high
Looking up to the beautiful sky
Wishing to fly
Inspired by the rose gold sky

Nowhere words

Why is light deep within
And in Darkness not seen

Line after line, the words follow
A ritual, every now and then

A heart in the cookie engraved
Beautiful still

Bold are the ones, with depth,
shallows stand, in test, for depth

Forever skies,
Nowhere words

Footprints

Footprints in the sand don’t last long

Clingy wet mud, lightly does one trudge
The footprints fudged

Fine grained mud, one walks slow, soon to dust the footprints turn

The paws that tread on the wet concrete, footprints one
too many...

Permanent
the unknowns left

The day’s promises

The new day rose
Promises it kept to the red rose
Rose with sparkles of sunshine

A white perfumed carpet
The jasmines lay
On the green grass

As the dusk fell
The birds knew their homes
Warm and welcome, close

In the cold winter’s night
The day and its moments
Forever froze

Anger and grief
Lethal the combination
Can either run you down
Or can bring down everything around
To be able to rightly express

Mortally divine
Bougainvilleas and the sunshine
Together on the vine, sway on
The colours of independence, divine

Playful the breeze, sun dried peepal leaves
Break free of life so green
Brown, soon to be one with Mother Earth

Mortal and true their presence and essence
The leaves represent
Nature and the cycle of birth and death

The journey
Destinations allure
Travels bring the experience
The journey long or short
One takes, for the soul

Clear Shimmering water
Mute swans in the lake
Ripples and trails
Warm glow of the morning star

Mirthful birds, squirrels with nuts
Flying eagles, flapping wings
Cows at the old watering hole
The roads full of people, young and old

Festive, the season, vibrant colours
Orange and pink, rustic blue
The streets adorned
Silver and gold, family traditions hold
Road trip to his hometown for the Festival of Lights

Cliff anger

With none to blame
And no reason to claim
The anger was thrown off the cliff
A soothing calm
Melting down the pain
The gentle breeze
And its silent presence

The window had bars
To protect the one
By the ledge, uncaring of the heights
When deep in a conversation
How eerily close on the edge
So the window had bars
to protect

Fragrant memories

Butterflies
Shades of blue, grey, too true
Dancing ferns, irregular patterns
Shade and sun
mellow winter sky
Earthy pearls, flowers and petals
Stories of innocence and fun
Wherever you may go
it lingers
In shapes and forms, distant
Yet evergreen
Under the vibrant sun
Of good old days
fragrant memories

Coastal land

Orange huts
Fresh coat of paint
The colour that held the conical shaped
wooden frames
Lined by coconut and palms
The coastal land
Rainforest canopy
Tropical island
The bricks in white
Struck slant in the ground
Forming rows
On the pathway
At leisure rode
The valiant horse
Late evening when the tides came in
The sea swelled with the golden moon

Beams of gold
Beams of gold
Whispered in the meadows
Where rainbows grew
The veins of tender leaves
Sparkled and shined
As the barks of trees
Transparent and tall
Branching in translucent fruits
Magically in the twigs
Covering every leaf
The beams of gold

The ones which live

Of the many thoughts
that linger in the mind
Some find the words
And
The rest
just rest
Know not, whether in peace
Again
Just
Trying to piece them together
The thoughts
In words,
a release

Old dusty path

The old dusty path
Weather beaten roads

Lead to the farm
With an old barn

The sun shines
with a light afternoon
breeze

Orange cosmos flowers,
grow wild in the
green hills

Silvery white, slender fragrant flowers,
bloom on the Indian cork trees

The full moon glows through the night
On the old dusty path

Always November
The sun has miles to go
As it smiles in the wispy sky

The rains have paved way for winters
Morning mists, dewy flowers and leaves

My heart set
in the month of November

Lights up with the lit lamps and sky lanterns

Brings in the Festival of Lights
Special occasions and blessings
Pleasant evenings and celebrations

Uninspired

There is not much to write
These days
My mind on an uninspired escape

Disinterested words
Wander off for a sea-scape

Sure there is enough beauty in this world
Yet to be explored

One’s silence
Is often spoken about, by others

Silence is peaceful
Often misunderstood by the clamorous

The silence told
Often brings discomfort to the hearer

Forever Sky

The lamp on the tree
Hung low and free
Scattering light
Magical fireflies
In a golden bell jar

The pink sky
At sunset, painted fresh
And the beach, at a stretch
Wore a million silver stars

The tall and slender palms
flowery fronds
Stood in a dark grey shiny vase
Straight, some slightly bent

The olive green turtles
Took baby steps
As the blue waves
Crashed on the shore
Many things under the beautiful sky

My journey with the virus

It was a lovely morning and the day,
Special, my son’s 16th birthday
Happy and busy with the preparations
But there was something amiss
Couldn’t put my hand or heart on
The day was fine, but by evening there were signs, sickness crept up its way

An out of this world experience
My jumpy heart raced between its place and fist, and the pulse on my wrist
Devoid of any feeling, my fingers numb

The lungs screamed
To be left alone, in silence
With the painless calm
And the pain, unseen

The chaos outside was too much to bear
My heart weakened by the deafening noise
Wanted this break, from some, I prayed
Believe it or not, god listened to my prayer

Fear disillusioned
Too many places, invited
Never the one to travel
At loss, amidst the chaos

I felt a deep pull
In the eyes of my husband and children
They wanted me to be fit and fine
The other side allured me, twice
In my mind, I swayed on both the sides

I remembered the words and faces of my ageing parents
I knew they would be worried
Parents, never fail you
Wise and old, they have great advice

To stay safe from, I tried, but couldn’t
The virus and I took head on
Single combat, the family safe
No more on the battleground
Self isolation done

Home isolation worked well for me
Locked in my room, with the windows facing the road, my days, alone, duly spent
The room lights on during the nights
Been longing for a break since March
Albeit, in a beach resort

Music has the power to heal
Takes you to places, language free
Pre booking, no requisites
My quarantine sojourn complete

Physically I could be weak
But mentally I am strong
With infinite hope and love of the family
Yes from the clutches of the virus
Came back alive, I survived

If words could speak for themselves
Then they are best, written
Spoken, they are sinusoidal
Unless, the wavelengths match

Thank you so much, my dear friends at Hp
My family of poets and poetesses
For reading my words and sharing yours
It’s always home here, I reckon
