The tall grass swayed as I ran through the fields of time,
Looking for places to run and hide,
I could not subdue the voracious ghost,
Had tried tried to mend it- but it only broke me
Tried to fight it- but it turned me into a monster
In the end I became a tad wiser
What you cant face run from it fast
Life is a race anway, cant go back now
Today running away from yesterday
As days start to fly like free birds in flight
And tomorrow from today, while the sun goes down.

Singing my lost melody in the iron cage
Normal was lonely
I hoped and wished of the endless blue
But those hopes and dreams broke

They broke into little gems
Just like the millions of stars on the night sky
I think about what I missed
And I am so far behind

Fighting the dark past,
The ghostly shadow that creeps inside me
Everyone can see it in my eyes
It is taking me away

From where I want to be
Who I want to be...
Nonetheless my mind is set
To vanquish the ghost, or forever remain caged
Learning to live and let live.Second part of this series coming up soon.

the poetess
andrew juma Sep 2016
She glides across the sky at dawn
To come light up my night with her golden glimmer
Her nourising words heal my hurt
As the warm stanzas wrap around my heart

I love the way she sculpts the words
Carving me poetic wings
We mound the winds and chase after happiness
Across the early morning sky

One day I hope
My verses will find her lyrical womb
And make her pregnant with a dozen suns
To rein over the dark realms forevermore

Mirror by my bedside

Mirror by my bedside
Why are you in cahoots with the inner man?
Expose him
Give me a three dimension reflection

What you hide
When you feed my fantasy?
What sentiments you keep burried
Among a thousand reflections?

Plastic reflections you give me
Sunrise and sunsets
Thriving in impressions
You suffocate the real me,vainly

Can you see past my face?lets face it,
In darkness will you see a light in this heart?
In light will you reveal hiding gloom?

Lift off your make-up tonight, dont fake it
Show me where
Visions thin into illusions
Strip it all down, give me the explicit

An imperceptive liar you've become
You frustrated some
They smashed their fist into you, lied to you
Everything that you hide someday explodes

Show me you so I show you me
Be true
And I will be real
Don't care how long it lasts

Crawling over broken glass for adoration,
Acceptance and fulfilment
The heart beats fraily
Hemorrhaging with disappointment

The world spoke promises that never came back
Occasionally they echo in mocking reverberation
The D man below eager, drinking and licking
Every drop leaking from my sour cuts

The world is beautiful with its facades
Encouraging young roses bloom beautifully
But then they wither sadly
The sky leaks happy showers occasionally
That dissolve in a sea of sourness

I look out from my pensive window
Streets are washed in acidic struggles
Trees suffocated and emaciated
Someone once cared for them
Now they don't

Sadistic eyes stare at me
As i watch the world from my window
I dare not step out, I retreat to my cocoon
Where it is just me and my faithful alphabets

Unconditionally the love
Faithfully they never let go
I roll and twirl them into a bandage for my wounds
So the horned man below does not **** life out of me
Poetic hope

Dear Reader
andrew juma Aug 2016
You are the tourist through my wild feelings
You visit intermittently with expectations
Seeking gratification to your longing
You have the best of time then you are departed

We have unrivaled fun when you are here
But before long you are gone and I remain alone
Sharing my blues with my ink and brush
And my happiness with my faithful alphabets

You awe and oh
Confusing scars for beauty spots
Why dont you stay
Face my predators with me

I may paint a mountain of hope
Which you will admire but never climb
I may paint a dispossessed face
But it will never be you

You may imagine yourself in my shoes
But you will never wear them
I may touch your heart
But I may never win it

My wild feelings are the coke
That give you a temporary high you seek
Ours is no strings attached so I wake up alone
Feeling empty after a night of excitement

You like me but you wont stay
I will give you the best time when you visit
And miss you when you are gone
When its just me and my faithful alphabets
You may read it but you might never feel it

Where do they go
Those who vanish from the face of the earth?
Do they find peace?

Can a broken heart be mend there?
Does wretchedness end or stick
Do they find new beginnings?

I can die for a fresh start
But one can never be sure
So I keep having these thoughts...
trapped in the dark

The Rhythm of His Love
andrew juma Aug 2016
My heart beats to the rhythm,
It dances like a butterfly,
In tge glimmering glory of His love
Which flows like a waterfall from above

Oceans way from home,
My destination lost in the hazy horizons,
Engulfed in loneliness I still find peace,
My mountain of hope and belief still stands

The beat of His love makes my heart dance
A song of hope even in blues
I feel revivified like drenched leaves
After a midsummer rain

And I forget all the pain
I soar and dive like ocean tides
In the golden sunrise
When He commands dark storms to be still

Nothing can bring me down
To His name only I bow
He's the stringer of this song called life
The pianist who makes my heart to dance

Love song
andrew juma Aug 2016
Somewhere in the town I heard a strange humming lullaby
That I've never heard before
As my heart beat It made a match to her humming lullaby
Her presence was unexpected
Now I feel protected
Just by having her warmth

She is the only one that understands my story
My worries and my sorrows
She gives me a feeling that no one else can

Her touch is so, magical
And the beat of her gentle touch is so classical
While she places some kisses on my lips I'm so,
gentle to her because her fragile touch reminds me that she is the only one

Possesing every inch of me
She modifies my disposition with her magical hands
So I hit play and wind her back

When my world seems gloomy
She arrives with the sun
And slowly she tosses the sun rays Reminding me that every is alright
I lay back and give her control

She beats the pain out of me
When i turn on my speakers
Her carresing hands so sensitive begin to touch

Exitement and anticipation builds
I hold her tenderly in my arms
And sink slowly away in her lyrical pureness
On our ecstatic trip to paradise

She meets all of my needs
So i ****** to the beat, move every part of me
Moment of total bliss
As I explore every inch of her curves

With her its a perfect world
With smooth lines she serenades
Chanting sweetly about my prowess
Twirling and jingling with fondness

Falling for her allures
I perform the hardest contortions
Marinade myself in her positive vibes
My hands tight around her

Rhythm changes,
We go high ,we go low
then higher like shooting stars
Breathlessly till we ******
And start on the free fall

She is my shoulder to cry on
My molly to feel mellow
Her love spell is so powerful
She does all that I please

She hypnotises me with intense lyrics
Reminds me of lost passion
Future love and magic
As we move along in slow steps

A love song
She is there whenever I desire her
She is forever youthful and beautiful
Her tune is full of promises

She lights up my blues
Laughs with me and cries with me
Till the beats fade away
Carrying with them my pensive moods

When the sun kisses the sky for good night
She makes sure that tonight the sky is full of star's and with the moon

Laying in my bed room before I sleep
She wraps her arms around me
Till we fall asleep

All I need in this world is her glitter touch of her soul
And her glitter soul
Forever in my world

A torn heart
andrew juma Jul 2016
He forages on my doubts
Keeps me sleepless with distress
The real me is envious of me
She is all he wants
Can she stand the real me?

I resent the disgraceful me
Can't look at my reflection in the mirror
He threatens my core existence
So I fight to keep him burried

He mocks, taunts and mortifies
Even as she tells me I have beautiful eyes
It is good she cant peep inside through those windows
And see the struggles inside

I keep him padlocked in the depths
Listen to music and tour nice places
But in the quietest of moments
He creeps back to me

Dampens my spirit
Telling me I am way below
Not good enough
That I will ***** up as always

It is worrying what he can do
Destroy a lifetime in a day
Turn love to hate in a moment

But I wont let him hurt her
I'll leave her if I have to
The struggle to be a perfect man

Bloody World
andrew juma Jul 2016
What are we really fighting,
Spending millions of dollars on weaponry budgets
Delivering moving speeches on war politics
Puffing with haughtiness boasting supremacy

Fighting ideology with bullets and bombs
Too busy cutting branches but leaving the tree
If we got it right we would be free
But now in all the bloodiness we saw seeds

The belief lives on even after names are erased
If we understood the enemy we would attack the roots
Remove myopia and led everyone multifocal lenses
So no one natures the vicious cycle

But right now we are missing the targets
Hating, marginalizing, obliterating with missiles
Dropping bombs on parks, hospitals and bus stops
Caught up in it are children and innocents

Maybe now its time for plan B
Since you can't bomb your way out of it
Lets build trust and address causes
Show strength in love and not arsenal

“ In the moment when I truly understand my enemy, understand him well enough to defeat him, then in that very moment I also love him. I think it’s impossible to really understand somebody, what they want, what they believe, and not love them the way they love themselves. And then, in that very moment when I love them.... I destroy them" Ender's Game.

Say hello to a new day
andrew juma Jul 2016
I see two green leaves breaking out of earth
After long years of dormancy
A chain reaction is starting
Cuffs are breaking lose

No more cages
This shark can dive to uncharted depths
No more shackles
This eagle can fly to uncharted heights

My weaknesses cower at my strengths
Now I smile through the pain
My positive principles
The umbrella through the rains

I hurt in the dark
My soul was hurtled and I was losing the fight
In ways so dreadful
Dreams turned to nightmares

I was ******* in my insignificance
Daily doubted the benefits of my existence
Now I take my steps with confidence

It is morning now and a flower is blooming
My night was gloomy
Now so brightly the sun shines
And heavens cannot resist my goodness

Even though the scars may remain forever
And my scarry past be forever disturbing
I rhyme to say thank you mama
For you helped me win
Thanks to all the mothers who stand with their sons and daughters, through     thick and thin

The Dream Shop
andrew juma Jul 2016
Everyone can afford dreams
But I was the biggest shopper
Shoving condos and benzes into my cart
No cashier at the exit to demand payment

I picked lavish expensive charms
Had no worries about pennies
Everything was costless
Blessings from the gods

I was younger then I grew a little older
I kept shopping for expensive dreams
With time I encountered little snags
I couldnt get out of the mall with my immense goods

So I bargained with my conscience
Drop this and pick that
What was lighter I thought was better
So I chose those that were easier

Years went by and I learnt lessons little by little
A sister had shopped for the Whitehouse
And arrived home with a highschool
The question is can you carry what you pick?

A friend had shopped for the most
Yet arrived home with the least
So I selected the lightest
But when I packed, my car wouldn't budge

I further reduced my pricey costless goods
Albeit grudgingly,promising myself
I would come back for them
But **** there are no second rounds

As I grew older and older
I found myself driving home
With only a few of those costless goods
They were not even the biggest and priciest

They were what I could carry
Every time I stop by that dream shop
To do some window shopping
And say I wish
Looking back at life

Sad Beauty
andrew juma Jul 2016
As she trembled from pain and cold
I had no verbal sedatives for her nerves
I found no right words
So I just held her

I held her so close, saying no promises
As the cold winds whostled in the night
I hoped our hearts could communicate
She was hurt and destroyed inside

She spoke of sorrow
Hope was faded away, her strength wasting away,
A day or two she'd blacked out
Anger, deprivation, fear

They were drowning her in a sea of despondency
My melancholic arms wrapped her
As the bitter cold night shifted
Trying to give her as much heat as I could

I never let go of her
As the earth span us close
I was helplessly wordless
Useless but she held on closer

I just held her
I let her tears drench her
'You are a survivor'
My unspoken words warmed her

Her trembling ceased
As we drifted asleep
We walk up to a flicker of hope
As I kissed her in the sunrise
Unforgettable memories

the enchanted quill
andrew juma Jun 2016
Time and time again I have created characters storywise
Moved every pawn and remained impervious
Royals and peasants alike
Gave them happiness
or sadness
But who owned my story?

When the chill of the night silenced churpy crickets
And the moon waned its light
I climbed a somber shiplet
And travelled realms in search for a magic quill

A moment in life I had written a story
40 minutes changed a lifetime
Little did I know it was my own story
That put me on a risky course
To ward off my woes

Battling the monster sea creatures
Hanging on prophetic scriptures
Every choice was ever so treacherous

All for an enchanted pen
To undo the pain
Rewrite the losers so they can win
And a low life may be queen

A journey through different worlds
Marred by dangers of all kinds
Unveiled treasures
hidden in dark secret places, but no magic quill

One of the treasures was understanding
Understanding that
I am the formidable villain in my stories
But also the greatest hero revered in the scripts

and when the red sun sets in the west
And morning stars come out at dawn
I have the power to change the tune of my life
I am the enchanted quill
A course in life lies in every individual choice,

Autumn leaves
andrew juma Apr 2016
Two autumn leaves shed off
Though feable we double up strong
Not mature enough they say
But today we break away

We let the winds blow us
Keeping scorners at bay
We float away together
Even though gravity pulls at down
it doesnt pull as apart

You are will be the orange leaf
And  I will be the yellow one
Heading for the still waters beneath us
Knowing we will be humus

Holding together makes us last longer
We know there is no forever
But that is no cause to fear

The presence is what matters
The sea of calmness
And the clarity of the blue sky
When we float together
And drop in the sea of extinction

Causing  ripples to slit through the still waters
We hug together tight
Eternity begins in our ending

my typical day
andrew juma Mar 2016
I love the mornings
strength and positiveness
Coarse through my veins
As i rise with resoulute decisions
Determined to have a good day

As the day progresses,
So wanes my faith and strength
Life serves me too many lemons
With demon waitresses

Fight hard I do
Make lemonade from my lemons
But when demons are disguised as angels?
It is an icing on the cake of misery

By mid day I am realizing my hopelessness
and learning to call on miracles
So many rejections
So many betrayals

In the afternoon I give myself up
To the course of the wind
I get torsed north and south
Through  rain and shine
Neither lasting but frustrating

How I survive everyday
Is beyond my knowledge anyway
I end my day with regret
I serve myself some scripture salads

And make resolutions
To be broken again tomorrow

The African Woman
andrew juma Mar 2016
Ochre scrubbed ebony skin
Wooden jewelery here and there
Picture perfect beauty in simplicity
She walked in moral fortification -
fashioned in decency
Hardwork and wisdom was her charm

Barefeet and weighted with firewood on her head
Pots and baskets she juggled in hands
and through scorching heat she focussed ahead
the dessert sand burning her feet
Not once did she say it was a plight

She was proud to be a woman
The keeper of men and children
Through rain through sunshine
cooperating with her man's other woman

She worked for survival of all
Getting up in the first light of day
Submitting and respecting
Raising her children in acceptable ways

She was the unglorified worrior
A war hero could not fit her shoe

But she didnt have that shoe
So she smiled and made her man happy,
and her children

andrew juma Mar 2016
Waves of sensation have washed your coast
Some have warmed your cockles
Others have made you freeze
And miss a beat

I have fought to protect you from both extremes
Fought with light and darkness for soberness

I have wiped my memories for your good
I have built castles in the air for you

I have held you to my chest with selfishness
And while she believed,
I didnt give away even a crumb of you

The result?
Depravity, loneliness
It ***** life out of me
Im going to live and let live
I surrender

Today was a good day
it was a good day today
Everygood came my way
No regrets no way

A good day it was
Better than worse
Im happy ofcourse
no fuss all is lax

Thank God for a good day
godly aid kept evil at bay
I got pay  none was coy
Thats why I say

It was a good day
Easy as a pie
Is the way
We draw nigh to our end

In the end its hapiness
So forget the worriness
Pockets may be moneyless take it easy

Ive scaled myself to weigh
lighter than my sorrows
So I can fly away
To find a better tomorrow

Yay
This is the joy
Today was a good day

World's Clatter and Chatter
andrew juma Feb 2016
The world is full of clatter and chatter
An inspiration killer
To those trying to make it better

Rackets instigated by the media
Minds are floating oxygenless
mid air
how I dream of a noiseless world!

The internet's gutter
Suffocates innovation and originality
Surfers floating in a sea of pseudointellectualism
Infecting each other

Man's worst fear has come true
confusion
Media addiction and inability to listen
Listen to one's own thoughts

Phones buzzing with tweets
Celebrity and cat videos
4000 texts a month for a teenage girl
Leaves her no time for self reflection

The world's charter and clatter
Counteracts education
Logic extrapolation
Projects loss of identity
and susceptibility
To mob psychology

Lets take a vacation
Away from the clatter
Embrace silence
Meditate or say a prayer
And seek inspiration
Outside voice v/s the self

Ill be her friend rather
andrew juma Jan 2016
She glides in her glamour
Irresiatible like gamma
I gape in awe
eye candy

I am cornered in stupor
Me, the preyful master of the jungle

Me the systematic schemer
I encountered no stopper
In my predatory exploits

I persued
Ran like a breeze in the meshy thicket
To capture and feast

She saw me
She smiled with conspiracy
Geed me up...
so confusing

I roared ready to strike
But her smile ...it was mesmerizing
I forgot about my mission
The hunter became the hunted

I tell myself I am still in control
After all I got her, or did she get me?
I wonder

She should be my gala
I decide otherwise
To take that moment of temptation
To marvel at her fineness

She is the muse
turning out to be my luck
I might keep hunting
But her I will keep
Preserve and protect

It will be alot better
If see her tomorrow too,
And the next day
And the next day
So I will be her friend rather

Sorceress of hello poetry
She posesses powers that pull me back
To a dark world of desires and fantasy

Late at night to her page I sneak
Seeking power and a lover's  dreams
Her words my talisman of luck

With every line she drops
A spell veils my senses
Filling my mind with steamy clips
Of us in a world of two

Smoking my senses in her couldron of words
She got me believing those magic words
Giving in to her

She is a witch
She drafts her words skillfully
She conjures the sweetest feelings
And incarntations

That I  chant and accept
And love and comment
Every day that I rise
On her illusionary wings
Feeding on her magic mushroom

Sorceress of Hello Poetry
With your stupefying allure
I lose the sense of time
And keep reading your rhyme

Till morning finds me wasted
And I am thrown back to reality
Against my wishes

Teach me to cast love spells
And I will guard you
When witch hunters come

SMILE
andrew juma Jan 2016
Smile
Give someone a smile today
It is better than a promise
And an act of charm
better than a red rose

Its being able to see light
In darkness
And light up on your face
It is delightful
A gesture you are in control

Smile
It is acknowledging love
smile If you love
Or are capable of love
It is showing strength inside

Smile
Disarm your enemy
Frustrate your haters
flex those lips and smile
Get the fair lady

Smile in the morning
And claim a beautiful day
Smile is the perfect make up
If you seek beauty,smile

It gestures a rich heart
Oozing confidence
Lets light up the world
With a smile

Lets all put a smile on someones face today
Go on and smile :-)
Man can never lack a reason to smile

Love Is All
andrew juma Jan 2016
I have a vision of hope
For all  souls that yearn and are never sated
Those led astray by the world's misgivings
In the prime of their lives
I have the panacea

For all that despair
Who've watched their conscience stollen from them,
Their minds programmed negatively
With sadistic teachings

Leaving them craving for wealth and power
And then they can shed all the blood
till they fulfill their desire
I have a formula

I have a dream for change
To start the  conversation
Write the poem that will break  barriers
Unify all humanity
And begin transformation

Remind a brother of his mate
Living in the gutter
Turn all daggers into kitchen knives
And security budget to relief budget

Come join me on my revelatory path
We can achieve equality for all
We can cease all wars
Morality is engraved in everyone

Every person has some light in him
They might be murderous
A nightwalker's nightmare
But there is hope

We can turn on the lightswitches in their hearts
With love
Everyone lets give it a whirl today...
Love is all
Love is all we need to change the world

Necessary Evil
andrew juma Jan 2016
Coldness wraps around me
My heart in the lonliest place, weak and needy
My strength sipping away fast

"It is becoming rather expensive
To afford faith and hope"
The anguish inside me speaks
Dispicable voices confuscate me

my strength was once enough to choke a horse
Witty and skillful everyday
But these are the days of evil
A darkness no one could fathom

How can I win against my enemy
When I have not won against me
These voices, these double minds; fear

So depressing that I cant throw a punch against me
The world gets colder
Wickedness spreads and no one bothers

Everyone used to be a brother
Before little girls were bought in brothels
And ****** in the streets became a habit

I survived, I have fought
I have saved a few from the Grim Reaper in the dead of the nights
The siren of ambulances a soundtrack
Of my necessary evils

I am getting ****** in
Losing my soul to what I stand against
In the pitch dark nights
Where I become jury and judge

Now I cant do it anymore
Not on my own
Lord I need you
The world is getting colder
What if in the process of rooting out evil we become evil, and play to the devil's tune?

Tears Of A Man
andrew juma Jan 2016
I have seen you whistling past the grave yard
Nose up in the air
Your tears invisible
Others think you are invincible

I see you from the inside
Yours are tears of blood
You keep it all inside
You are the anchor of a hope
You may not even have

Never show your hurt
Is what your fathers taught
You have tried your best
Persevered without a sound
Kept calm in the storm

Drip drip drip let them flow
It is okay to exhale
Breath out the pain
let the hurt wash away

find a quiet corner
Embrace your pain
And let them trickle
The tears of blood
Unless he be strong enough, they will never cry.

come back sweet love
andrew juma Jan 2016
Under the coconut trees at the coast
Sweet memories haunt me
Its your love I am missing
And my heart is aching

the cool breeze blows from the ocean
This is where we sat
Where you whispered in my ear those words
And assured me I will be the only one
How I miss you!

We crafted romance in the sand
We could not get enough
So we planned forever
Now I am left with memories
Under the coconut trees

The warmth of your embrace
The silly games on the beach
Those are days I  cherish
Come back sweet love

Im sorry if I hurt you
Come back to who loves you
I will treasure you like a diamond
We'll share these sweet memories

And make love again
Under the coconut trees.

Huba lako kulikosa
Yaumiza moyoni

Upepo  kutoka baharini
Tulipoketi ukininong'onezea
Sikioni kwamba ni mimi tu
Kwamba utanipenda
Tukichora zetu mchangani
Aaah, nyakati za raha hizo!

Ukaniliwaza mtima
Tukapanga mipango ya milele
Nabakia kutafuna utamu
Wa kumbukumbu tu
Chini ya mnazi bandarini
Nikilemewa maradhi ya moyo

Filamu ya huba letu akilini
Tukicheza ufukoni
Penzi ndio madini ninayokosa mwilini
Kama kosa ni langu najuta
Usinkwepe rejea nakwita

Nitakuenzi nikutunze almasi
Tulitwae tunda la penzi nawe
Tulichovye buyu la asali

In My Daddy's Eyes
andrew juma Jan 2016
At age 2
In my daddy's eyes I saw a fortress
A pillar of protection
The monsters in my bed feared him

At  age 4
In my daddy's eyes i saw
A world spinning with seas of love and mountains of hope
the reflectiom of me
Was a precious jewel

At age 5
In my daddy's eyes I saw a hero
The fruitful productive provider
His voice of resonance an assurance
As he lifted me up and made me giggle

At age 8
In my daddy's eyes I saw
My confidant
Many stories he inspired me with
Teaching me lessons of life
As he taught me how to ride a bike

At age 10
My dad was nowhere to be found
Mum wouldnt tell me where he went
She said 'it' was complicated
I still loved him wherever he was

At age 15
my television was my dad
Teaching me all dirt
My world was spinning with despair and rejection
Adolescense  was tough
Fantasising on Jlo's ****
I understood that he ran away

At age 17
I found an older girlfriend
After many rejections with the younger ones
I forgot about my dad
But when I remembered him I resented him
I missed looking into his eyes

At age 19
I remembered his lessons of life
'Money is not everything'
'If you dont get what you want,
you didnt really want it'
I didnt want to become like him

At age 20
10 years with my mother alone
And here he is standing at our door
Looking like a drenched fowl
'you have grown so tall'

Im now 20 dad
and you must be kidding
10 years and that is your first line?
I want him to go
Mum takes him in
And forgets all her hurt

I corner him at the dinner table
You are a coward dad, why did you run away
He can't even look me in the eye
Mum speaks on his behalf
"Its gonna be okay Dre"

At age 21
Deep inside i hurt
Why did you leave us?
Son, you dont understand
Sometimes you have to leave those you love the most
If you care for them

Still at 21
I cant stay anymore
I move in with my other girlfriend
This one is young and hot
The older one taught me 'game'
Dad doesnt make sense

Later in life
I swear to be a better father
But i come to realize that
Dad was the better father

I see with his eyes that sometimes you have to leave those you love the most
If you care for them

Even though they might never understand...

Swahili Is Charming
andrew juma Jan 2016
This is where the-
Spaceship of poetry has landed me
English  is beautiful a color to  paint with
But Swahili is the breast milk
A mother's breast is sweetest
be it canine

English was crafted with unique abilities
Expressions smooth like whiskey
Words that connect to the soul
God really blessed the language

I am grateful that I can write
Construct like engineers and designers
God endowed humans the ability to create
But only  poets can create with words

I turn to Swahili now
To feed  hearts with its-
Charming soulfood
From planet to planet
As my spaceship of poetry traverses worlds

I thank God for the talent
And my journey He will guide me
My destination to be the shinning star
Twinkling the beauty of literature

To shine like Venus in the morning
is my desire
To love you dear Poetry
And embrace you in Swahili and English

To feel you in every way
And inspire hearts of humanity
This is the English version of the previous poem

Kiswahili Kirembo
andrew juma Jan 2016
Hapa ndipo umenifikisha
Umalenga na ujopo
Wa kiingereza tulimudu
lakini kiswahili kitamu
**** la mama litamu
Hata liwe la mbwa

Kimombo kilaini majineno
Kama mayai ya johari
Kuangaza mitima halaiki
Namshukuru Rabuka
Kwa talanta ya kuandika

Tukaumba kwa maneno
Waumbaji nikawaunga
Kama yeye Mungu,
Nguvu za maneno kat'tunukia

Uwezo wa karana hii
Kuwateka akilizo
Nyika na mito kuwavusha
Hadi sayari za ndoto zao
Uswahilini narudi mie
Kitamu kwelikweli

Nashukuru Maulana
Kipaji nilipata
Naye ataniauni
Dau langu lifike kilindini
Nitue kileleni

Niangaze kama Zuhura
Hapa ndipo nimefika
Umalenga na ujopo
N'taukumbatia milele
Kwa Kiswahili na kimombo

Mitima zao kusisimua.

music of the sun
andrew juma Jan 2016
There were nights when the wind blew hard
The earth was a cold world
The godess of art was cruel

She'd **** all of earth's melodies up in her
It was empty and  quiet below
Echoes reverberated in the caves of the earth

Man was lonely
In a lonesome world
Looking up the stary sky
Left without a sound

Dreaming.
Every one was dreaming
Mountains and hills were sleeping
Life without music

man below
Listened to the bellowing of  emptiness
Every activity was boring

The earth was life without poetry
The world knew no music
The birds composed no tweets

Life without inspiration
Man lived in desparation
Man lacked a sound

There was a time
The wind felt for the  earth
And conspired with the moon
To steal some notes and stanzas from the Sun

To create a sound for lovers at night
And encourage despairing soldiers
So birds can praise their creator

But the sun was guarded by the cruel godess
The wind blew over the moon
And polished its surface

The moon shone the sun's art
The wind blew over the moon in delight
Taking the music with it

It blew among trees and whistled
The birds got the jingles
They looked up to the sky
And sang

The wind blew over the oceans
The waters composed melodious waves

The sleeping earth woke
The dreaming man sang
The power of art possesed him

Lovers found an afrodisiac
Worriors remembered a song of victory
Life returned to earth

The angry godess got jealous
She began to corrupt music with hatred
Breaking the heavenly laws

So she was thrown down
by the Mighty One
And lost her music.

There Is A Land
andrew juma Jan 2016
In the lands yonder
Beyond the thrones of Europe
and the bustle of the West

There is a land
It is quiet and peaceful
The sun shines everyday
The people are black

In the lands yonder
Beyond the industrial buzz and dense smoke
There are a peaceful people in a land

Its rivers traverse the lands
From one end to the other
Its waterfalls are wondrous
Its caves adventurous

There is the land
Whose people dont worry
Their simplicity is baffling
They never hurry

There is the land
Whose people sit on gold mines and diamonds unexploited
There is more to life for these people

From days of old
They understood the balance of nature
Before Carl's nomenclature

In the lands yonder
Snow caps mountain tops
Elephants and Buffalloes run the Savannahs
Wildebeests migrate in wonder
In the lands yonder

The birds sing in hapiness
The lions roar in jungles
The lands are rich
The peoples cultures are rich too

They were once thought dunders
Plans were made to invade and plunder
Those were the worst blunders

They fought for equality
They fought for their rights
Adowa 1896
Apartheid 1994
MauMau 1954, and more
They died for their land

This is the land of peace
This is the land of wealth
And nature's bounty
This is Africa
Proud to be an African

I still love you
andrew juma Jan 2016
The sun was just attempting
To break free off the holds
Of the eastern horizon
Feable orange rays streaming in

And i was struggling
To break free from your confection enfoldment
Daybreak shouldnt  find me here

Your warmth, your gentle touch was so ensnaring last night
Your voice filled with so many secrets
Was the soundtrack of my night enslavery

to the plecantero rendezvous
That will remain between you and me
Though we are not supposed to be

You were whispering to me
How last night blew your mind
And now you wanted the tape to rewind

Where was your man?
I didnt care then...
Last night  you invited me in
I remember you standing at the door
In a blue lingerie...

"Baby I got to go."
But you wouldnt let me
"Stay for a minute longer"
You worked your magic
And i didnt need convincing

My mouth given a taste of the forbidden
The guilt turning to exhiliration
We were lost in oblivion
And then he came In

I didnt hear the door turning
I didnt hear his soldier boy boots on the floor
But i saw him standing over us.

you held on to me, was it fear?
Bewitched to not see his tear
And the hatred in his eyes
You told him you'd made up your mind

that was your welcome home
to the soldier lover boy
Who had been walking all night
Knowing you would be waiting

the heart wants what it wants
You wanted love
and warmth in the cold nights
The love i gave, but was illegal

When he lifted up his pistol
Saying he cannot accept competition
Especially from 'this bug'
I never thought it would be lethal

He decided i should live
But both of us should miss you
I dived for his gun and we struggled
Two strayed into your head
And that was the end of him too

The illegal love blew your mind
Daybreak shouldnt have found me there
I remember it all
Your whispers
blood all over like a ritual

The lethal love
The illegal love
But i still love you
To me you are never dead

Old Age
andrew juma Dec 2015
Like an octopus it engulfs and enfolds one
Squeezing youthfulness out of bones
the enthusiasm to live takes flight

Your feet start TO betraY you
And you can not trust your vision any more
Music  turning to noise

the ogre called Old age
It spares no one
Live and be happy now

Be strong if you have to face it
It cannot attack a cheerful heart

Be happy  in the evening of your days
Looking back at your legacy
For it lives lifetimes and lifetimes
Live and be happy

For the Lord my God
andrew juma Dec 2015
Let songs of praise
Rise from my soul
For the Lord my God
this year end

His warmth His love
gives reason to live
His voice in my ear
a wise counsel all year

2015 to Him was like
A short hour in the night
Now it is done
gone for ever

Fill my heart
With your mercies
and love
Let me rejoice

Like times of old
When you crowned me with gold
And everything two fold

In 2016
bring us happiness
Like Sweet sixteen
and i will sing
To you in daily routine

Songs of praise will spring up
From my soul depths
For the Lord my God
All year round

sleep
andrew juma Dec 2015
You lovely intruder
You come padding softly
halting all operations
With your soft whispers
to follow you

To follow you to where you take us
In the chill dark nights
You float us on a sea of
Calmness

Whispering "Sleep
It will be alright
Tomorrow"
our minds drift away to you
Bodies relax and find rest

Surrendering to your hypnosis
and longing for the touch of your deft fingers
To massage away days
Of hardwork

relishing in gratification
Of wishes in the possibility
You create in dreams;
shortening ours in
the still late nights

You comes  peacefully
creeping comforting tendons
Over mind body and spirit

The three finally agree
Slowly drifting in a sea of  lazy calmness
admitting surrender to this
serenity you bring along

For everybody to feel better tomorrow
kings and  paupers
all yearn for your sweet waters

What magic do you tap
In rejuvenating tired souls?
Healing sorrows
So hearts are better tomorrow

My questioning mind finally gives in
failure to understand who you are
But i like your voice when you come

Whispering "sleep,
tomorrow it will be alright"
tonight give  me the best of you
In your sea of serene calmness

I am your every desire
I inspire hearts
With words
I want to build up hope

I want to use the power of words
To share happiness
I am the Voyage for your minds

A journey to the past if you want
Give you the best of the present
and also a glimpse of the future

I will make you share in the glory of legends
The power of gods
And the happiness of birds

Fly with me
If you appreciate me
I will come into your heart
And fill it with bliss

Until my last stanza  granting your wish
a kind of peace and
elegance you will crave for

When i put the last mark
On my last line
many still come in my family line
I just never die

Just call my line

A Soldier's Heart
andrew juma Dec 2015
the sun burns red in the west
The  lovers meet in secret
Following their hearts
in the cropping darkness

It is big and brave
For the passionate lover
He would hand it to her love tonight
Hoping that she would cherish it

Even  when he will be away
She gives him hers
Tells him "be strong and intact
Return safe my love
I will be waiting for you"

The heart,
That little body part
habouring all issues
Makes all decisions

The heart,
it strengthens the soldier
in the battle front
Singing to him songs of courage
Reminding him of his sweet love at home

Love from the heart is true  and  passionate
Its different from lust
and  is bound to last

The battle is love
Even though the war is different
He kills for love
she is the only thing in mind

She  gets broken a few times
taunted  by sociopaths
Telling her  'they will never come back"
She has waited for times and times

But the heart stands all the tests
Most of the times

The heart that
lordship of mind and body
Guides everyody

Decisions of the heart
You can trust

He thinks with the mind for tact
but nomatter what
He follows  his heart;
even though he is bruised and hurt

The mind fills him with doubt
but the heart tells him  to fight
Reminds him of heroes
and sweet love-making
Turns him to a matador

the eyes give him sight
but the heart fills him with insight
Hugging him tight
it neutralises his fright
He marches right

Into enemy territory
She is barely making through
They think she should remarry
News of fallen soldiers  devastates her heart

Man's strength is from within the heart
Courage is not from spears
Not arrows and swords...
That small body part!

Emperors and conquerors
Lovers and soldiers listen
Fathers and Mothers
They listen to the heart

He creates  devastation
Wrecking the enemy camp
As his battalion joins in
His heart moulding him
Into a hero

That small body part
Endures all in patience
As she waits
Saying its never late

...a  time of jubilation
Victory cries are heard
Those back are few
But they removed the enemy
By conviction of their hearts

He is a legend
The man after everyone's hearts
She is joyous
As she runs into his embrace

The heart
That small body part
Endured it all

A soldier's heart...
Listen to the heart. It speaks in that small voice within.

Oh Universe!
andrew juma Dec 2015
Oh universe
How you sustain all lives
Is so marvellous

Mother Nature
You constant watcher
You are not a quitter

The seas know their space
The sun sets in the west
And never loses that course

The trees  cleanse the air
Herbs with sweet smelling fragrance
And wild honey tastes so sweet

Oh universe
How do you manage this
With so many of us?

The hogs eliminate snakes
The pests  feed on wastes
Vultures take care of  dead carcasses

We all look to you when we need food
You provide it
We eat it

Every one of your dependants
Know their expectations
In  selfregulation
The eater and the eaten

Life never ceases
It only changes form
Rotting plants become humus
And sustain growing plants

Edible animals become part of man
man's DNA lives on in their descendants...
And then man grew a few beards

With his advancements
Interfering with all others
Breaking laws
Creating disaters

In the eco
thick smokes of toxic
chemicals that destroy flora and fauna
Massive deforestation

and then he turns to you
expecting you to produce
When he ploughs your soils
Looking up to the clouds

You used to give a ****
But now you feed them back their poison
And their lives shorten

Retribution for being stubborn
And interfering with you
Mother nature

You heard them talking of space exploration
Look for life in another planet as solution
You just laughed

They think that they can destroy you
And leave for another planet
You are the only One

Blessed among the stars
To sustain lives
They will come running to you
Like the prodigal son

And maybe the rebellious
Shall have learnt a few lessons

Oh Universe
Its so fabulous
that you sustain all lives
Lets all conserve and preserve the environment, from it we derive.

The Prayers Of Mama
andrew juma Dec 2015
She loved the place ,
She approached the dais,
Went on her knees,
the Lord to appease,

Old angels graffiti on walls,
Burning Candles ,
Sweet smelling incense,
Mama prayed,

She wanted success,
She prayed for peace,
We were such a mess,
But she lit up on her face,

Days on end,
Incantations would never end,
Hailing God,
Our lives to amend

Mama please...
How long?
'A day will come...
we will be alright'
She prayed for long,

Images staring in benevolence,
Faces with same old expressions ;
mosaic long beards
candles burning yellow

No miraculous quails
she prayed for days
"Arent you tired of this?"
But she lit up on her face...

Like she knew something i didn't
Maybe she had made a covenant
She was just exuberant

she spent each day like lent,
We didnt afford rent,
we were worth few cents,
So friends just went-

away from a lonely believer,
With a God of many followers,
None wanted borrowers,
Mysery for us,

From 9th to 1st,
None would fast,
But she loved and cared for us,
Every night she would say
'A day will come,'

Days and years went by,
Many struggles we lived by,
devil courting day by day,
Offering alot for souls to buy,

      'Stick to your faith'
        'Tell  the truth'
         'place God fast'
          She taught,

Underneath the trees,
As i watched the skys,
In those drought days,
I spotted  feathery clouds,

Light showers,
To storms and hails ,
Of everything she had prayed for,
Came down,

He answered,
The prayers of Mama
Mama's prayers got us going. She never quit.

steps in life
andrew juma Dec 2015
When i was a kid
I did all i could
Till i crawled

Even though others walked
I struggled till i crawled

After i crawled,
I knew i had to walk

I worked every early
Step fall step,
step fall
Baby steps

As others ran
I concetrated on mine
Get these feet together

and roll, i rolled on
from walking, to running
To jumping

One at a time
No engineering of sort
To help me overpass a step

With zest i moved 1,2 next
With faith
And patience

Let them that fly fly
Let them that walk walk
Let everyone mind their step

2 IN THE MORNING
andrew juma Dec 2015
2 in the morning,
Floating in a space of dreams
Some are fresh others serial..

What i cannot achieve in my days
I can achieve in my dreams
In the silent nights

I become telepathic and telekineticise-
my form to a superhuman
It feels terrific

Turn to a kite and fly away
Time travel to a future day

Taste every feeling
Become anything i feel like

destroy my enemy with a wish
Appear and disappear in a flash

Im dreaming "what if dreams are realities,
and realities are dreams,"

2 AM in the morning,
Im climaxing in the other world...
You might hear grunts often

...feasting on these
Superabilities
Inspiring my future

If i prove myself good,
She might return tomorrow night

If i work hard for her,
She might come true in real life

But most a time,
she remains to be just a sweet dream

so that I will keep dreaming
At 2 in the morning
Dreams are not just dreams, but i cannot convince how

MEMORIES
andrew juma Dec 2015
darkness starts to fade
A time to get out of bed

she comes to me six  in the morning,
****** fragrance wafting,

eyes smokey, voice caramelized,
her gaze  making me hypnotized

arousing desires in the deepest places,
A tell of temptations

A godess,
That leaves you wordless

Her small ******* like a bunch of wild dates
Lips dripping wet

Inviting me in her tropical jungle
Blackberries ready for pluck

Her curvy thighs my delight
tantalizing piece of art

Sprawled over my bed
telling me she is mine

Unlocking secret pleasurables
free of all wearables

the golden old
tales of good times

a part of the past
That pops up in the future

And when youve grown old
You'll  say "the good old times...'

She will always visit from the past,
Feeling you with lust

Memories
Sweet memories are really sweet

word pottery
andrew juma Dec 2015
Hey, i want to speak with honesty,
I dont know what i would do without poetry,

Feel like i won a lottery,
all because of word pottery,

a mind free is all,
expressing secrets from the soul,

With a careful craft of the beat,
music is born from the art,

Therapy in psychiatry,
aesthetic in  phylosophy ,

People  love and fight,
Some just live to hate,

oppositions and dominions,
Opinions and religions,

But poetry and music lives,
lifetimes and lifetimes with love,

and nomatter the weather
it shall always bring humanity together

Life Goes Round
andrew juma Dec 2015
Day and night life spins around,
By and by round and round,
Today youre up tomorrow youre down

your blonds say 'see you around'
never stay on the ground
Find  the voice, the sound,

Inside you strength you'll find,
have a positive mind,
Now i will remind...

..you, you survived,
you conquered
Be proud

Stand tall,
Get your back off the wall
You are not done at all

Cuz night and day life spins around,
by and by round and round
today you are down...

...tomorrow you are up
So get up!
Just dont give up.
It doesnt matter how many times you fall but wether you get up is what really counts
