Somewhere cold, a
Hot crimson balloon ascends
Amongst the concrete and rebar.

It rises to the glistening roof
Then bursts. The kids saw
It rise, but not its fall.
A poem about fame.
#5 in the Distant Dystopia anthology.

I woke today with a hole in my heart wishing you were still here.
Time was supposed to make things easier but it gets harder for me each and every year.
Today we should be celebrating you birthday but instead I woke from my dream and had to face fact.
The fact that your not here with me, and knowing you're never coming back.
Not a day since you left to join the Angels in the sky,
That I haven't needed you or sat alone to cry.
I know I'll see you someday soon
You're not here to celebrate your birthday daddy so I'm sending you up one balloon.
When it goes through all the clouds and straight to heaven for you.
You will find your birthday card attached that reminds you every day how much your loved and how I've missed you too.
Happy Birthday up in heaven Daddy, love you baby girl

I find...
I,
enjoy making fun
of myself
...
pulling out my flaws
and
like colorful balloon animals,
twisting them
into wacky creations
shapes
to laugh at

-Not me
the flaw
to see how silly I can
be

But what scares me
is,
does this
hint
at another flaw
I
seem
to
have?
Hmm...stanza three seems to be contradictory.

The stars will all align for you.
Fly to them in a red balloon.
You can end up there.
I do so dare.

For you to fly to the farthest star.
Found in a red balloon you are.
Dare you to live in the stars.
In a red balloon you are.

This is more than an obsession.
Make it your life time mission.
Throw me a kiss from the farthest star.
It could be here or far.

The stars are our gift to you.
This is whether you feel, sad, happy, or blue.
In the sky there is a star named just for you.
If only we could all travel to the sky in a red balloon.

Up here you have a better view.
All your dreams will shape around you.
Whether you are going across country or the whole world.
Can I grab a kiss from you girl.

So, as we travel to the stars;
Remember who you are.
Whether you are here or far.
Ride to the farthest star.
For someone special

My thoughts float.
Like a stray balloon
wind swept from a child’s hand.

Once tied to my
rope burned wrist.
But removed by life
ever so swift.

I hope for just
a bit more time.
That thought I had
now gone from my mind.

My thoughts float.
Like a stray balloon
wind swept from a child’s hand.
Cherish your thoughts

In the sky with the birds, with the clouds and their kisses
The sunlight envelopes her in a kaleidoscope of hues.
Soaring, dancing, floating, swooping.
Freedom.
Bubbles in her chest, patterns of excitement on her face.
She is whole.

POP! And she comes crashing down,
With chains around her, until she fights and flies again.

The stars are heralds
Let pained thoughts fall with the rain
A red balloon flies
Looking out to the garden again. Slightly drizzling and I can see a red balloon rise to the sky.

I wonder what it’s like to be a balloon.

I wonder what it’s like to be let go in the middle of the night.

I wonder what it’s like to float until I become one of the stars.

I wonder what it’s like to become so indistinguishable that I disappear.

I wonder what it’s like to ascend through the atmosphere so independently and infinitely high.

I wonder what it’s like to drag that coarsely iridescent ribbon to those heights.

I wonder what it’s like to succumb to the pressure inflicted on my epidermis, causing me to suddenly pop.

I wonder what it’s like to feel that reverberating ripple across my skin as I disperse into handfuls of geometric tears.

I wonder what it’s like to float so high, unrecognizable, only to fall apart.

I wonder how painful it is to be a balloon.

I wonder what it’s like to be a balloon.

Backstory time... I was in Disneyland on the evening I wrote this, waiting for the nighttime fireworks. A child must have let go of his or her balloon because there it was, flying through the air... My first thought was, “That little white balloon probably cost the parents $15-$20...”. My second thought was, “I wonder what it’s like to be a balloon...”. So... I wrote this.

I could tell you that you were enough to hold me down,
Like a weight you'd tie a couple of balloons on,
Steadily letting gravity caress me to it's surface,
Wondering if I’ll ever touch the moon.
I’m a little balloon weighted by the gravity that I did not ask for.
