a
you had a green thumb,
planting rose after rose.
but when you grew bored,
a tulip would show.
her stem was too short,
her smell did grow hazy
so not long after that,

you planted this daisy.

I thought I was special,
I thought I was yours.
until I saw you water
that daffodil *****.
(shoutout to the daffodil who ****** my boyfriend)

oh my stars
Lie
My poisonous lips lock
With his beauty,
I restrain the tears-
Imprisoning them behind bars of a happy façade.
But they are not criminals.
It is my smile that is guilty.
I utter the three words he wants to hear
And smile
While my heart writhes
In pain
As I lie.
I'm sorry

oh my stars
just because i no longer kiss the universe that is in your heart
it doesn't mean that it's not there any more.

just because i now see stars within the depths of his eyes
it doesn't mean that yours aren't still full of them.

just because i do not touch your skin any more
it doesn't mean you don't still feel like the solar system.

just because i no longer love you
it doesn't mean that you are any less brilliant.

you are still wonderful.
do not value my feelings for you above your personality

oh my stars
we are just two broken shadows
clinging to each other
desperate to love and be loved
we find solace in one another
equally hurt and destroyed
we have both witnessed the destruction of our own hearts
seen them obliterated into thousands of pieces
littering our souls with pain
but together we will survive.
i love you
i'm so glad that i have him in my life

We are always falling
in hopes of finding something better
below,
but there are times we discover nothing more
than the concrete ground
and the shame of believing
there would always be someone out there
waiting to catch us

the first
innocent to the core, a
stolen love through
the words
of my brothers

the second
long after had only loved
for an exact amount,
none left to give
after a deadline was met

the third
a stupid drunken night
resulted in a quick
disgrace
of my decisions

the fourth
stuck needles where he
shouldn't have, a
heavy river spilling
on the rocks
and ghostly waters

the rest had no love to give
only advice to spare, a
game lost, a game
won,
all in the same vein
stupid little poem for stupid little tears

I dissected a heart today,

and it wasn't for science.

I shattered your being

and bathed in your silence.

Your innocent is what

became your downfall,

because you believed

innocence lied within all.

You found joy in the

love of twos,

but my joy came in

destroying you.

You find joy in love

and all its parts,

I find joy in bleeding hearts.

I found this poem saved in my drafts from when I still wrote poems in rhymes.

We said goodbye after what
felt like just moments after
we had said hello,
for even though months
had passed,
we had both always done
our best not to
share too much.

Although I have gone to great lengths
mastering how to be aloof,
in that moment I
regretted so much my inability
to emote.

"You make it seem so easy,"
he breathed,
his face welling with discontent,
and I kissed him on the cheek
as I whispered,
"I'm good at making things
look easy."

He had the sweetest demeanor,
and my body trembled
in the gentle strength and
aggressive tenderness with which
he kissed me,
a passionate, bittersweet
exchange, as we became aware
that it might be for the
last time.

I've become so good at
being alone that I had not
even pondered how I might
actually miss him
once he was gone.

I think my lack of visible reaction
hurt him, but I
couldn't bring myself to be
vulnerable, to let down
my guard and tell him
that knowing we were
parting ways made my
insides ache in the most
unexpected and terrifying way.

Maybe we weren't ever
meant to be anything;
that was my thought from
the jump.
But when he looked me in my eyes,
his heart was so pure,
and I yearned to touch
my soul to his.
I settled for combing my nails
through his curly hair
and murmuring sage words,
masking the things I refused
to feel.

He sent me on my way with
his favorite record, and I said
the most unscripted thing I ever had
to him,
that I'd always think of him
when it crackled and popped.

The kindness of what he extended to me,
the vulnerability I saw in his
beautiful, youthful eyes,
the way he softened his tough exterior,
it ate at me the whole drive home
as I cursed myself for being
so cold
and wishing I could kiss him
one last time.

I still haven't been able to
shed a tear, my heart too
frozen to thaw,
but as the Ray Charles
erupts from my speakers,
I stick to my word;
I think of him,
and I ponder on the possibilities
should we cross paths again.

Should that moment never come,
I can still find him
in the words of my poems
and hear him in the
rifts of his record, so I guess, for me,
it wasn't really
"goodbye."

It's funny,
He thought to himself.
As the stubble on his chin grew
ever more coarse.
He had shaved it, of course,
to gain some sort of traction in his life,
to contain some sort of control.

Does he really have it?
Ultimately, he'd probably answer no,
but that has never stopped him anyway.

He still has her picture up in his room.
It's funny, because he realizes that he just realized this.
Yet he's so ready to let go.

He turned to whatever he could to wash away the her
he had created in his mind,
whatever felt good.
Be it ****, *******, alcohol, whatever...
It never made him feel "better".
He called it his "tantrum".
That made it fit to the letter.

And then it was over.
As if scales had fallen from his eyes,
and he saw everything for what it was,
and for who she was.

And thank the Good Lord,
he felt at peace again.
Breakups is hard, especially when you have a massive jumble of emotions that you don't know what to do with, and even if you did the whole "splitting up portion" yourself, if you love someone, that's hard.
I guess what I came to realize is that I loved my perception of someone, not the someone I was with... or I didn't love her in the way I thought I did. So there's that.

I breathe in the smell of you,
And lose sense of place and time.
A drug that sold me into rehabilitation.

I know you're not what I need,
And you're not what I want.
A square peg for a rounded hole,
You don't fit my new form.

I wish you did.
I wish you would.

Intoxicated by the aroma of the past,
Incensed in innocence,
We both thought we needed to save each other.
Or were we just hallucinating?

Were we getting high on the fumes,
From our little hearts smoldering?
Or did it not hurt you,
When the flames began to spread?

I'm sick because I love that smell,
A smell that can ****,
And I wanted it to.

Breathe in,
Forget the tears that put it out.
Breathe out,
Remember her glow in the light.

Breathe in,
Forget your new identity
Breath out,
Remember her touch in the dark.

I breathe in the smell of you,
And lose sense of me and mine.
My drug that opens all the wrong doors,
And shuts all the right ones.

So I'll take another drag if you want me to,
And you can watch how I writhe.
I don't mind being on fire,
Just go to hell with me.
