Our love was like a library
Everything inside us was used
And outdated
We were constantly shutting
Each other up
And when we finally did talk
We discovered ourselves
Long checked out
Ellie Grace Dec 2019
We held so much promise in our youth
Believing that together, we could change the world
It was a time before the darkness had settled into both of our bones.
Before pain had found a home inside our chests.
We were just two people searching for something more
Some grander purpose.

It wasn’t until much later,
With the consequences of the years that followed on our shoulders
That we realised,
Instead of changing the world
We lit a match
And watched it burn
We weren't the heroes after all

Siamese twins
Conjoining

Kissing cousins
Interlocking

Kindred souls
Connecting

You and I
Uniting

One flesh
Power of two

Second choice?
You?
Are you crazy?
Are you blind?
Look in the mirror
and tell me a fool
who would take that
as his second choice.
Yes, tell me the fool
who would cherish
that heart of yours
a mere second to
that of another.
I want to know this fool,
so I can take pity on
his misguided soul.
Second choice-
spare me!

The flowers you gave me turned to darts. So I took them in hand and proceeded to throw them at all your other lovers' hearts. Hit them I did, directly in the center. Steady bullseye. But they didn't die. Those wounded hearts turned to a pack of wolves and chased you into the nearest wood. It's there they devoured every last part of you -- your could, would, and should. Eaten up by your own pretty lies. A fitting way to say our final goodbyes. Fallacy was a refreshing pool you employed to hoodwink. And so we'll gladly spread your ashes over this drink.

Adrift
Bereft
I'm shipwrecked without you

Broken and foundering
Can't let go
I won't let go

What remains is more
Than a keepsake
It's a lifetime together

Treasures that sparkle
Like the sunbeams
At noontide

Where children and dreams
Befriended
Splash and play

The boat to shore is slipping
From its mooring and I'm
But one grasp away from losing it

I must first breathe
Then summon a strength
To sail on

Such departure is agony
An anguish rending
My heart in two

I can give nothing but words
You can no longer hear
A touch you cannot feel

But I offer them
Without reserve
A declaration of love

A betiding of elegies that somehow
Must suffice as
Our ill-timed parting

A remnant of us
An ember of this love
Will burn

Like flares
And light up the sky
Into the unknown

For now I must go
My pilgrimage for shore
In pieces and alone

Remembering I've only
Lost you to your rest
Until a morning awakening

Oh, what solace
Adieu, my love
Sleep well

When this condensation locates your skin and runs like the Orinoco from its Andean peak, wandering over you at a composed, but covetous pace, exploring several variances of possibility at once, seeking your chemical reaction to whet lest it evaporate, I ponder over such showering of inanimate affection, all in the hope you will summon me from a docked eidolon and into your water, in partnership with the effusive sail -- learned of geography, triggered by chemistry.

The glint in your eyes
When I cupped your moons
Was only a prelude
To the gravitational pull
Between two heavenly bodies
Finally untethered
From the chains
Of solitary confinement

Say it now
Before the verbal amputation
And issue of an apology for
Three little words
Expressed from the heart
Given freely
Never to take back

But a world around us
Scrutinizes our every move
Smacking on the hand
When we've done the unthinkable
And said something
Against their liking

Take it on the chin
Take it in the eye
They can't keep us
From how we truly feel
Mitch Prax Dec 2019
The bad thing about
happy endings is that they're
always at the end
