Her story doesn’t hold up in the light,
she spent her life losing every fight.
Shadows were more of a friend than a foe,
though without the light, she always stubbed her toe!
She was quick to blink when the light shone too bright,
Kept her eyes shut until the brightness faded regaining their sight.
She was made to believe she couldn’t handle the light,
Couldn’t blame her, the nights were her delight.
She hung around with worms that glowed from their bums,
her tears and pain they would always numb.

The vaults of heaven shot illegal fireworks through the celestial skies, mysteries of the universe with her eyes shut still gave her butterflies.
He looked at her like she was the brightest light he had ever seen,
jars of light guided his heart to a love that had never been.

In the shadows with her eyes closed tight,
he whispered to her, ‘I’m here to make it alright!’
Unsure if she can handle it, she shut ‘em tighter,
he came closer and the light only got brighter.
Her naked eye saw light for the first time,
uttering words that made no sense or rhyme.

There was a moment between his glance and their lips,
where the world stopped so they can kiss.
Her eyes spilled over into a flame,
with every tear a fool she became.
A sign of affection, an act of lust?
Kiss after kiss he turned her to dust.

Your eyes like pools of the clearest water beckon me,
beg me to drink from them.
With each blink,
their color grows warmer,
smoother, more welcoming.
I move closer, toeing the edge of your abyss,
heeding no warnings of eternal falling with the miss of a step.
The swirls of blue mirror the sky
on the most beautiful day,
mesmerizing me, hypnotizing me,
easily fooling me into stepping in
without testing the depth of your water.
My blind faith does not lead me to drown.
Instead,
your waters surround me,
wrapping me in warmth and keeping me afloat.
Each blink is a wave rocking me steady,
rhythmically, peacefully,
matching my own heartbeat,
repeating, promising an ever-continuing symphony,
a lullaby
that claims an end to my nightmares.

I once had a home.
I once could live happily.
I was once whole.
In the blink of an eye, that was all changed.
I cry now.
I am blinded by my own thoughts now.
I am someone else now.
In the blink of an eye, I was ****** into a world where nothing matters.
I now swim through life, not caring.
It's funny how the word carefree is always used positively.
My head pounds with headaches.
I force myself to keep going, not knowing why,
wanting to give up.
People see me cry sometimes.
They wonder.
They try and help.
They try their hardest to be empathetic.
They are good people.
I may live a good life.
I may have it better than many people.
Forget may, I do have a great life.
But I can't seem to forget my sadness.

Blink.

Blink the dust away.

The particles of vacancies because you didn’t stay.

The droplets of memories leaking to different shades of Monet.

Blinks.

For seconds of blackness and rests for what the soul receives

and rejects. Every time these lids fall close, it seems like thieves

will finally stop stealing dreams.

But they don’t.

Blink and blink,

Faster so the eyelashes will flutter

For the caves to open and welcome in crazed butter-

flies, before the bats chase them

through the gutter.

Blink.

Blink.

Blink.

Blink back to my dearest

unfortunately not my nearest.

Blink again for the heights of happiness.

Of the summit and fall from the crest.

Blink.
A poem I wrote two years ago as a freshman in college, thinking of my high school graduating class and how much I miss them.

I count the blinks I take.
The nights I sleep.
The smiles I make.
The words I speak.
I count every single thing,
That you happen to be missing.
As a reminder to never take for granted,
All this precious time I've been handed.
This life I've been creating?
It started when I stopped waiting.
For you.
To choose me.
In other words,
I count to remind myself I'm free.

My soul envies my eyes, my heart longs to see
Just for one moment. For my eyes have done what I
Have failed to do: held you.
How long have I looked at you laugh
And cried inside? How have I drowned
I love you
From fighting to your lips but with my tears?
And yet I strive, I yearn, I hope
You will see me and
An envious heart in your chest might revolt;
I might inspire some holy endeavour in your soul
You look into my eyes, hold my gaze

I look away
You understand now
I was too open too fast and again you know me better
All of me was in my eyes but I couldn't find your heart
I suppose it wasn't there for me to find.
The ending is what I'm most hesitant about. In life and literature.

Lashes blink in front of me
My eyes peruse the sky
Large white billows scattered
Amidst the abundant blue
I see faces, I see creatures
They peep throughout the sky
You may see bleached blobs of puff
But I see,
                 O so much more stuff...
