That word.

All we can give is one hundred and ten percent,
Or the lack of effort that we all did.
All I have left to give is the emptiness,
Of a future already behind us, so let’s give it a miss.

We are young; we are evermore.
I am the strongest with your hand in my hand.
We believed forever more that we would be pure,
But life changed us into The Devil’s man.

It began with *** and inside my head,
I had all these thoughts that I would confess,
To a woman I loved, if I ever loved any,
But life ain’t like that; lover’s are ten a penny.

They come and go and on with the show.
They say I love you like it is just a word they have heard.
All I can say is the pain that I have known,
When that word has been said to me…my God that word.

Self-sabotage

Self-sabotage; it’s all I know.
There is no way I am letting anybody get close.
Self-sabotage; it’s all I have got.
If you want my love then I will be sure to be gone.

Why try to love me?  I can’t be loved.
Why try to like me?  I have given up.
Why try to talk to me when I am mute?
Self-sabotage because I could love you.

I am a broken record who totally ignores,
Any possibility of ever being loved.
Say I am bored, when inside it burns to the core.
There is nothing in this world that is purely good.

Holding on to losing hope.
Sun still shines even when it snows.
In love with misery; happy with apathy.
So full of nothing; love being empty.

Instead of being activated
by what you hated
you got isolated,
so you wouldn't be triggered.

There were photos of
human agony on foreign streets,
bombed out buildings,
bleeding children,
and parents weeping.

Instead of getting outraged
by what you saw,
you went to your safe space,
so you wouldn't have to face
any troubling thoughts at all.

People softened the discourse,
slightly dulling the edge of the sword
they use to cut the safety cord
we call human rights.

The bad things kept happening
while you were napping comfortably.

You should have been
an exposed wire
sparking an arc of heart fires.
Instead of highlighting
that which was frightening
you went into hiding.

While those who were fighting
didn't get the option
to ignore the horror.

Busted up and ******,
tear gassed buddies bruised
while you used that excuse
of not wanting to deal with bad news
cause you might get triggered.

The world is on fire so,
melt that snowflake heart sister
and brother
we've got no time to waste
in helping each other;

Look and see these tragedies
and get motivated;
Rise up in outrage,
get ******* triggered,
and get to work son.

Cause anger gets **** done!!

i want to sound like you
so self-assured on this hazy morning
the way you use your words as i
stumble through apologies

and your hand
brushes my knee
— and all at once
i am so aware of my own breathing

i took a rest here because i couldn't sleep
but you could talk to me all day

and

if i promise not to say a word
will you stay here?
butter-voiced lullabies
guarded by apathetic tendencies
sipping from a world's best mug

lay with me and ask me
what i see in the clouds
my eyes are closed, and i paint you
a picture of us dancing up there
but when i awake you are gone
leaving me with a daisy chain
and a back ache

and maybe this is why i stay up
at least i know when you're going

there were no clouds in the sky today
i'm sorry i couldn't pay attention
maybe the sky is too bright for me
to feel like i belong

but my bed is the void of space
and it is too big for me now
it's lonely to think we're the only
intelligent life out here

but

i feel so alone, we just might be.

i feel so alone, we just might be.
i feel so alone, we just might be.

Emotions are rather complicated, I suppose
What is this irksome tickle in my heart?
It is not sadness, nor is it anger, or even grief
Not quite guilt or confliction
Perhaps a sort of blend of the two
It feels rather uncomfortable, like an itching inside
That is barely out of reach
Like a blur in the corner of my vision
But no matter how much I turn my head, I still can't see it clearly
This feeling seems to twist my stomach
And press on my heart
And pound in my mind
A constant pressure that can't be placed
I wonder if this puzzling emotion
Is something similar to emptiness
A hollowness that is unfamiliar
Sinking in a sea of scattered thoughts
Far too deep to retrieve now
And now
All I am left with
Is a perplexing feeling swirling everywhere inside me
A sort of apathy
That can't be named

It's so easy to romanticize,
slipping on that cloak
of self-loathing;
Reminiscing on those failed dalliance days.
You make me think of what might be
If I could have been someone else,
making me lonely for a rewind
back to before my trajectory slid.

I'm just one of those
tortured people
who leaves their mind on
like a light.

It's like I'm living in small moments of
Other people's happiness.
But who's really 'happy' these days?
Useless ramblings of the numbness that only seems to grow.

The night is cloudy and the stars don't shine,
The raindrops on the window are illuminated by the cold street light.
Perhaps I would be able to hear the roaring wind
but it is silenced by the tick tock of the clock on the wall.

Maybe, maybe I will write again,
Maybe, maybe I will learn to play a happy tune,
One day I'll forget elegies
And stop making these melacholy effigies

I don't really like rhyming now,
They sound too happy and are sometimes cheap.
I rather write to my poems and say, "Thou
art my biggest mystery, you're too shallow. You're too deep."

So in conclusion,
I don't know why I'm writing.
All I know in this confusion
Is that the night is cloudy and the stars don't shine,
The raindrops on the window are illuminated by the cold street light.

The clock is ticking. Tick. Tock.
The people are hollow,
The people are stuffed
leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw.
"This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but with a whimper. "

Words
Can hardly even scratch the surface of my sorrows
Words
Could never fix the aching in my heart
Or repair the damage I've done to myself
Or heal the broken parts of me
Words
Flood my mind like ocean waves
Spilling out my eyes in salty streams
Causing a pounding pressure in my head
Like a heart that I wish would stop beating
Words
May never fully express the apathy blossoming in my body
Or convey the suffocating emptiness I'm left alone with
Or ease the anxiety dancing through my veins
Words
Are just letters
And letters
Are just symbols that we throw together in attempts to bring meaning to something
So how could words
Possibly
Help me

I sit alone on the floor,
the light blinks in and out.
...or perhaps it is my eyes?
that I cast now over leftwards
to look at the doorway.
Empty, as it always is,
or is now? as it should be.

I feel as though I am floating,
no, I am grounded now.
Chained here to the floor.
My body lays like bones in the ground,
unmoving and crushed by dirt.
heavy and cloying, the smell of earth.
worms dig under my skin,
wriggling parasites in my skull.

Am I decaying? like I once wished.
my thoughts like rot, what else...
but to deteriorate into darkness.
My body lays on the floor,
a useless cadaver as it always was.
I am strung to it by some means,
my ghost lingering on the dead.
Have I not moved on yet?
