Please just let me sleep
For it is dull and I am wary
I am drowning on my tired feet
So please just let me sleep

Please just let me sleep
For I am done with the world
And all it has to offer
So please just let me sleep

Please just let me sleep
For I cannot bare another second
Being awake in the harsh light
So please just let me sleep

I thank God for another year of life, for keeping you here longer each day.

I remember as a child I would pray my heart out to keep you safe forever, “God don’t take her away from me,” I’d say.

You told me at age 50 you prayed the same “God keep me alive till she’s grown,” you’d say.

28 years later and he hasn’t let us down.

It hasn’t been the easiest of years but God please forgive me of my sins.

Not today she’d say, not today.

6 feet underground
My life turned upside down
Why have you left me here this way

1000 feet above the earth
Heaven is now my hearth
Too bad theres no one left here to pray

Gone away from those I loved
I'm here watchful from up above
Atop the clouds I listen as I lay

I prayed that you find hope inside disaster

I prayed that if disaster struck
at least maybe you learn from the inevidable

I prayed for the power to protect you
I prayed to forgiven; I failed

I prayed that I would stop worshiping you as if you hailed from the sky

I prayed to those unknown deities
I prayed they would stop taunting me with you

I prayed that maybe I would stop making wishes for you
I prayed that I would not care as much about you

I prayed that angles would stop playing tricks
I prayed their soft tongues and laughing frames would stop placing their creations upon my path like golden gifts on display

but I am on my knees and sitting still
praying that I would stop worshiping you

(you are a blessing
that I've been condemned to)

amen
Lord,
Thank you for this man
Just like I do every day
Lord,
Thank you for this man
I want him to stay
Lord,
Thank you for this man
Please . . . . Please . . . .
Don't take him
Away.
In Jesus name I pray
The Lord Giveth

I was so broken
the cracks in my heart went so deep
deeper than the ocean
all I did was sleep

I wanted to sleep my pain away
sometimes I still want to
but I don't
because im trying to better my life,
keep my **** organised,
stay away from my knifes

but last weekend I was alone
not lonely, but alone
I was connecting to my body again
nobody was there to judge the things that I did
I was laying in the grass
looking at the trees
meditating, streching, praying, painting
all the things I like to do but I'm scared to
scared that people judge me doing them

but in that moment
after the weekend reconnecting with myself
I finally felt happy
my cracks were filling up with joy
I couldn't sleep because I couldn't stop smiling

that moment
that short moment
I will never forget
I finally felt hope again
I hope that if you read this and you are almost out of hope, things do get better! I didn't believe it first but that short moment gave me so much hope. I know you can feel it too!

The rush began, they kicked him out last night,
the man can’t wait, his heart is pounding.
It’s finally happening, the day is clearer,
the man is becoming a father.

The radio chants a name in delight,
the man hears it, but is still in fright.
He rushes past the crowded place,
yearning to find his loved one’s face.

She’s exhausted,
her breathing worked up,
but she couldn’t be happier when she arrived.
The day was stressful, but she was pleased to see,
her young daughter finally.

Only one eye showed, open and clear,
but soon enough the doctors came near.
“There’s a problem miss, please take care--”,
her innocent look became a glare,
sobs are streaming,
“Please tell me she’s there!”.

The room is silent and the doctor is baffled in stare,
“Miss, your child, she’s perfectly fine, it’s you we fear.”
She felt peace in her mind.

To think she laid down the first night as my mother,
blessed to hear that I would live another.
We were happy and filled with glee,
we live to this day happily.
As obvious as it can be, ‘Pray for Her Girl’ is about my birth. My Father was told to leave at night, while my Mother was in labour. The next day came and they both saw little me!

I wanted to include this into the poem as it felt sentimental and sweet. I see the poem as a basic introduction to my life and the poems up ahead.

The radio is an important factor as my parents named one of my middle names after a song my Father had heard on the radio.

My Mother apparently was so worried about me being potentially hurt at my birth, she didn’t realise when the doctors had came in to discuss my birth, it wasn’t me who was in need of help, it was her.
I thought that it really showed how much my Mother loved me before I was born, anticipating me to come into the world. I know deep down, she always wanted a little girl, so I guess I was what she wanted at the time.
I did try to base this poem on a rather Epic form solely because I loved the storyline layout, it almost has a rather fairytale opening to the poetry book as a whole, I don’t think I’ve ever given Epic an attempt before, but I do think first time, I could do better, but it definitely came out sounding rather loving, which I think I still personally count as a win.

I'm a lone wolf,
Howling at the new moon.
Crying out a prayer,
To a god that will never hear.
Begging for a pack,
Or just another lone wolf.
But I'm destined to live in shadows,
Trapped in a cage
Of my own design.
