Shades pass me as I stand on the street,
Dark blurry unfamiliar faces,
They melt into a grand pile of dark matter,
The one I’m trying not to be a part of

And in the end, I stand alone,
On the outside only?... or on the inside as well?

You say that you love me,
but I know that isn't true,
because how could you ever love someone,
who has always lied to you.

You say that you love me,
and that you will until the world ends,
but I know that isn't true,
cause I lied when we were friends.

Please don't take it personally,
as it isn't only you,
because I lie to everyone,
and no one has a clue.

You see I have these masks,
that I put on for show,
and the face behind them,
the world will never know.

I can easily play happy,
I can easily wear fun,
The world has seen all my faces,
all except for one.

The one no one will ever want,
and the one no one ever sees,
the one with tears in it's eyes,
the one hidden with ease.

You accept all my sarcasm,
and all the jokes I tell,
but you don't seem to realize,
I'm in a personal hell.

So no, you don't love me,
but it's not your fault,
no one could ever love,
who I've locked inside  my vault.

When everyday becomes anomalous,
Amporphic, and figments mangle along,
longing for a belonging in the King's Castle,
Those of Night, tales of the unseen
mends the sublime of Day,
Myth,
thoughts no longer thoughts,
But colors, decoded into
             glyhps of gold.

Too many people,
Too many faces, and not
Enough time to breathe.

Glaring light
and white
bathtubs.
Steam and
high pitched
melodies.
Running water
spreading warmth
spreading legs.
Silky cloths
for the freshly
bathed human.
Confusion and
worried faces
all washed away
by lukewarm
bathtub water.

I wish I was simple
easy going and easy to love
I wish I could be sweet when your mad
and know just the right things to say to end a fight
mellow tempered and cool
I never want to fight with you
I am in my own way

I'm the opposite of what I wish
instead of the sweet summer breeze I am the torrential wind during a storm
and I can't just be a drizzle
I'm a downpour
I am all or nothing
I don't know how to be anything else
I've spent years trying to figure out how to be something I am not
I've tried crawling out of my skin
and forming a new face
being me is my biggest downfall

every lump in this mattress
a boulder against my back,
every wrinkle in the sheets
a two-by-four in my shoulder,

sleep denied by the fear
of what tomorrow’s visit
will bring. i squeeze my eyes
shut, try to focus instead

on the events of today,
find some relief, conjuring
her face. but then
visions of another face come,

black and white, frame by
frame, like in an old film noir.
dark, my love for her was very
dark, a source of secret shame.

i get out of bed, go to
the window, look out on
a surreal scene- moonlight,
and its muted glow, hints

of lacy flakes.

how much
of your life
has been decided
for you?

co-constructed
by the passing faces
on sidewalks

all life travelers
traversing dual rivers

what is
and
what shouldn't be

how often
do you enter
forbidden
territory?

At 1100 hours the guns went silent,
but for many men (and their families)
the Great War would carry on.

They had come to face a sneaky guest
that dug into them by surprise,
scraping skin and flesh and bone.

Shrapnel took their faces away,
digging ***** holes into their ears, eyes,
noses, cheeks, jaws, lips and teeth.

It took a pioneer of plastic surgery
to ****** it all back for them, not just the flesh
or just the bone but face, true face, their face.

Their faces finally looked back at them.
Now they found new friends, they stepped
through the mirror between two worlds.
On September 10th 1960 Sir Harold Gillies died. During WWI he invented plastic surgery as we basically know it, thus offering severely mutilated men a second life.
