Cleansing
Debbie Ogenyi Apr 2020
My hands
source of my wealth
Source of my pain
on one hand blessing
on the other curses

My hands
Source of my health or Death
I get to choose
keep it clean and live
let it be and die

The Traveler
Debbie Ogenyi Feb 2020
THE TRAVELER

Traveling the dusty path of life
Overwhelmed with so much strife
Knocked down ten times by  fear
Carrying  load  of regret  heavy to bear
Staggering yet  no one to hold
For men around are after gold
How  could they  see her worth
When  She could not see her  worth

Toxic words as  arrows  pierce  right through her
Mockery whispers emanate   from within her
Should she stop traveling?
lay in the sand sorrowing?
For there is strength to move on
No gumption to live on
Suffocated by self depreciation
For she got no validation

She was not  meant to pass by
To breathe a while and die
they gave her no chance  to stay
believing  she didn’t have a say

Today  she is  awake
No more crying by the lake
For its time  she rises above her fears
Far above the drowning ocean of her tears
Today she  steps out
Erasing all doubt

She is not just passing by
She is here for a purpose
Carrying much gold on the inside
Aware that she can no longer hide
More than just a traveler
She has a voice
A voice the world needs to hear

Racing backwards
Debbie Ogenyi Mar 2019
Racing through yesteryears panting from endless roam
A futile journey of wishful thinking
A yearning  for more trophies

Racing  through  yesreryears
Pondering over questions unanswered
A wasted time of deep reflection
A heart desiring to be free

Racing through yesteryears
Wondering why he had no wins
Wounds unhealed,pain unending
All because he keeps digging the past
If only you will let the past be and live in the now. If only...

Unsettled
Debbie Ogenyi Apr 2017
I slept with a beating heart
Woke to the same rhythm
Like African drums from far
I feel my soul cringe
My body leap with fear
I think death more often than not
There is an unsettling I cant explain

Sometimes the source of pain is clear
Other times too complex to  figure out
How my tongue no longer taste
My mind has gone numb
Life essence is lost
As the clarity of worthlessness is evident
Once I thought I was more than this
Now  I'm completely unsure...

In the midst of it all I choose to smile
To raise my hope above  once again
I had to become sure of all I hoped for
I celebrate every day I wake up to
And above all celebrate me
All that I am and will be
I am valuable, I am priceless
Somedays are blue and gloomy.... U WILL SURVIVE

Déjà-vu
Debbie Ogenyi Feb 2017
I try to  hold back my emotions
Protect my fragile heart
I try to say its all a lie
To make my feelings fade
How can I be love struck again

This unending circle of events
A music I have danced to before
It feels just the same as yesterday
He stretches his hands for a dance
I reach forth with a smile

So with my racing heart
I take this ride and choose to enjoy
Trusting this driver is better than the last
Forgetting my hurts and learning  laugh
Simply because I am love struck again

This song I have heard so many times
The melody brings many memories
Same old music,different dance partner
So I close my eyes, lost in the dance
Just to open my eyes and see me dancing alone

Here I am sitted again
Options laid before me
Another path so enticing
Too many meals before me
All these calling out my name

How do I choose just one
My feet longs for every path
My tongue waters for every bite
Just then  heart whispers contentment
So I followed my heart  and found peace

walking Corpses
Debbie Ogenyi Nov 2016
Walking corpse,dead while  breathing
Lost hope and shattered dreams
I see broken hearts ,unhealed wounds
Guilt and pain carried over day after day

Come alive,come alive
Know that you have a portion
Within you lies a solution
Why are you hoarding your gifts

Come alive, the times require you alive
No one will do what you are meant to do
There is your purpose, stored within you
Yet you are moping and letting time go

Why are you breathing really?
When your purpose is undiscovered
Constantly sapping and never replenishing
You are meant to be Alive and add value

Come alive this is the land of the living
And Don't think you have much time here
Get over that pain so you can help others
Arise and begin to shine forth
This is what I saw, corpse walking.people who believe there is really nothing to life.people who have lost direction, purpose, and don't even realise how dead they are.

Time
Debbie Ogenyi Oct 2016
It feels like He is  right here waiting
Yet he is  just full of deceit
Just moments ago I planned for today
When today  seemed like long years to come
But now Today is finally here
Time has played his trick again

I have had brief awesome moments
I have been swallowed by pain but spewed
All  these moments  simply varnish
And leave me with memories
Truly nothing will last forever
Today was tomorrow just yesterday
Today will  be yesterday by tomorrow
Thats how tricky Time is

passing  while making me feel he is here
He walks away and leaves me broken
I am   wishing I never let him go
Was it me?or him?who is to blame?
While  I push blames,he moves further  away
Far away from me,not minding my feelings

I began to ask questions about his past
I was not the first he has cheated
Yet I found some who beat him in his game
Then I realised Time is always on the move
He simply cant stay commited to just me
But I can be steps ahead,I wont wait for Him
Im moving,no room for idleness
No room for wishful thoughts

So I accept Him back into my life
But this time,Im am smarter
I see him play his old tricks
Moving away as he always would
But I smile , knowing I am moving too
I have choosen to always be steps ahead
I agree that  he is pracious and valuable
Yet cunning and always playing games
But I am not worried, two can play the game
Morning write:life is short, time is always on the move, but you can beat time.

Busy Blank
Debbie Ogenyi Oct 2016
Mind as chocked as Monday traffic
Oh the voices of tales so terrific
Images on my mind painted by me
Beautiful adventures no eyes can see
Countless thoughts lined up in a que
No no its not all about a great  IQ
Yearning to speak up,to say it all
But held back  by fear of a fall
Here comes pen and paper to the rescue
To take all thoughts waiting in que
But just when face with a blank paper
My busy mind becomes as blank as paper
Have u been there before? Who can relate?

Day of the girl is Everyday
Debbie Ogenyi Oct 2016
She is beautiful
She is important
She is the future
See her tender heart
Yearning for love
Hear her voice
Don't take it away
She is to be valued
She is to be groomed
Hold her hands
Lead her to her purpose
She is a womb
In time she would birth life
She is much more
A mind full of ideas
Soft yet powerful
She is a leader
She is a supporter
She is a true friend
Invest in her too
Why make her feel any less
Why hold back her rights
Why the hate
Why the discrimination
She is a girl
Celebrate her
I have seen countless girls deprived of education, choice  of career, forced into  marriages as children   and more "because they are girls" today in the international day of the girl child and for me a girl should be celebrated everyday.Let her realise she is as important as the boys.let her understand she os is able to succeed and rise.give her equal support, invest in a girl child today.

some people have given up,they see Nigeria as hopeless,They feel it can not get better.they come with history records, recent happenings and even present situations.People are frustrated and tired  so out of the frustration comes so much cursing and bitter words.
Believe me when I say I know the feeling of disappointment, the hurt that one feels when hopes are raised only to be dashed. But when I withdraw from the so much noise and look a little deeper.I see good...so much good in  Nigeria.I am being really honest now.I know someone can see this good but if you can not, I wish I could borrow you my eyes, just so you see what I see and of course return my precious eyes back.
Right from the time of Adam and to this very day,We humans tend to feel comfortable pushing blames. We refuse owning up to our wrongs or inefficiency.
While complaining of a cut in your leg there is someone with no legs,he would gladly take your legs with the cut , Be thankful and treat the cut. When the complain is not healing the cut,why don't you use the time to find some first aid.

Why curse when you can bless
why speak death when you Can speak Life
why worry when you can pray
  We can change our thinking
We can look inwards at what we can do
We can individually make a positive   difference

I'm not saying become voiceless,I'm saying  let your voice carry positive    value and be backed up with positive actions.
Can anything good come from Nigeria?
Yes!I'm a good example

Sting of Death
Debbie Ogenyi Aug 2016
I close my eyes a little while
While the sun Shined so bright
But now my eyes are wide open
And  all I see is darkness and night

I thought I'll save my precious soul
From all the pain there is in life
I thought I'll I be at peace and whole
But how can I avoid the strife

Life is too short not to take a risk
Saving it for nothing is a stupid thing
I choose  preserve my life  or not
Still it will be gone someday and soon

I hear the rhythm of my heart
But how can I dance to this tune
Its a reminder the clock is ticking
An awakening  to truly live
That moment you hear someone young passed away.the sting of death.....

Love has stole  heart away
Treasured for a million years
How I wished for long she stay
Far  from her many fears

Heart is broken once again
What can fix her shattered soul
Mend her now and not for gain
Let her now be safe and whole

Sorry
Debbie Ogenyi Jul 2016
Did you walk away
Did you let go of me
I'm pretty unsure
I can feel your sadness
I see your confusion
You want to ask why
But I have no answer
I can only say sorry

Can we turn back time
Walk together backwards
Memories and moments
We think there's none
Yet we know we are wrong
Can we change things
Don't ask me
I can only say sorry

I'm not perfect
Neither are you
We thought  we were
Once we were content
Not wanting more
Just feeling blessed
You ask what happened
I don't know ***
But I'm sorry
Some times we feel sorry,we can't explain why .....  but we  truly are.

Desperado
Debbie Ogenyi Jun 2016
I want a taste
Chocolate or vanilla Im unsure
See how creamy from afar
But my tongue knows not your worth
Delicious or just a beautiful colour
How can I tell
Im broke and cant afford you
But I'll have you anyway
Without any permission
Without a penny
Its a bet with my friends
To know exactly the taste of you
Dont feel bad
I cant fail a bet
Im sorry
Forgive me
Its all for me
But its all because of you
Can't remember when I wrote this but its most likely inspired by stories of people who take advantage of women.not for love but just to satisfy their curiosity.

Debbie Ogenyi Jun 2016
Images in my mind so unreal
Images scattered like a puzzle
A puzzle that is impossible to fix
Yet in my hands,And I'm lost
What a shattered frame
All I see is a shattered frame

I'm questioning myself,more questions
I'm seeking response from within but none
Till a ray of light began to shine
Pointing somewhere like a path to follow
It wasn't just a ray,it was hope

My mind is no more on the shattered frame
Just then I realised,I am not the fixer
How could I possibly be the fixer
There is one superior to all
Knowledgeable of all,and more than able
One Able, who was and is and is to come

Now the ray of light  points in a path
The end of which I Can not see
Thats how far I'm meant to go
Thats how limitless I am
My abilities, the strength that lies within
And the frame in my hands is making sense
The picture is forming
Its a new image,It is hope

let her Break free
Debbie Ogenyi May 2016
You wonder why she loved you
Deceit lust and betrayal
But  she did,eyes blinded
Till truth unfolds with time
Love it fades in the face of reality
Bitter but real

Let her flyaway
Let her breakfree

Listen,the sound of drums
Toes taping in rejoicing
Hear  the the laughter of freedom
She is no longer your prisoner
Let her walk with her head held high
She is beauty,elegance and dignity

You wonder why she loved you
Toture disrespect and hate
But she did,Ignorance
She held on though her blistered palm
Knowing not her worth

But she knows today
See she smiles at her reflection
She is beautiful not because you say

Let her flyaway
Let her breakfree

Be still
Debbie Ogenyi May 2016
Troubled waters,raging storm
Heartbeats like the African drum
Noise from thousand voices
Noise from ceaseless thoughts
Need I stay calm?
Quiet like a stream
Need I enjoy the peace of the day?

Not mine place to worry of the war that lies ahead
Not mine place to worry about tomorrows hunger

Worry makes my sweet soul weary
Turns  my  soft cheeks  wet
My beautiful eyes dull from tears
My precious smile faded away

So I say to my soul
Be still
Sometimes you need to encourage yourself.

Hope
Debbie Ogenyi Apr 2016
I'm awaken to cool morning breeze
Once more I see the beautiful sunrise
I'm stuck in my bed, buried in my thought
Years of dreams,several mornings
moving circles,running on a spot
Tell my weak legs to move
Tell my tired soul to keep running
Night is gone,a new day is here

Let my eyes lit with hope
Let my troubled soul find some peace
For troubles of yesterday are gone with night
Hope has come with the morning

lost love
Debbie Ogenyi Apr 2016
I long for a moment of  truth
When my lips are locked with another
A kiss so real  for the right reasons
Tears push me to hug
But what of love

I'm searching,calling out
But love is lost in the dark
I held firm but love slipped away
I blame my weak hands for letting go
my weak heart for trusting love would stay

— The End —
