the sombre tones

their pervasive shadows

Dour (Metaphor Poem)
melancholy world
dimness on minimal rays
aimlessly caught in obscurity
don't fall down
pervading all corners of the world
darkness
shadows elevated too tall
cracks plastered
no intruding light
impeded deprived view
over head
gathering
laden dark clouds
which cover the heavy mind and soul
suffering mourners
cheerless
rusted with hurt
across a mortal canvas
wherein a blot
creates spreading stain
humanity seeks
a cradle
milk for nurture
sensing virtue required

Successful Groove
last Friday night my footy team
got a good trouncing
the thirteen chaps all need
a measure of bouncing

penalty after penalty
they permitted the other side
it was a sure sign that my team
were well out of stride

one suspects the chaps
weren't on the same boat
none of their passes or tackling
was bound to keep them afloat

twas disappointing
to witness such awful play
for eighty long minutes it continued
with a lack luster display

there was so much ball
fumbled and lost by the chaps
which didn't much enhance
a win landing in their laps

at my sides next outing
on the footy ground
they'll be requiring a game
which is more sound

this passionate devotee
of rugby league
did sense in her team
some evidence of fatigue

the weeks ahead will be glumly
unless they improve
for their game has not been
in a successful groove

Works Which Are So Ideal
due to a lack of talent
in the writing sphere
a plagiarist will see fit
to pinch other poet's gear

brilliance not present
on the nib of the pen
hence a copyist will purloin
every now and then

a rich source of poetry
is tapped into online
as if robbing the golden nuggets

their coda reads like
this let's nick a stanza
stowing the best *****
for a thieving bonanza

making much of other's works
which are so ideal

The Fire's Brand
the countryside is covered
in a blanket of smoke
bush fires are burning
in and around the Rhynie spoke

some thirty thousand hectares
of land have been fried
farms and parts of the National Park
burnt from side to side

the fire authorities are working
by day and by night
to encircle the flames and embers
which so searingly bite

slowly they are winning
the protracted war against the flares
their fire fighting equipment
quelling the inferno's nigthmare

within the next few days the fire
shall be extinguished and put out
then the countryside wont be covered
in the smoke's thick tout

the air will be as clear as a bell
and less haziness shall stand
the ashes in the bushland
shall bear testament to the fire's brand
In many parts of Australia there has been bush fire activity...hence this poem.

profuse each ones gorgeous powers
of orange and white highlighting shay
with olive green leaf midst the lay

portraying an artistic glory
petals of impressionist's story
the painter scented beauty at play
applying the tones of May

Deadly Slew
much money is to be made
it's a lucrative trade
this industry does quite well
its daily profits do swell

much sough after is the hardware
buyers seek it here and there
the deals for these goods
affect the world's many neighborhoods

hear the jets flying overhead
their payloads of bombs
the women and children dread

rifles killing people by the score
in all areas
of the Middle Eastern corridor

men in suits sit comfortably
they're selling vast amounts of weaponry
their kind of business deals
in all manner of fatalities

the military industrial complex
is cashing in on war
it is making billions of dollars
killing for revenue galore

each day death tolls
on our planet accrue
the arms sellers
gaining from the deadly slew

Aggrieved Of Heart
in their formative years*
these stars burnt bright
movie theatres took them
on a stratospheric flight

they became famous
for being kids of talented nerve
the rolling camera's
showing their dynamic verve

yet the tinsel clad images
weren't portraying the true self
child actors were a studio's
road to greedy pelf

when reaching the teenage
period of their existence
drugs and alcohol plagued them
with much persistence

something was absent
as they grew to adulthood
little or no care given by
pushy parents in their childhood

tiny stars that once twinkled
did fall ******* the ground
their careers in dream flicks
bought them all unbound

Hollywood's picture factory
wasn't substantive in its part
which left many juveniles

oft one is in

as to where to put

how this tiny marking

Thy Quill (Rosarian Sonnet)
A lethargy hath encompassed thy quill
Henceforth no ink shall it profusely spill
Twill seek rest in a lovely countryside glade
Daily markings on a page shall conclude
It shall take time to imbibe in quietude
Thy quill's tiredness hath been narrated
It's verve did slowly become deflated
Dwindling away to a lifeless shade
No fetching flourishes e'er on display
The spirited light hath gone from its day
Thy quill departs to refresh and revive
As it's energies are verily listless
Doth come an hour for repose's sought redress
Tis sure to make it feel truly alive

Joe still can't get
the senate chamber to agree
that he has a well thought out
budget strategy

parts of his budget bill wont get passed
this calendar year
which will cause
the Libs and Nats to all jeer

expenditure
must be well reined in
the stack of treasury notes
are rather thin

none of the belt tightening
measures getting in
the impasse means the government
wont have savings in the tin

the country needs to have
the books in the black
if they don't pass the bills
we'll always looking back

Clive Palmer, The Greens and Labor
wont give ground
so the budget papers
will just keep hanging around

parliament will soon
be on a summer break
with our current fiscal balance
being at stake

we're all hoping
that common sense will prevail
as our nation's economy
shall continue to ail
their eyes were in
a dark disposition
a man of medicine
saw the plight
of these eyes
unto them he'd bring
a wondrous lit view
with his surgery technique
which was true blue

Fred Hollows
developed
and refined
an optical procedure
so his patients
blurred vision
could be cataract free

when the sun illuminates upon the sapphire skies
aborigines in the Northern Territory
and in Eritrea
are so grateful to receive Fred's
miraculous surgery

A Wand of Disappearances
a wand of disappearances
operate in our very
midst
who is the conductor
of its vanishing
gist?

where once our fellow
poets did pleasantly
reside
now the wicked wand
has eradicated their
bide

numerous blank spaces
symbolize the conductor's
vice
employing a wand which
has emptied the
rice

black the hour
black the day
a black instrument
whisking them all too
suddenly away
a wand so dark
of intent
wanting to wane
our writers tent

the subtracting conductor
will be planning future
disappearances
so be mindful of its
wand's unsolicited
clearances

Thy love shall never waver or deviate
A harmonic union we'll always keep
Our hearts and souls to ever correlate
Dearest thy pool of love for you so deep
Our garden shall be full of loveliness
Thy dreams coming true we'll be entwining
No sweeter day for sublime happiness
Together our future full of shining
We'll sail on beautiful clouds endlessly
Thy is manifold with delight this day
In paradise we'll reside eternally
Our cup of love overflowing, so say
With our sacred marriage vows enshrined
We'll be affectionately combined

Placid Race
the beings who float around in outer space
will never come to reside in this place
they've observed our warring ways
and from them they wish to stay away

they seek a residency of peacefulness
not a planet of ugliness and cruelness
their craft keep whizzing past here
our planet is so wet with so many tears

their way of life is founded on harmony
they are beings who live for amiability
our weaponry would make them so so sad
as they know that they are so very bad

they are ever watching us killing each other
and they'd never do this to their brothers
they believe in the power of dialogue
not of conflict and deadly catalogues

so fear not earthlings about space beings
they are steering clear of all human beings
war fare shall not assail us from space
the beings from space are a placid race

We've done a job on your place
God won't be too happy
When he revisits the place

He'll be asking a question or two
As to why we did of you *****
He'll never forgive us for the mess we've made
Human kind won't escape his tirade

Dear Mother Earth
God created you with care in mind
But the inhabitants on your surface
Have not been too kind

We've stuffed up your orb
Which shall not please God at all
As he left you in our keeping
Until he again makes a call

Well Up
the local lads
put in a good showing
at the regional
bowling championships
though they were defeated
they played exceptionally well
John won three ends in his match
but his opponent from Armidale
had a better game on the day
he sent many a fine shot
towards the jack

the tournament
was well organized
and all the participants
were able to wet their whistles
on time
when they went to the championships
last year
they all complained about
being kept on the greens
for ages
and none of them
got a beer
until well after
five thirty

as the old bowlers adage goes
it is better to be well up
than too short

Christmas And The Economy
this Christmas the shoppers
are all buying up
due to the economy
having a slight pick up

stores are finding it hard
to service demand
as shoppers have a few
spare dollars in hand

healthier trade is happening
all over the place
smiles can be seen on
many a store owner's face

toys and barbeques
are selling like hotcakes
so too socks teddy bears
and garden rakes

this Yule Tide Season
is very much improved
as there is a lot of merchandize
getting moved

last year the economy
was in a down kind of rend
and people couldn't afford
to spend spend spend
The evil men in Washington do scheme
Be not shocked by this declaration
Their wickedness put upon the nation
Control and compliance is their very theme
Cameras gleaning all manner of datum
The greater population not aware
Files stored on computer hardware
Intrusive these measures hear the drum
Citizens of America spotted
Someone somewhere is tapping the phone
Gathering loads of pertinent tales
All those locales on maps are well plotted
No one is left out of the spying zone
Operatives filling their bales
After reading an article about (spy drones) been used to gather information on American citizens I wrote this poem.

Thou hath not the hand of a Sonneteer
As this composition shall verily tell
Thou proffers a rhyme so unfit to sell
Of determination thy mind doth steer
Correct in meter all lines must be
The object is to complete this hard task
Then in a well lit passage thy can bask
Thy brain laboring to bring glory to thee
The end of the process is in full sight
Each word placed down with much exertion
Thou trudges forward to climb the high hill
Where there is an ebullient glowing light
All self doubt hath gone out on excursion
Thy best efforts done with an inept quill
One to make you smile...
