Should I ‘respect’ a person
because they have the power
to harm me?
Or,
Should I respect a person
because they are able and willing
to help me
achieve my joy and happiness?

Seated by the gallery,
looking out into the star light.

Wishing to relive a tragedy,
the loss of a soul, this very night.

Hanging on the wall, a faded print,
memories of the past.

A certain scar that will never heal,
as then a lit match was cast.

If it was a dream,
we would have awoken.

But, now all I remember are his screams,
like a curse from a fallen totem.

Why must we burn,
for we never did sin.

As the flames turn to ashes,
I had to bury my own kin...

Tonight
I need comfort
I require love
Attention
Just a taste of respect
Acknowledgment
I need to feel warmth
Powerful arms wrapped around my torso
A gentle caress
Just remind me
That I’m alive
That I’m human
I’m not repulsive
I’m not evil
I’m desirable
I’m going to be okay...
What I fear I may never receive though I desire nothing greater...

dark, vile, and cruel
entity.

A living embodiment
of vanity.

For me, she is a WITCH
and a *****.

[Proverbs 18:13
To answer before listening—
that is folly and shame.]

Listen -

no matter how impregnable
or how tall the border wall
how faint their call
no matter how great the chasm
between you and them
between your point of view
between your world view
and where they have taken their pew

- Listen

don't write them off
as blinkered
as closed minded
as none-so-blind
and don't be so quick
to assert you're the more
20 20 vision kind

- Listen

don't shame them
or be all too ready to belittle them
don't be dismissive of them
with no respect for them
and for what has led them and theirs
to their honestly held position

- Listen

assume their good faith
and in a space that's safe
assume a position
of good natured
mutual consideration
and seek mutual revelation
of God-given wisdom

-Listen

and as you clear
that common ground
you are bound to build
a safer compound
a creator-shared hallowed ground
where the heard are found
while bound for wisdom
together

this year,
i’ve met too many people,
i’ve let go of a lot of these people,
i’ve lost a lot of respect for
so many more,
i’ve given up on others,
not just me, myself and I.
it’s a pun, hehe
money bought him
the young flowers to
defile
money bought him
satisfaction's
smile

yet his money
bought him trouble
aplenty
for his victims were
well below the age of
twenty

his money will need
to buy good legal

as the New York prosecutors
so desire his

money never purchased
him an ounce of
respect
on his money he'll be
left to endlessly

You
Here we are
In a closet,
protected by intimacy.

This is not a reflection,
written on sand
nor a message
left on a mirror
by salient hands.

With a phrase
I will release you.
Into a room,
Without judgment, or breath.
Without a scream of worry,
Or an island of regret.

This is love without witness,
The most naked of vulnerabilities.
The self-seeking, all seeing periphery,
Truth.

Here in the wasteland
Swarming
Cold
Gazed with locked doors
The shadows of your frail body
Scared me
Imminent contagion
The land opened its mouth
To swallow the town
I would've felt bad for the mayor
If he had treated us with an ounce of respect
Our dry throats singing broken tones
Like a detuned string
Air comes out foul and distorted
The hymns were sang and
The souls ripe with hope
Danced
Instinctive motion
Of the universe
Laughed
My gaze was extinguished

We are strangers
Yet my heart is open to you
Soon to be neighbors is the
American Dream
Not a greed machine feeding nothing but
Chauvinistic pleasure
Nor is learning how to hoard resources to one side of a body or border an active vision anymore
Instead this night aspires for green trees untouched except by skin, a home and morale for the fallen and free, even more varied cuisines
All faces spring forth just as fluently here, no need for same speak as we may share a smile and nod just as easily, duly noting
Our colors and diversity, who is suitably similar to the landscapes travelled throughout the states, a testimony to
Our uniquely cultured experience which yearns to preserve
forever under sparks and sprinklers in summer when things grow for all;
For me, for them,
For us, for We.
