The poison of my expectations
immunized my body systems

creeping in the veins a shot
of disappointments, frustrations

I cannot keep setting myself up this way

Antidotes are not the cure. Nothing can remedy
the syrup of downfalls encroaching my liver

the gates are closed.
You can’t hurt me anymore.

feeling safe in the hands of danger;
breathing against the lips of toxic.
intrigued by the mysterious stranger;
her heart, he effortlessly unlocks it.

"this is how i'll die today,"
she proclaims at the touch of his hand.
"he may have killed me
but i'll love him forever and always,"
says the foolish girl who loved the conman.
first two lines were the words of my friend Elle, and i continued from there.

love feels toxic as it is remedial.

Sugar, salt, and all of the old pain
I put them in the bottles of wine you'd leave behind
You used to say that I made you feel like cinnamon and honey
My kisses soft as velvet
Fingertips like drip coffee brewing in your bones
I was the poet
But I found salvation in your words
You spoke freely and eloquently,
Like the way your mouth moved all the way down to the tips of my toes

My language is the sea and you took me closer
Where you could add salt to all of my wounds
And I thought, pick flowers and he will see the sweetness in you
But you never saw the sweetness in me
Even when you called me sugar
Even when I was the honey that made your cinnamon sweeter
You said I was like coffee, but that was before you made me bitter

I picked flowers by the sea today
Sea glass crackling beneath me
A remedy crackling inside me
Sugar and salt and the sea,
I made a boat out of your bottles
And let them take the pain away.

What is it the wind whispers on your cheek my finger tips long to hear
What effulgent echoes of sunrise render each tear
What facsimile of midnight your finger tips whisper back
What ancient childhood secrets parade behind each eyelash.

Oh, how my fate lifts by the curve of your hips
How condemned I am hell-bent by the swerve of your lips

Such language infinitely dancing loosely upon your palms
Such remedies recited by your resting tongue
Your mandible sacred where my universe began
Oceans devoured between us by our patience

Sometimes I wonder if you’re better off without me,
If the miles between us set you free.

I was holding you back, dragging you down.
Yes, you’re definitely better off without me around.

From a distance, I’ve watched you spread your wings and fly,
Do things you wouldn’t have dared to try.

By now.. I’m almost certain, by now I’m almost sure,
That me leaving you behind was your cure.

“Have a cup of tea, it’ll all be OK”
No matter the problem, that’s what they say
Whether you’ve lost your cat, your keys or your Nan
“What you need is a brew”, not some help or a plan.

Got a paper cut?
“I’ll make a ***.”
Laptop caput?
“It’s nice and hot..”
In massive debt?
“All soon forgot.”
Mourning a pet?
“It’ll help a lot.”

It’s as if that milky brown solution
Held inside the resolution
To every problem ever cried
And yet it tastes like a bare-faced lie

“Have some tea, it’ll be OK”
Will it make all my problems go away?
Will it fix the famine or end the war?
Will it house the homeless or feed the poor?

You’re telling me dried vegetation
Is the answer to my agitation
“I’ve stubbed my toe!” “I’m going blind!”
Drink up, cheer up, never mind!

If it were true, can you even dream
Of a world where tea can fix a melted ice cream?
A cuppa here, a cuppa there,
The end to all the world’s despair!

But we’d eventually run out of space
There’d be a great big global tea-growing race!
The cost of tea would go sky-high,
Only the wealthy could afford to buy
The medicine, the wonder drug
Your future secured in a polka-dot mug.

I simply find it hard to believe
That a soup of steaming boiled leaves
Has the unlikely power to relieve
Even the very most naïve.

But don’t you worry,
Don’t dismay,
Have a cup of tea, it’ll all be OK..

Is it too cliché to say I feel as though I have been waiting for you for my entire life?
I’m going sustain that objection and say yes, yes it is too cliché
The jury is out,
using one cliché is not enough, a picture is worth a thousand words, and that does not accurately paint the picture of how it feels to finally find my way home.

You, have always been the apple of my eye
They say time heals all wounds, but being with you for just a moment heals them enough- its true, an apple a day keeps the doctor away
I have a clean bill of health, but not a penny to my name
Luckily, you have a heart of gold, I’ll follow the rainbow through the storm
In fact, you were the eye of the storm, my silver lining
I want my place in the sun.
We can take the world by storm, throw caution to the wind and let love fly
The butterflies that fill my stomach are tugging at my heartstrings
As far as insects go, to lay with you is to be as snug as a bug in a rug
You keep me warm, please, don’t get cold feet
After all, it isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon, put your best foot forward and I’ll put my dancing shoes on- it takes two to tango
your voice is my favorite song
You sing like a bird, I’m all ears has cat got your tongue?
If curiosity killed the cat, well baby I’m dressed to ****, I’ll drink the kool aid
My cup is half full, I won’t cry over spilled milk, instead, lets get our feet wet

I’ve come clean, aired my ***** laundry, and yet you didn’t hang me out to dry
The past few years have been like watching water boil, like waiting for ink to dry
Good things come to those who wait, and I’ve been waiting long enough. So when opportunity knocks I’ll answer

Better late than never-welcome to the club.

I hate that you already have to be on the road again, but leaving is only a bump in the road
Now step on it, turn back around, time has slowed down
Cause if absence makes the heart grow fonder, well the hands on my clock seem to be moving slower, or maybe I just have too much time on my hands
By now, I know you like the back of my hand
So if idle hands are the devil’s workshop, won’t you take mine to hold?

You're my sacred distraction,
you shake me hard
and shoot me high
into a web of stars,
I hover weightlessly
inside your charming Universe,
until I'm dancing on air
and breathing in your
sweet remedy,
until you've saved me
once more.
