Stepped in to the street.
Two rain drops fell on my face;
A cloud’s parting gift!

I thought I knew you

Your green eyes and how they may wander
The touch of your thick, ashy hands
Your determined heart, may it not go asunder
The strength of our tight wedding bands

I thought I knew you

The heart in your chest with the strength of a lion
The mileage and baggage of the grief you've traveled
The look in your eye when I know that you're lyin',
The realization that all that we've built has unraveled

I thought I knew you

The idea that you could betray me for another
And I thought we would fight 'till the end
Yet I knew that you'd go and find a new lover
And our love now I cannot amend

"Turn around!"
She wishes the rain would cut her skin to ribbons
Drawing the heel of her hand across her eyes
Gravel cuts into the soles of her bare feet
Puddles splashing under his retreating footsteps
He doesn't even pause
"Turn around!"
Repeating her plead feels like desperation
It almost is
Almost
She wills her voice not to break
"Look at me when you say it!"
He walks on
Never wavering
Icy droplets cut her until the shiver settles in her bones
Then she speaks his name
The name of her almost anonymous lover
Almost
And he stops
The rain turning his silhouette gray and defeated
Her breath catches in her throat
In the space between heartbeats she can see him touch his lips
As if remembering their last kiss
She swears he almost trembles
Almost
And she shuts her eyes
Letting him paint the backs of her eyelids one last time
"I'm so afraid."
She whispers to no one and everyone all at once
Afraid of letting him slip away
Afraid of losing her grip
When she opens her eyes
He's gone
But then again
He was never really there

We were walking
Along the sidewalk
Your shoulder gently touching mine
Your eyes laughing
While mine were crying
You turned around
And said goodbye

Your silhouette
Was fading away
As you ran into the fog
My heart breaking
Shedding tears
I kept on calling out your name

Restless thoughts
A sleepless mind
Walking against walls
As if I was blind
Wherever I go
Forever I'll search
I'll never ever see you again

Lost in you
Lost in me
This isn’t how it’s supposed to be.
Holding your breath
Letting it out
Whistling air -
Fill me with doubt.
Running away
See you someday
Hoped this would never end.
Caught in your sheets
Rolling so deep,
Could never call you a friend.
Burn down the door
On your way out -
Don’t cross that threshold again.
Tear me apart
Rip out my heart
It was only a matter of when.

We feed each other
dreams
our saliva like honey
dripping with dawn’s
tender glow
as we open up
like baby birds,
begging to be nourished
at all costs
Here,
in this lingual forest
Your breath finds a home
on my tastebuds,
my tongue
in your cheek

i made a promise
that i would never miss you
but we're parting ways
and i already feel an ache
you don't see it
                            (you don't see me)
your eyes are new
and your spirit is still fresh
           i'm a dangerous idea
wrapped up in flesh and blood
i wait for you to notice
to notice i'm not the kind who
                                 can give you love
                                                anymore

it kills me to know that someday soon

                                   i'll be the first one
                        to teach you that people
are as hard and cold as the earth
       beneath your tender, trusting feet

that expired promises
don't keep

you changed me
me, with my steel skin
                      (young heart)
and stone gaze
       (wild)
you wonder why i pull away
                                (look your way)
you wonder why you say you love me
and why i never say
                    anything
                   (the same)

you killed me
you, the first one to teach me that
when angels finally fly your way
there's no reason they can't fade
                    into a passing glance
                           (an agonizing)
                              into the eyes of
        a once-too-familiar stranger
       (the other half of myself)
Written back when emotions were still fresh. Now, I exist as a statue.
