You reminded me so much of a rose
Such elegance did you pose
Beautiful, lush, and full of surprise
How I wish I had known about your demise
Don't be silly, not that of thine
But the one you had in mind
For me, of course, what were you thinking
Now I am the ship that's slowly sinking
Time has passed, and now I'm gone
You sit there quietly, oh-so fond
and then that's when it came
Swift and sudden as the rain
The vicious guilt of what you had done
and now it's you that has to run
No matter how far or fast you go
You will never escape your vengeful foe
A wilted rose you have become
Did you picture me so dumb
I've come back to haunt you from the grave
Do you have what it takes to stand tall and brave
The answer is no
So far away you shall go
The life of a rose is not forever
or were you too busy to remember
Your time has finally come to an end
Now you make the perpetual descent
Into the confinement where you belong
Without a soul to accompany you along
Your story was a great one, but sad to be told
And there it sits sullenly for time to behold
Sombro Dec 2014
A taste of the future has come to my lips,
Sickly, but then, I asked for it
The droplets forsook me and went to my eyes
But nobody living has taken the sips
Like I have drunk deep of the pit
And the water was refreshing, to my surprise

I fortold the blessing, like a hand to the brow
I carried the scars, like lines on my face,
But ones that aged me more quickly
I heaved at the thought of the then and the now
My make up was dark, but light at the place
Where I applied it more thickly

So tell me the truth, all those from beyond
Explain the shadows under your eyes
I don't understand how you sink to your knees
A cowl of cold on me has been donned
It never could bring me to rise
For me and for life, we do as we please.
A little poem on life and its processes.

I see the sunshine,
But I also see the rain.
What is purpose of my life ?
If I don't overcome a simple pain....

Anatomical roots cover
The heart of this planet
Trees sprouting
From the darkest crevasses
In which the insects hide
Clawing their way towards
The gaseous orb
That gives them nutrients

Some don’t grow far enough
Suppressed by unknown toxins
Just stopping short of the
Illuminated line between life and death
Petrified, the trees stay solid
Until the insects of time rot them away

However, some do find success
Making it out of these
Pitch black caverns
To find themselves
Living in a whole different world
A land that only they can
Appreciate, love and cherish
Because they can see the difference
They came from the dark
Between the roots
Reaching for the sun
Hoping not to get burned
An Uncommon Poet Dec 2014
I lived in the rink
Cold and Damp
I lived on the field painted in white lines
Lit by the scorching sun or blistering winds
I've seen things you could not imagine
I've done things you cannot comprehend
I've stuck up for my team-mates
I've popped shoulders back in place
Treated wounds, sewed gashes
I've sacrificed every inch of my body
To feel triumph and success
But there is a limitation
I will never destroy my opponents
As this is not war
Nor am I a warrior
I am human
My respect is endless regardless of our feud
I've seen people hand their jerseys to those less fortunate
I've strived to make my opponents tap out
But as they begin to lose consciousness
I've removed their mouth guard and supported their neck
I've hugged and cried for what we do for the love of the sport
I watched a wrestler of only 11, orchestrate a loss
To his opponent whom had cerebral palsy
Question my desire to succeed
But I will never elevate this desire over someone who needs to succeed
I am a fierce competitor but I will never harm my opponents
I will pick up the soccer ball if my opponent lays in agony
I’ve watched a man tear his hamstring
Yet limp and crawl down the track
Because he will never sink to a quitter
It’s worth more than a win
Its personal growth
I've seen old team-mates now opponents
Hand over awards
With the utmost open heart and congratulations
And although they are against each other on paper
This does not disperse them
Their respect and love for the person did not seep between the cracks in the ice
I’ve defeated my opponents and lifted their heads
To congratulate them for how hard they’ve worked
At the end of the day a trophy sits on your shelf
Win or lose, the success is growing beyond what once was your capacity
I’ve seen man and boy carry their family through triathlons
Swimming across lakes with ropes tied to the boat where their member rests
Carrying the weight of 150lbs on the front of their bikes
Push the extra weight in a wheel chair
Because they did not seek success
They seek the moment of triumph and achievement
To share with their family
To force them to experience overcoming the impossible
How can you disguise the power of sport?
How can you disguise its beauty?
Its successes and failures?
Its heart breaks and companionship?
The power of sport unites us as a society
Never disrespect its illuminated opportunity
Never shun those who've experienced its chaos
At our most vulnerable lows
Your friends, family, opponents and bystanders
Will always be here for you
Because this is what sport ignites
The fiery flame burning through the pits of your stomach
Capsizing your heart
Forcing you to show respect for one another
Sports is not about receiving the gold medal
Its about becoming faster, smarter, stronger, quicker
Ultimately better than you once were
The bar that once barricaded you from success
Becomes in-existent
Because you've grown and overcome the barrier that stands before you
And this should never come at the cost of your opponent
For as long as they are your opponent
You will respect them
Because like Canada’s Prime Minister once said;
We may be opponents but we are never enemies
Think twice before you disgrace the numerous games
Which have written millions of memories
I’ve been there
The power of sport is undeniable
You should crave the highest level of achievement
For not only yourself
But your opponents too
Respect their mental capacity and push them
To be better than the man that stares back at them every morning
Do not ever disrespect the power of sport
As you will experience moments which will be tattoos to your mind until you pass
You are as good as your work ethic
The trophy is only a bonus
The gold medal is staring yourself dead in the eyes
And recognizing you've grown
Recognizing you respect and love your opponents
Despite your differences
Recognizing that you will do anything it takes
To help others become 1% than they once were
Because the smile it brings to their face
And the fire it starts in their heart will never die
There pride will elevate beyond the furthest stars
All because of you
So I plead you,
Get off your couch
Step away from your computer
Roll out of bed
Step away from the kitchen
And work as hard as you can
To achieve something you want
Something you want to bad that you cannot even explain your desire
I grew up being told nothing will ever stand in my way
I will achieve everything I put my mind to
With an unstoppable work ethic, respect and desire to achieve
I will become better every day
So why shouldn't you?

I see you
standing on the left side of the fence
I see you
crying deep inside your defense
I see you
tighten your jaw when emotion hits your heart
I see you
acting stupid to hide your smarts
I see you
making decisions that will impact you forever
I see you
believing forever couldn't actually exist.
I see you
pain crippling down to your bones
a weakness you wont ever show
I see you
but you wont look me in the eyes
you wont tell me whats wrong
but i can see you
I can see you
I can see your love trying to shine
I can see the torture that's held it down
I can see the sorrow through the smiles
I can see the heartache beneath the front
I can see the bruises making scars
I can see each cut getting deeper than the last
I can see the oncoming regrets and the ones that have passed
I can see the guilt hiding behind the light in your eyes
Don't try to fool me
I've seen you since the first time i saw you
looking scared as **** but trying to front
When will you be ready
When will you see
You've been lost since you could think
and pushed past your brink
Slow it down and take a look inside
before its too late to take a step back
Don't let that pain keep you classified
We all need to be identified
Its going to hurt
It has to be hard
but how is that different from where you are
take my hand
follow me to a better space
Where its hard at first
but you finally find your place.
I have so many poems with your name attached. I wish I could bring you back.

Have you ever met Immy?
She's a beautiful kid
Blonde hair
Big blues
Stare up saying 'you'll love me'
Trust in her eyes, love in her heart
She needs protection, devotion, unconditional love
Immy sits and waits, she wonders what she's done wrong
Mummy doesn't  get up when she's hungry, when her ear hurts and she can't sleep
When she needs a cuddle because she's cold and sad
Mummy doesn't brush her hair and do it up pretty
Mummy doesn't put her in pink shirts and frilly skirts
Mummy doesn't shield her when he hurts her every night.
Mummy had no sign of love in her eyes when she yells ugly words
Mummy has no love in her eyes when she's throwing things around the yard telling Immy to get the **** out and don't come back kid
Mummy isn't a mummy
So who will be?

Have you met Immy?
She just graduated high school
She worked harder than any kid her age would
Fought, kicked, escaped
She lived round those places til she got on her feet, dinner on the table, school everyday, vacuum your room
Responsible for herself she made it
She's a miracle
She's strength, courage
She made it out of the cycle
She overcame the inevitable, expected
Escaped the void
The hopelessness
She made it

Having many irons on fire
Willing to die in harness tire
Take boll by horns to weather
Bound with the birds of feather
Sweat, thirst being leap in dark
Can see rotten vest pale mark!

Yet throw gauntlet to cut a gardian knot
Exalte the trap wince it's fate wrote
By the pinch of salt to stop
Make out rest on laurels! nope
Being at sea about own strife
Do i drag it or the life!!
An untold story of rickshaw puller.
I screamed at my mother
until my voice hurt
I knew I was crazy
but I was so scared
she looked at me
like I was
her cup of coffee
that had spilled
I’m afraid
I can get in trouble
for being afraid
following the dog days
when you dogged me
in all ways
nothing kept me grounded
I forgot about the earth
heart was electrified
need for sleep unrecognized
I walked towards
who I left for you
hoping that if
I slept with him
you'd hear about it
you’d be jealous
when you called me
button
you were really saying
you couldn’t join two parts
without my help
now you can only
text me when
you’re alone
unlike when
you needed me
to keep your hole
from tearing
apart
The day I realized that it was okay to be upset at my ex and a fight between the only person I have left, my mother, ensued.

There's such a delicacy about all of it.
What to say. How to feel.
How do you feel?
As if the price of honesty was well worth the reward.

The weight of it all
will almost always pause us,
and freeze us in picture frames.
It will capture the shattering fragments of glass
before you have the slightest chance to react.

And how do we reflect on the past,
or predict the future,
when it just seems so out of our control?
It's as if we've been thrown into a violent gust
without any wings,
or at least ones we can trust.

But you are to my left,
and you are to my right.
And we are all around you.
So no matter how futile our attempts
to blow each other in the right direction are,
The love behind the action
will never steer you too far.
