The Unsung Song Mar 2018
Stephen Hawking.

A man who was revered.
A man who was loved.
A man who was looked to for guidance.
All of these things, but most of all,
he showed the youth of the world,
that there is a way.
That you have the ability,
to become whatever you want.

Stephen Hawking had ALS/Lou Gehrig's disease,
for over 55 years.
He died on the same day that I am writing this.
March 14, 2018.

Ever since I was about 12 years old,
I've been more than interested in science.
This got me exposed to Stephen Hawking.

As I got older,
I started to actually understand what he was saying,
rather than just listen to,
pointless words from a pointless device.

The first subject that I could understand well,
was Hawking Radiation.

I won't get into the nitty gritty,
but it has to do with how the energy,
that a black hole absorbs is expelled.

The point in me saying this,
is not because I want you to know about science.
But because I want you to know,
how this singular man,
affected me.

No.

Affects. Me.

I watched the YouTube video that showed me Hawking radiation when I was twelve years old,
I am 16 now and know what it is,
by memory.

I'm not a genius by any means,
but Stephen Hawking,
he gave me the courage to push forward,
to be eager to learn.

You might not know this,
but in the United States,
kids all around the country,
they are discouraged to learn
due to bad grades,
due to bad teachers,
due to bad funding,
they are essentially taught this,
nothing you do will ever be enough.

Stephen Hawking?
He didn't care.

Granted he didn't go to school in the U.S.,
but he was dealing with a different battle.
ALS is a neurodegenerative disease.
This means that even though he is,
sorry,
was,
one of the smartest people on this planet,
he will be constantly bombarded by a blockade that he can't even see.

This is the same battle in a different form,
that every child in the U.S.,
is facing.

Cyber-bullying.
******-harassment.
domestic-violence.
physical-abuse.
emotional-abuse.

These are all major causes of suicide.

Stephen Hawking gave us the courage to push past our,
"disease",
to become something better.
Thank you Stephen Hawking for the service you gave to your world. You empower us.

Of higher learning

We place a loose leash of knowing about slender throats
Caught hard in hollows, a not knowing breath
whose taste slipped into my words learned by rote
I wrote them all down then disregarded the terms
to a rattling gasp of old honour under contract
to self interest; a mid-career master of the dead
passing zombie bus stops still chasing the wind
past car parks come too late to a recording of record
bare baited notations pass status updates into the wind
Faith hung from some devils bargain by the late fee
What value has learning when you can’t find a teacher
Willing to work for the purpose of knowledge alone
Better choke it for the economics of high yield returned
To the word caught in this throat, it churns like cinders, last smoking
weft from the building we built just to watch it burn

These low income kids need more motivation
My teachers don’t know the problems we are facing
I am not a rich privledged girl
I am a chicana, raised in the ghetto type of girl

Let me take you inside of my world
Just next to my house is where the gangsters meet
If you say something wrong
They’re quick to leave you dead in the street
Graffiti and gang signs is all you see on the walls
If you take a walk and hear shots
You wouldn’t want to be in deep

Cops can stop you just because they can
People like us, do you really think they give a ****?
My brother is always getting stopped by a white man
They tell him “Put your hands over your head”
Any sudden movement and he is for sure dead

In the night the guns are pulled
Gang enemies coming over
Looking for problems up to no good
The street rules are in place like it would
Gun shots and sirens are playing in the background of my hood

Poverty makes times even more rough
I didn’t get new kicks for Christmas
I guess it’s just my luck
I have faith in God that I will get out of being stuck
I have decided I have had enough...

Tuition fee: X
Development fee: Y
Security fee: Z

Extra-curricular fee,
probably : V
Fee to **** time,
mandatorily: W

Cost of being good,
“ZERO”, I evaluate.

Here,
We pay a handsome waste,
X, Y, Z, V, W
to be nothing.

With a hope,
to be something.

America is great!
So... just to get it straight?
Your right to have and hold a gun.. For fun..
Trumps the rights of all daughters, and sons...
to learn, to play, in a place, that’s safe?

You are not defending freedom,
the only thing that’s freed..
Is Your Greed.

The cash rolls in,
the shooting starts again,
the NRA write... A. Big. Fat. Cheque.
Whilst kids learn to “hit the deck!”?

You want teachers trained as shooters,
Not as tutors.
Inspired by the brave kids at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. and the inaction of those in power who have the means and responsibility to stop it happening again.

Nursery time
A for Apple,
B for Ball,
C for Cat
We all have learned  this rhyme
Best to be inside the System.

Our grand father did it
Father, after following
Taught us, the same
Best to be inside the System

Now,
We all realize,
There are thousands of words,
Beside Apple, Ball and Cat
Started from,
The same old
Nursery A, B, C

When fruits seller’s child
Remembers A, B
Apple comes with responsibility
Per kg. Rs. 250
Banana comes with responsibility
Per Count Rs. 10

I might be wrong,
I asked him, for the latest updates

With professional voice,
He replied,
“Price changes with supply and demand.”

What they don’t teach in the school
What matters in the real world.
Real life education, a need.

Maybe I’m still young or maybe I’ve already missed the train
But I still want to dream about the future and my happy life
I still want to have children and teach them what I've learned
I still want to tell them my story and how I fought
When I become a mama
I will teach my son how to respect his sister
how to be a real man by his manly charm
not by his rude character
I will teach him how to express his feeling to the others
and there is no theory says only weak men cry
and there is no rule affirming that men are monster's children
I will tell him how it feels to be a heartbroken
How it feels to be rejected and ignored
How painful it is when someone shows up your heart in public when you never wanted it to happen
when I become a mama
I will introduce to my son my best friend miss distance
I will let him spend a holiday with her without my presence
I want to help him understand
the true meaning of love by this experience
that when we love there is no place
for doubt or boredom in our hearts
and wherever we go we still can take care of our lovers
the more we are far away
the more our feelings grow like a herbs
I will plant in his pure garden my sensitive sensation
and I will etch on his white brain my precious citations
Don’t be ashamed when you fall in love
better to feel like a fool in life
than guilty ’cause of your prideful side
when I become a mama
I will show my daughter my real face
and before I became her number one bias
I was made of glass
I fell 4 billion times and
I broke and I took time to heal my scars
I will teach her that girls have one mutual pride
and they all fight for one mutual point
is to be respected as a human not used as an object
and the irresistible female beauty
is living under their superficial vestments
and before making up her face
she needs to learn how to make up her mind
I want her to understand
that the equality between men and women
doesn’t mean acting like them
till she loses her feminine charm
but it means doing what she can do to build a strong personality
but never let go of her sweet charisma
just as her favourite barbie does
When I become a mama
I will help my kids find their way and reach their dreams
I will respect their choices and support their decisions
when I become a mama
I will be the person that I needed to meet
when I was young but unfortunately never found…
things parents need to teach their children ..

Here today

Here we sit

Amongst our friends

Our fellow classmates

Parents

Teachers and staff

It’s hard but…

Now that so much time has passed

We must admit

The highs and lows

Of these four years

Came and went

Beginning to end

Our time here went by so very quick

As for our teachers

They only know

How in the beginning,

We may have been dim

But with their support

We began to glow

So we would  like to say thanks

Because of you

We’re now able to burn brightly

All on our own

Because of you

Who knows the journeys we’ll travel

Or the places we’ll go

These four years may not have been easy

But that's made us stronger

That's helped us grow

To ourselves and our teachers

We now owe

A continued pursuit of excellence

On the paths we take

And for others

The paths we chose

It’s our turn now

To be the future

It is to the whole world that we must show

The skills we've learned and the knowledge we've earned

It is our time now to take the first steps

Towards our destiny

With our own two feet

For us to do what we have to do

For those of you with heavy hearts

And for those who feel this is the end of a small part of your life

It’s true

But it’s also a new start

Because…

In our own two hands is a fate in which we are holding

As we’re getting older

As we are growing

One by one

Our fingers begin unfolding

leaving hand prints on history

Touching hearts and minds

On the road to our destiny

We must now leave some friends behind

But do not be saddened

Do not fret

For they too

Have roads that they must find

We now all have one great mountain that we must conquer

That we must climb

Do not dare give in

Don’t dare give up

They are our own two hands

We must now guide ourselves to that mountain top

We may make mistakes

We may fall

But because of our time here

We’ve learned to rise again

To stand tall

I hope you enjoyed your years here as much as I did

And as you begin the next step of your lives

I wish the best of luck to you all.

I see the past bearing down on me like a valley

I do believe I have the courage to take a step back

I feel the weight of generations past and the whispers they carry

I don’t know if it all comes full circle, but

I love the smell of old books.

I hate how we ignore those who came before us, as if we don’t walk across their graves every day.

I’m most passionate about understanding where we come from, and how we got here.

I hope people see me as a flashlight beneath a bedsheet, illuminating the written page.
