Life in the slow lane

There’s a tree over there.
I know you can’t see it, but I don’t care.
I never needed you to see it, for you are not here
And I could be anywhere.

The kids are playing and singing their songs.
With experiences they learn their rights from their wrongs.
We are all teachers, learning all the way along.

Why is that dog barking?
When no-one pays it any attention.
Oh yes I forgot to mention, that is it *******.
It has never truly ran free.
Prisoner sent to detention.
Taken wherever its master may lead.
It shouts out loud I need to eat!
I need to run!
Or I need to ***!
Language is evidently not in what you see.

I chase a ball of love alone.
Got no hot number on my phone.
The buttons are not worn out from typing text.
I have stopped my endless search for ***.
Just give me fresh air and a place of peace
And I will leave you all to your jealousy.

I see a couple holding hands, with smiles on their faces,
But I have seen this before and I know how the story will end.
The beautiful nectar that begins as love, ends as faeces.
At the end they are not even friends.

Here comes the bus.  Next destination please.
It’s getting late now, heading home for tea.
Still thinking of peace, love and empathy,
But I am incapable of understanding anything I have seen.

A motorbike goes flying on by.
Pretty soon they will be up in the sky.
I take the slow lane, no need to rush into the darkness.
All that is there is an endless list.

I already see the mother as she cries.
He’s being praised for the fact that he died.
I read about him the morning after in the paper.
Adrenaline seeker seeking similar.

A parent in a supermarket aisle
slaps her toddler hard and
the child screams in pain and shock.

A teenager walking along a busy street
drops the wrapper of his chocolate-bar
on the footpath.

A woman in a cinema-theatre
in the middle of the movie
calls on her mobile-phone
her son to tell him about the movie,
disturbing the other movie-watchers.

A man walking his dog along a street
takes his dog off the leash and
the dog barks aggressively and lunges
at frightened pedestrians.

The fish have died,
Theres mud everywhere,
And your curtains are all scratched up.

Welcome back home.
Lol just kidding, HE was actually a sweetheart. ^-^

Sounds awaken you
Listen to the morning song
In the near distance

Sounds of the new day
Sounds of cars rolling along
Sounds of dogs speaking

Sounds coming at you
Coming from unseen frontiers
To awaken you...

What do you hear?

I lost my best friend recently
It's been months and I can't think of it without the pain in my chest becoming too loud to think over
He was only here for a small part of my life but I was all he knew
A pet became family and a protecter and someone that will stick with me for the rest of my life
I should have spoiled him more
Taken the time even on bad days to give him attention
Did I appreciate him enough?
He loved me unconditionally despite all my flaws and I wish I had that back every day
I love you and will never forget you
Took a lot for me to write this
I didn't get to see you go so this is my goodbye

The storm drops they are
clawing, clawing
at the walls
I feel the shadows lengthening
exhale of evening

If you were a hungry dog
abandoned at my doorstep
would I still?

“let
me
in.”

if you notice the oxytocin

tip when you pet your dog,
or any dog you know,
or know upon
touching, fingers to fur;
we are sym-
ethos-patico.

y'know,
same hormone as let a mamma
milk flow
down

if you cognize the feel
then, after gettin' the feelin',

knowtice what you feel
when you hear

your dog dreaming and see
him running like

we were twenty-two and broken through,

my dog, you can feel him dream,
if you know his touch.
He can barely walk, but he dreams real loud

Does your dog bark, ours sure do
They bark and bark then go find a shoe

They sleep all day in the cutest position
It’s hard to explain their crazy exhibition

What is it about them that steals your devotion
It’s the way they love, without thought or commotion

Time spent with dogs is certainly sublime
They make for a full life with love that is blind...

Gotta love dogs
Alek Mielnikow Jun 2019
The sun is napping behind a cloud,
though loud plane engines call her awake.

Pollen is prancing around the patch,
and tiny critters follow their lead.

A big dog lies on the patio,
his smelly body absorbing heat.

You rest here with a pen in your hand,
tossing small diamonds into the sand.
