the overground, the
boom-boom, boom-boom,
the repetitive rhythm
of youth, of you, of
your hands between my thighs,
of yellow-golden-brown
sun stains on the wall,
of yawns interrupted by kisses.
that train lulled me to sleep,
it opened my heart and
it broke me, silently,
into a saltwater version of truth;
where am i? what am i
supposed to be doing here?
why can't i see you?
i scream into my pillow
these rhetorical tortures
until my throat is numb and
my head feels like
that train;
boom-boom. boom-boom. boom-boom.
i can't stop thinking about that **** train

It’s not easy to be strong
It’s easy to be weak
But we all want to be strong
And we all want easy

So which do we choose?

To work hard
Train hard
Choose hard

Or

To be easy
Do easy
Choose easy

There’s no in between

I like riding the train
I don’t like the people
But I like the train
One time I rode it empty late at night
It was exhilarating
Only as a woman
I feared
the one man
at the station
an eve
is nigh
this lore
feature a
tie of
humor hell-
bent when
datelines were
luxury liners
that pack
in heat
and whether
all escapes
were finally
harbingers of
passage in
diaper cake
When time would hail the smoke

Blow the whistle
Hear the rumble
Rolling in your chest

With tracks bound down
And feet locked east
These carousels a crest

Around and round
With heels of steel
And steam so deep to mist

As a southbound train
He whistles now
And his heart she travels west
The best writes have no thought or self judgement attached. They just are, as is, as they're meant to be. Stop planning your life down to the hour and live it. Enjoy it. Every minute of it. Please.

sitting by a window
staring out the smudged pane
past the polychromatic crowds
bent, huddled, faceless in the rain

a smeared image swirling by
modern art painting not yet dry

wishing to nod off
tired to the bone
the rattle and rumble beneath
the stop and the start
keep my weary eyelids apart

the odors of crowded humanity
fill my nostrils,
make them burn
alcohol, sweat, stale cigarette smoke
on clothes that are old and worn

garlic, deep fryer grease
pastrami and cheese in a sack
blood dried on the apron
slung over a butcher's back

a cacophony of noises
surge inside the car
papers rattle, fingers tap
on electronics or on steel bar

~~~
nobody's talking
eyes are downcast
to newspaper, cell phone
or hangnail
fear and distrust
thick in the air
scattered about like
yesterday's mail
on this common commuter carrier
they're traveling the same route
home
just working folks
trying to make it all work out
they have much in common
in a way, aren't they all kin?
worn and weary at end of day,
fellows in the midst of this din?
14th Street station ahead
warns of various dangers
Please do not smile at strangers
I believe this is a real sign. It looks to be in the picture online.
We run across the tracks,
A horde of desperate children.
Our tears are raked off our cheeks
By the wind that slams into our faces.
Crouching, cowering, gritting our teeth,
A fruitless attempt to make ourselves smaller,
To dodge the never-ending stream
Of lead teeth that eat into our flesh.
Gripping the clammy fingers
Of our only hope,
Until they are pummelled into the floor,
And we leave them behind.
We live to impress,
We walk a tightrope every day.
God help you if you fall,
Because you are on your own.
They’ll only hold your hand
If there is something in it.
They don’t love you,
So just keep running.
Running, running,
Stretch out your fingers,
To the other side.
Because when you fail…
Well at least you can say
one part of you made it…
Right?
Open to interpretation, what do you think it is about?
my hometown waits for me
like a lover
on the wrong side of a passing train window.
ill be back
but i wont be the same.
and we'll both be disappointed
in each other.
i look like me
but ive changed a lot
and
but youre exactly the same
