When I dusted off the counter today
I found something that was lost before

Jesus was there by the sink,
sitting down right next to the toaster
he looked at me and asked for a coaster
he and the cherubs were drinking diet soda,
and watching the ants eat my sugar

I asked him three questions
and hear what they are
why are you sitting by the toaster?
why in the hell would you want my coaster?
and
didn't I ask you to leave last summer?

Jesus said he wanted to live in my heart
first the counter
then my heart
what's next Jehova, my first born child?

yes actually he said, before he snorted and growled
I really do want your first born child
would you like a brochure for heaven?
its pretty wild there, and the bread's all unleavened

No thanks
No thanks

You're so soft
so smooth
your skin is like moonlight
and it pulls my heart like a moth to flame

how it hurts, only being able to reach
how it cuts me to pieces to long for you
your body is honey and clouds
and puts me in pain

you're so sweet
but your curves and creases could never be mine
your gentle lips kissing down my chest
the loving pain of nails against my back
we could never be untame

Your hot breath, your panting
your moans are my music
your hips are my rhythm
the love in your eyes is my sugar
Loneliness can cause the mind to wander

Today my friend told me
I was acting strange
I gave her the
excuse
of a sugar high
But really,
...
I was just being
myself

I like sweet things.

They call it "a sweet tooth",
I'd say that's somewhat true.
But my tooth tends to sweeten
Only when my days turn to blue.

The world brings you down...
Then the sugar hits
And for a moment you feel the delicious energy
Surging through your veins.

You feel the dark become a little bit brighter,
And the hues of the blue no longer weigh down as much,
Upon your bruised shoulders.

Sugar just makes the world...
A bit sweeter.
So I'll run on a sugar rush.

I run into a forest with fudge and green frosting trees.
In there I find squirrels made of cheesecake grey sesame.
The acorns are made of candy hard root beer.
Twigs made of cinnamon to my feet adhere.

The ground has bunches of lime gummy grass.
I saw a rabbit of white chocolate run past.
The foot prints were of cocoa divine.
This forest is filled with deserts that seem mighty fine.

I come to a river filled blue raspberry jelly.
That will surely adhere to my belly.
What am I to do with all these treats?
Is it time to run or do I have time to stop and eat?

I see birds made of cookies and cream.
Is this a terrifying nightmare or a beautiful dream?
The snow falls powdered sugar flutters.
Whoops, stepped in droppings made of peanut butter.

Maybe from a chocolatey brown bear.
Just as tame as that white chocolate hare.
I guess I am getting out of here.
All the sugary stuff that will adhere.

Hopefully I do not attract those.
They are red hot fire ants near a cream filled rose.
Though I finally leave.
What just happened I could not believe.

The best part about you leaving
Is forgetting you.
It’s as though the sugar you injected into me
To keep me sweet for you,
And only you,
Is dying off;
Slowly but surely,
Until the only part of you that will
Remain in my body
Is the notch in my heart.

You will always own that
Notch in my heart.
It will always make me care for you,
And make it like my heart always beat for two.
It will always skip a beat
When I see you in the streets.
The smell of burnt tobacco
Will always make my hands tie knots into the bedsheets,
All for you.

I used to believe
That with your sweet honey
Injected into my heart,
I would never be able to forget you,
Much less let you go.
But now, I see that lovers will
Come and go.
You do not own the sweet tune
That makes me undress for you;
And better will come after you.
You leaving hurt, yes,
But without you I am whole.

Tre
I saw us in that moment,
three circles interwine
in a venn diagram.

Making me dry of words,
just because in that moment
I had nothing to make me dark.

I never thought I could find
what I just had a sip of
and I have never been more thirsty.

It's tea with no need for sugar,
It's a perfect milkshake
and an olive in the martini.

Now you tell me,
for my world is lost.
What am I now suppose to write about?

Your favorite thing as a kid: sugar.
Snickers, Milky Way, Hershey kisses
It flows through your body
It sends you into hyperspeed.

Your favorite thing as an adult: sugar
Making multiple trips to the store.
Or just one, and load up.
The day after Halloween is your favorite day.
Candy half price.

Then eventually you look down, realize, "when did my belly get so big I could cradle it?"
You decide that's it no more sugar.
It works for awhile, you lose some weight.
You even stop thinking about it.

Then one day you just can't resist and grab a cookie.
Down the rabbit hole you go.
It makes you feel sick.
Then you think, "Is this sugar kiss worth this?"

Lavender Destinies,
Buried deep in oak coffins,
Drizzled with the richest of honeys,
Fermenting like a deep, sweet wine,
Grinding deeply into a bitter reality,
Cocoa bean colored thighs,
Coupled with a love that caramelized like brown sugar,
Rooted deep in the very soil,
There was something so very empty about us,
Maybe it was loneliness,
Like a bitter fruit,
So empty and so alive,
The art of smoke,
A talent so vivid it is best seen in the dark,
Hearts softened like wax by the gentle light,
Cascading,
Such a harsh word for such a soft feeling,
Fireflies and twinkling embers,
That is your warmth,
Distant but full,
The ability to do nothing but freeze while the world burns.
