Poetry is romance in the mind
A conduit, to the changing  faces of truth
A careful way—to convey
Our exaltations—
of vision and beauty
Of duality and love
Of moment and memory
Of the heavens— above
To strive with hopeful humility
Of shaping and elevating— words
For connection, for visibility
For just a glimpse of that perfect light
That soft brief touch—of the divine

Anger found me early on
Pain came with conception
Love could never quite make a connection
A prime concoction
To fuel a blind rage and hide direction
Like an infection
Who's creation
Did I step in?
Am I the lead in this production,
Or just a reflection?
I'll need to reflect on
Even the parts of me I hate on
But hold on...
Do I want the answers to this particular question?
That's the cliff hanger,
Stay tuned for the conclusion

I want to build a home with you
a place pieced together of words,
passed from you to me.

Eventually, the walls will breathe,
and they, too, will whisper
through our bones.

No matter how old we get,
they will still be there.

Although neither of us will
completely own this home,
what we will own
is how it makes us feel
and the memories we'll soon sit on
like furniture.

A place we'll come to spend
most of our time,
an inner standing
that it will house both of us,
no matter how we choose
to express ourselves.

The first meal we'll have,
I'll season with my smile
so you can taste what I taste
and feel what I feel
when I see you.

Then you'll understand
why I have nothing to hide,
why I open and include you
in different places in my life.

In this home I want to build with you,
there isn't a wind or a force
that could blow it down.

Even if we were to separate,
my hands will still remember
how we built it
brick by brick,

the mortar sealed
with a kiss from your lips
Your smell is a warmth
I can’t touch
but feel in every breath.

The air carries your smell to me,
like a secret message
only I can understand.

In every breath,
I feel closer to you,
as if your essence
is the thread
that weaves us together,
stitching my soul to yours.

I want to smell you even more,
to breathe you in even closer,
to let your presence
fill every part of me.

I want to live in a world
where your scent is the atmosphere,
wrapping me in a love so deep,
where the universe itself
holds us together.
The pupil of your eye
is like a black hole—
please consume me with your pupil
and make me eternally yours.

Yes, I know
even black holes evaporate.
But fear not,
for I will evaporate with you,
into eternity.
Sometimes, I will hug you,
hold you so tightly
with the force of love—
like the force of gravity
fusing atoms inside the sun.

Our souls will merge,
radiating light
to the galaxies.

Other times, I will hold
just a single finger of yours,
and it will feel like the spark
that starts a chain reaction
in a nuclear reactor—

powerful enough
to ignite a warmth
that spreads through every part of me,
filling my world
with light and heat.

There once was a girl
Whose face said it all
Tears streaming down her face
She no longer carries herself with grace
Could it be heartbreak?
A bad day at work?
Perhaps that’s all that there is
A mix of pain with deep longing
For someone or something
But who and what?
Curiosity spurred on inside of me
And I decided to act
Either now or never

Sitting next to this girl now
My eyes instantly lock with hers
I silently mutter to her,
“What happened?”
But all I hear is silence
The kind of silence
That sends shivers down your spine
And I can’t help but feel it
In the deepest parts of my soul
So much so,
That I see my reflection in her eyes
When I felt scared and lonely
Waiting for someone to save me
But not this time, no

At last, I put my hand on hers
Speaking out from under my breath
With the words
“Everything will be okay”
And that’s all she needed to hear
To become like herself again

Electricity buzzes through my mind
Surging in my stomach and onto
Every cell of my body ignites by the thought
Of you and your lips on mine
As each and every word you muttered
Lingers on my racing mind

A dangerous feeling to remember
Your hand holding mine
Something so comforting yet
Juxtaposed by the nervousness of
Butterflies; their wings batting against my focus
As I cling onto your arms

Memory of each engagement leaves me
Engulfed thinking of your skin on mine
Your voice in my ear; my thoughts are
Covered with your residual trace
Yearning for a mutual exchange of
Thought unburdened by niceties

Pure enchantment of novelty and security
Mingling with the clashing of reality and fantasy
Aching for your presence, just biding my time
Until our paths finally intertwine
Interlocking puzzle pieces creating
Familiarity by your side as our ideas mingle and collide

You lie awake,
Late at night,
Heart quakes,
And constricts you tight.
You get a text on your phone,
From a friend that you know,
Your feelings of being alone disappear.
They ask you,
“Wanna hang out on Saturday?”
The beginning of your doom,
As your brain goes insane.
You question whether you should go,
Dream up excuses to keep you stuck at home,
Yet, you wonder why you feel so alone,
Nobody’s fault but your own.

It’s the crisis of connection,
Those nasty thoughts in your head,
That make you feel like you’re too boring,
For a meaningful friend,
So you keep the superficial ones,
Those that fade,
In a vain attempt to save you from the pain.

You say you feel alone,
Like no one cares,
Yet when they try,
You let your fears control,
And hold you back,
And you know,
That it’s wrong.
You push them away,
You’ll hurt them first before they deal the final blow to you,
You’ve experienced it before,
And you don’t want to feel that way again.
So you build your walls too high,
Where no one can save you,
Cause you trapped yourself inside.
You hope it’s not too late,
To make a window,
So you can see their faces,
And try to change your fate.

It’s the crisis of connection,
That keeps you standing back,
On the sidelines,
Too afraid to attack.
You assume,
Perhaps you were just meant to be alone,
So you stay home,
With your mental contusions.
You don’t know where to go.
So you just stand alone.

You’re not afraid,
To take the road less traveled,
You never fit in anyway,
So why bother?
Just do what you do,
And see where it takes you,
The road might be lonelier than most,
Just hold onto hope.

Perhaps the crisis of connection,
Won’t seem so severe,
In time.
Perhaps building strength,
And faith,
To make self-corrections,
Is the way,
To cross the finish line.
Perhaps the loneliness,
Is a testament to your strength,
Just don’t give up,
Though it may hurt,
I know,
We will find our way.
The life of an introvert, at least to me.
