And you didn’t hold the kittens
They held you
In the upstairs of your barn
Behind one of the hay bails

Where summer was endless
lake days
holding hands
Climbing trees
And exploring

All of it made us feel like we never needed anything else
But we didn’t know anything else
Where even in the winter
The wood stove was there to help us keep our sunshine
Warm
And
Excited
Who could run the fastest
Who had the most secrets
We were
Terrified
Of the neighbors dog
And how he tore at our heels
If we weren’t fast enough
We were terrified of our older brothers
And how much our bodies didn’t belong to us

Both our fathers were too loud
And our mothers too meek
We
Were each other’s only escape....

There were red ones
That grew just out of the deer’s reach
Behind the best climbing tree
Littered with pots and pans as high as the eye could see
But the special ones
The yellow ones
Required some adventuring
We braved the feared boundaries by your neighbors where that Rottweiler could reach us
Just for something a little sweeter than what we had
But it was never as scary as going home
We would rather risk the snarling demon
Than go home and hear the screaming
Than go home and go to sleep
Only to wake up
And try to convince ourselves What happened in the night

Was a dream.

If you have a friend
who stays with you through your worst
they are a keeper.

Sitting in my house,
Stuck inside, can't play outside
Trapped by a virus
But in the midst, I see Mom
And remember why were fine
written as an english assignment

I the pen chucked in a can
Lay here in anguish the best I can
Usually kept by a business man
I ran dry of ink when snapped in the hand
Written as part of an essay, mostly as a joke

everything in life is tech-ordered,
in this age of mega-multitasking,
the brain poorly functions, so in its defense,
the brain leans on learned reflexive behaviors

she, on the couch, cashmere blanket covered,
the Tv platform reconstituted as a drone,
a politician in front of a camera pontificating,
while she scans the Ipad, and both me and god,
don’t know what more she might need (to buy)

so when I stroke her legs, to give
added heat to her fiber-edged warming,
I do it more than once to test my theoretical,
she responds repeatical, unhesitatingly “hello my love”

after the fourth or sixth testing,
she looks up, ears perking, sensing,
knowing, something is afoot (a-legged?)
quizingly asking, “ok, what’s up?”

I smile, and explain most rationally,
that in furtherance of my current poem,
now underway, I was testing my leitmotif,
that even love benefits from proper training
<>
no, I will not show her this poem,
lest she show me in return,
her new self-improvement,
her recently-learned-at-home,
mindful, meditative training in

kickboxing skills.

I did not know love
Until it was so obvious in front of me

I did not know I was supposed to feel special all the time
Until you made it known how important I was to you

I did not know love was what you called
An everlasting happiness
A reason to smile without having a reason

I thought I had it before, but it was not that
It was young and sloppy
It was about my comfort and not the meaning.

I know it well now,
But it wasn't until after
It was pushed in my face.

And now it's all I see.

My best friend and I have stuck together through everything
Each break up
Each hard time
Each insecure moment
Each happy moment
Girls breaking his heart
Guys breaking mine
Each night when our minds are overthinking
And it becomes too much
We know we can contact each other
Each time we fall in love with someone we always ask for advice
It's always I hope they love you
We have always supported each other
The advice my best friend left me was...
You are worthy
Guys don't understand how great you are
My best friend has always reminded me of my worth
My best friend has always valued our friendship
Just when I think I am not worth it
My best friend brings me back
You have an amazing heart
That's what my best friend tells me
There is a movie my best friend had me watch
It reminded me a lot about our lives in a way
I think one of my favorite memories with my best friend was
That car ride on the way to our friend's house
And we vibed to music and made fun of street names
Get yourself a best friend like mine
That reminds you of your worth
That would do anything for you
And support you
Thank you to my best friend
For being the shoulder I can cry on all last year
For supporting the decisions I made even though they were not great
For being there to catch me even when you warned me
This one is for you

I yearn for days wasted in my youth
Had not known the value of each one
Wishing back summers hanging from tree limbs
Those unpolluted seasons are done

Dimensions of yesterday remembered in color
Dappled spectrum of greens and blues
Berries picked preciously with eager pleasure
Firm trail wild beneath worn shoes

The thing I wish I knew back then
What matters most is today
Failed to appreciate my younger years
Best times of my life I just let slip away

I can't help but think about it each and every day
Reminiscing about the good old days

The angel of death wears a MAGA hat
And commends the work
Of his marketing and rebranding director
As they synchronize
Their Apple Watches to close
The circles of hell.
The charnel house market is about to boom and
He’ll offer the best capacity at top dollar prices
He’ll pocket the profits and stiff the contractors unless they’re stiffs already.
Even the angel of death might have an ethical quandry with this.
Our differences fade at the cemetery gate
Where we’re being processed like bottles at a redemption center
Where It means nothing unless he can pocket the deposits
And crow about his ratings
about how he’s the best
And if you look for salvation behind an artificial tan
You might as well be dead already
Like the space behind those eyes.

feeling like dead
wanna be dead
but you make me feel alive
i don't know if this is a song, or is it not
but as years grow, my love for you grows
i cannot stop loving you more and more each day
more than you could know, more than you feel
for i love you...
Me and my best friend wrote this one. This is now our poem. Show love to Mr.Seth!
