Poets Love Poets
We love a good introspection.
A lot of thinking-outside-the-box
a dash of sponaneity with a pinch
of romance.
A lot of pondering, wandering
wondering and pandering.
We crave intimacy and to woo we say,

"Look at my poetry."

Our minds are wired differently.
We tend to see things not as they are
but what they can be.
We are silently affectionate but rarely
spout off our poems in public.
We love deeply, fall hard and
live out our lives according to our
composition books.

Knowledge is Power
The mainstream media feeds us lies.
Our food companies feed us chemicals.
Schools conform to the government.
The government is run by corporations.
We are taught to obey, work and consume.
Are we free?
No.

Can we do something about it?
YES!

Question EVERYTHING.
If you don't know something
look it up because
knowledge is **power.
I have recently been awakened, thus I must search endlessly for the truth.

Ourselves
I think we love
who we do because
we see ourselves
in them.
This is not the Victorian Era.
Let my body wander where it wants to.
I have no desire to be trapped
like a mouse in the grip of a boa constrictor.
I want to feel free to love
however I want to.

My Passion
Crawling through my mind,
I came upon a light.
It flickered like a candle
but it could never be snuffed.
This is my passion.
It's fire burns deep within me.
Next time you see me,
I dare you to look into my eyes.
Two roads diverged in a wood and I,
I took the one most travelled by
and that has made me regret my decision.

Sorry Descartes
I'm sorry Descartes,
but humans are not just machines.

We have feelings and we have love.
We can actually recognize a blue sky above!

We have families that truly care
and yes, we have quite a bit of hair.

If that wasn't enough to start,
we all have a loving and generous heart.

I include the swear word because sometimes there must be a bit of emphasis to make literature interesting.

Enough.
The scratched iron cooking ***
full of my mom's beliefs

spilling its spoiled contents
onto the scratched hardwood.
In a firm tone, the word rolled off my tongue.
**"Enough."
Mom, I am not you. I will not live according to your desires. You can't force me to stay here, so I won't. This poem speaks of a clash between my liberal and my mom's conservative beliefs.

Plastic Bags
I'm pretty sure I have
at least five plastic bags
in my room.

We are a consumer society.
The very person who
despises corporations
and condemns chain restaurants
has the audacity to do so
when she has plastic bags
flooding her room and meandering between
the piles of clothing.
I question my legitimacy everyday.
It all started when I cleaned my room.

To Depart
My time has come to depart.
We shall not be apart
for long.
Ah, that aching feeling of a goodbye. The absence eats you from the inside out. I will see him soon. Just reflection. :)
An old man sits on a bench.
He says nothing.

I walk by.
I gaze into his eyes.
Now I know why he's silent.
Some people don't need to say a word because their eyes can tell you their lifestory.

Reality (by Ellen Ryder)
What is our reality?
Bulging waistlines and burger joints?
Sweatshops and religious fights?
Our poisoned food system and corporate profits?
Our jailrate is as high as Mao and Stalin.
These revolving doors and corruptions cannot blind us anymore.
We, the people, deserve to know.
People who hate, depreciate.
The fact is, who can we trust?
Certainly not our bankers,
but what about the Chief Executive Officers,
full of evil and greed?
What about Rana Plaza and Tazreen?
Burning bodies to ash.
And they can get away with
burning bodies?
There was the Holocaust
and then...
there was now.
I saw this girl's poem and automatically related to it. Thank you Ellen for letting me use this poem...although I wish you didn't go. :(

Happiness Revealed
Dear everyone,
Happiness does not

Those that feel that they need to lose weight to please others are wrong. Don't look at a scale. Live your life how YOU want because you have no one to please but yourself.

The Illusion of Plenty
Yesterday a phrase popped into my head
while I was working.
It was, "the illusion of plenty."
I work in a grocery store
and everyday I am shocked
at the number of people
I see on foodstamps.

The US should stop worrying
about foreign wars because people
in our own country
are losing the war
against poverty.
All I saw was
I like you and
Trust your own self.
I grinned.

I look down my depressing poem
in disgust
in abhorrence.

What was I thinking last night?
Of course I am loved.
Even if it's not in my daily life
at least it's on here.
This is a shoutout to my friends Shivani and Tim for dragging me back from the terrible depression state I was in last night. I don't know how to thank you both. :)

we must teach love,
for every religion on our entire planet
bonds through acts of love.

Love is paramount and universal.

Without it, we would not be living.

We Must Help
Depression.
We, as a society,
should step back
and evaluate this word.

What are we doing
that causes people
to cut themselves
or throw themselves
off of bridges?

Are we really so selfish
as to overlook these people?

They are fighting a battle
that we can't even fathom
playing out in their heads.
The casualties, the blood,
everything is real to them.

I will continue to utter,
"We must help"
until it becomes a roar
of people demanding
to give them a second thought.

We must help them.

No more lives should
slip through the cracks.
