You were not the
Monarchs fluttering
in my womb. Just a
consequence of drinking
too much. They drowned
in the regrets I swallowed.

But some nights
I ***** the memories
wrapped in cocoons
and place them in old
shoe boxes.

And someday when I am sober
I will untape the wound,
release the butterflies,
and set myself free.

it’s difficult to watch his steps in the dark.
and even harder to catch him when he
falls and you look into his clouded
eyes as see an empty room
forged by walls built with
regret. oh, how you
wish you were
enough to
tear them
down.

The world is way different with my sober eyes.
And I can’t explain the simple beauty I see watching birds fly.
I’ve missed out on so much these past 5 years.
But now is my chance to raise an empty glass and say cheers.
For all of us dealing with life at the moment.
I know now that we all have a chance for atonement.
You may not know me and that’s okay.
But if you need me I’ll be a kind stranger and hold your hand the whole way.

You know I quit the ****,
Poured out all the liqour.
All I really need
Is sunshine in the morning.
Because the
fuzzy feelings you
Give me,
Make me wanna
stay sober.
So I can ensure
That the memories I have of you,
Are never fuzzy.

It was in the warmth
of her body
where I found ecstasy
my fingertips laced
in the spaces between hers
our thumbs painting
each other's palms in subtlety
her head rests on my arm
my head rests on hers
in the midst of each other's surrender

and yet somehow,
even ecstasies
end in sober

You’re wide-eyed blinking at that wall,
You’re on the other side
You’re still shocked n' pretty shook
thinking that you just can’t die

But please don’t be surprised
if the next time
You're staring down
the Sewer’s Porcelain Eye,
The clock strikes 12,
it chimes for midnight
But this time
you don’t make it out alive

No resurrections
No second tries
You already used them all up
On the times you OD’ed
All alone on those
Solemn weekday nights

So better luck next time
In this game we call life
Because this time
you ****** up;
Made mistakes so bad
even I couldn’t revise

Well I guess this is me,
They say once you’ve hit rock bottom you can only go upwards,
Well I hit the rock and pushed up into my mind,
Revealed the sky and shot up into the night.
Though all the scars and torture I’ve trodden those that are tattooed on my skin,
The mud might have weighed down my boots but I’m stronger now than I ever have been.

A somewhat sober somebody, turning my life into something instead of melting into another nothing.

The old me was numb and high.
The new me is sober and dry.
Do you like this version?
Neither do I.
It’s been 6 years
of this viscous cycle,
it was eating me alive.
But what is life
if not just a never ending cycle
of training our mind
until we

                              die.
