The cave, a discovered diary.
Rock walls, pages of history.
Etchings and markings
A social commentary,
Buried for an eternity.

Lost in a melee
Of storms and hurricanes
And earthquakes shaking.
Depictions of life,
Of civilization in the making.
Messages chiseled
With muscle and blood,
Signs of existence
Where communities once stood
And thrived on the need
Of food through labours,
The skies, the trees
Their pagan saviours.
Dark rains that poured
Before the construction of Zion,
The shifting of contours,
The shaping of horizons.

Art: the first form
Of true communication.
The observing of omens
Through pictorial narration.
Lessons unlearned,
Warnings unheeded
From a time when the promise
Of future was seeded.
Histories left to benefit man
Before possession was borne
And conflict began.

A legacy left, designed by tribes
From an ancient time
For narrators and scribes.
Their duty to record
An ever-changing world
Through parchment and pigment
And the spoken word,
For future species
Of woman and man
To strategise survival,
To project and to plan.
Knowledge more likely
To be buried, interred,
Then discovered too late
For lessons to be learned

When Summer Ends

When summer ends,
The air is strange, the mood estranged,
Winds begin, heat descends,
One wends one’s way
Across a browning lawn
To go back to the city, town.

Winter coming.
Urban living, job or studies,
Plain old washing dishes humming.
Kids in school again.
It could be you relax again.

When summer ends,
Visits, guests and nature over.
Leisure, in so many ways,
But as in everything, the flip side too.

Summer, fall and winter blends
Into one year
Again
As in
Its antecedents.
Life goes on.

It's August.  Summer is ending.  All the signs are here.

I've always believed in signs.
I've spent way too much time waiting for signs of where to find you.
Give me a sign.
A hint on who you are or where you might be.
A sign on whether you are happy or sharing the kind of loneliness that i'm feeling.
I want to know if you're still out there waiting for me as well.
I need a clue on who my future is.
I need someone i can write about.
I need a name or maybe just a glimpse of what you love, what you hate, or what you look like.
I need to know.
Because i'm sure you're out there somewhere.
I just don't know if it's too late or if i may be chasing after the wrong person all along.

In these few days
Nothing feels right
Emptiness you had felt
revealed itself that night
Our unanswered questions
Starting with no good byes
Was unclear for us to realize
That we didn't see the signs
Slowly, the truth unfolds
to the pain you had felt
It trickles into our hearts
What more could we had done

If only you had said...
yet you did...
It was so settle...
Maybe you found the answers you needed
I just wish you would of shared it
Cause here we all are now
With no answers
In this time of healing

Please know,
that we Love You
Please know,
that we all would of helped
If only you had asked

There was a time when hello meant hello
and
Goodbye meant goodbye.
There were no acronyms,
No abbreviations,
No such thing as hints.
Now, I can't tell if goodbye means "Goodbye" or "See you later,"
and
I can't tell if hello means hello or "Hey, this is temporary."
There was a time when greetings were greetings and not gang signs,
There was a time when the word love was not so overused and at the same time it is not used enough.
At the end of the day everything is blank and you do not know if the last thing you said was important or irrelevant
Because
Today, you do not know if hello means hello
and
Goodbye means goodbye.
I'm confused.

Gazing at the moonlight
Shining and bright
I look out for signs
To get some respite
With the blowing wind
With the vibrating chime
I look out for signs
To keep me alive
With the tides on the shore
I think how much of myself I should be feelingly yours
As I battle with deciphering this code
I feel my heart all alone
As I look out for signs
Deep and Deep I fall into them
Alas I find no answer no respite

I'm still trying to understand
how the sky emerges the signs to make meaning
how the star interacts with other stars
how the moon portrays the gestures
but I love to see the lamps in every corner of house from the window
and I think this is the language of light in the night

I was born with dollar signs on my back
As if that is all I would ever be worth
As if that was all I would ever be good for
The amount splayed under my fingernails
From digging into my skin
A gold mine that was never mine
A land mine I'd one day die in.
I was a wealth of potential
And then expectations
And then disappointment
And then simply vibrations
Of thoughts and feelings
Constant worries
A jackpot siren of insecurity
A lottery I was born to win
Where winning meant spending
The last of my birth
On a life too cheap
To mean anything
And a lifetime of work
To make it cost more
