my* neglected heart
so frayed, so dry, so weary
only longs for *
love
Emma May 2014
My tears are rubies
My heart is a diamond
My hands are merely leaves

Cracked and dry
They lie still

The sand slides through them
And hits the ground

It doesn't move
And now I know
The sand is gold
Of course, an alternative ending to the last paragraph is It doesn't move, And now I know, It is dead and hollow like all other things. But that's kind of depressing.

...

silence
-like a rainstorm-
frees my arid soul

You've broken my heart,

You've made me cry,

I should be bitter (Shouldn't I?)

But I'm still alive,

And I've realized,

You'll never be less,

In my eyes.

When you ask,

Why you're still alive,

I'll answer with,

"Because you shouldn't die"

You'll change your ways,

But not for long,

I'll ask you why,

and you'll ramble on,

about how you feel,

and with a tear in my eye,

I'll say,

"Enough! Please!

Don't make me cry!"

You'll try to change,

Yet once again,

But you'll grab that bin,

Wanting to be thin,

You'll cry out,

Ana wins.

I'll come back,

I won't give up hope,

I know somehow,

Maybe, you'll cope,

Maybe, someday, you'll make it through,

Because I can't, without you.

I know you still have it,

That urge,

To grab the blade,

I know it's a feeling,

You'll never evade.

But if I could tell you one thing,

Dear,

It would be,

Do not fear.

The Lord will help you,

And so will I,

So do not cry,

Dry your eyes.
This was written for my best friend, who is struggling with anorexia (Ana) and suicidal thoughts.

Paper thin top soil
Cracks seep through
Red dirt.
Bloodless gashes
Simmering summer soil
Baked turf.
Rolled gold haze
Aches as the
Country stretches its skin-
Near breaks
******* teeth
******* itches
Red earth fit-
              To burst in a
Dark cloud of dust,
Choking soft as to soak
The moisture fresh
From your lungs.

Blinding blue sky
Set for worship
On a tall horizon
Too far, too high
For common souls-
                  To float on a
Breath of sweet dry air,
Eternal journey to sunset
Small piece of a dream
To chase a grey cloud
From sky to west.

Where subterranean
Creeks used to slip by
Rise in a ***** of land
Where water once carved
                          Its roam
Now the winds sweep
All traces away
Back toward the sea,
And fair beyond
The aching dry eyes
Of the sons of
This red earth,
A mist lies awake
And prays for rain.
Sky
Sky, oh won't you cry
And sing a song of sadness
Rain and run the risk.

Our winter is brown grass
like the great plains,
the band with ice cold wind
for a lead singer

Our winter is a
barren land of detail,
Unlike the typical purity
of yours.
