Choosing a major is hard, especially when there are so many options and you want to explore and experience everything.
JR Rhine Oct 2016
I perused through the catacombs
gliding my fingers along your innumerate spines,
picked you up where you blossomed in my palm
and breathed archaic mysteries into my face.

I felt myself trembling
as I dared enter the hallowed corridors,
opening doors and peeking inside
in hopes to catch a semblance of your touch,
your taste,
your voice.

A fingerprint,
a coffee stain,
clues and the origins of bricolage
that left me breathless
and teary-eyed
as the weight of this sacred place
bore itself entirely upon me.

A part of your soul
encased within each one of your treasures:

I heard your stereo in a jazz history,
heard you ponder within Dostoyevsky,
saw your wry smile and charm within Fleming,
and your humor within Vaudeville--

and as I perused onward,
and the archetype bore itself naked in a holy privilege,
I closed myself within that impalpable bubble
and wept at the gates of Eden.

As I removed my hands from your ribcage,
and withdrew the breath from your nostrils,
walking away with your words and fragments of your soul
I soon realized--

You Are What You Read.
Thank you for everything, Professor Barrett. Rest easy, comrade.

I stand here
looking fear
straight in the eyes

afraid-
to say hello
I wonder if they'd
hear me

when I stand here
I wonder
if they see me

They ******* off
like I
never existed

how am I
to understand

when I never get
a second glance
when I yell
and don't get a
response

Afraid-
to say hello
I wonder if they'd
hear me

but
it's time
to be heard

it's time
for me to raise my voice
because

I have something
on my mind
that I haven't had a chance
to say

and it shouldn't
be this way.

Coffee and a Klonopin,
I've been thinking hard
on just how long it's been
You--me, me and you
I pop another one in
and you say it's cool.
But I've been so cold,
baby
These things are my seeds
they let me grow, baby.
Nothing feels right.
Blame it on the pills,
I've been seeking thrills, baby
sitting with some
hennesy on the floor,
just to stop the chills, baby.

I've heard people who are away from each other say-
"at least we're under the same sky"

but we're not,
because it doesn't rain here the way it does back home,
the sun isn't warm enough to tingle my bones.
the sky here bends to meet buildings and towers,
not the hills and mountains and their wonder

So I say-
*"but we're not. the sky here is different."
college life isn't as fun as i thought it'd be.

Among stone walls,
And sunlit lawns
With trees that light glosses,
I am a scenery.

There's a fresh new currency
In the world,
But maybe it isn't so new,
We pay each other attention,
And collect bills
From our needy companions.

I lose myself,
In the chaotic storm
Of the attention economy,
I lose myself,
And become a person
I like to keep in the closed room
I go to therapy in.
There's children's art
Everywhere,
So I fit in,
I'm the sculpture of a man,
Who never grew out
Of jealousy and revenge.

But in a mystical land,
Where our property is made up
Of wit, and hate, and chaotic tendencies,
My other side
Comes out,
As hungry for payment as the next
Person.

I try to explain to myself,
I don't mind,
I'm enough for myself,
But we are creatures
With a herd dynamic,
And I fall into
The pyramid scheme,
That is
The attention economy.

I feel like an adult,
An adult is what I am.
Responsibilities,
Someone to come home to,
A paycheck,
I have it all
And more.

The desire to start my life
Is palpable,
The strongest feeling I've had,
Yet still so far.
I'm not done being a child,
A child is what I am.

He neither attended any college, nor did he go to school
He didn’t even know to read and write, I just labelled him as a fool...
But when I had a talk with him, he proved me wrong...
Behind stupid attire, he possessed knowledge
I can never extract, even if I study lifelong...

That day I learned an important thing,
Harsh realities of life teach you much better,
Than what they teach you at school...
And if you think you can survive this world only with theoretical knowledge,
You are no genius but just an arrogant fool...

At last I just want to thank that uneducated scholar,
For opening my eyes...
And guiding me on the path,
That leads to endless knowledge and ultimate truth of life...
In daily life, you often come across some people who change the way you look at things. Yes! I met such a person. He's not someone with higher education. Instead, he's a simple worker who struggles hard to feed his family. Still, he managed to impress me with his knowledge and wits. At last, i want to thank that uneducated scholar once again...
Sorry I haven't written any poems lately, I've been extremely busy
it's my senior year of high school and I've been really busy
with college applications, senior events, etc
speaking of college applications, I've been accepted into the
University of Kansas, Wichita State University and
University of Iowa so it's a great year so far
so again, sorry for the lack of poems, I will be back
with new content soon....

next to the mirror plate and the advil.
