Don’t take my anger
Let me drink from it
Not burning oil
But fuelling fire
Being rich with passion
Not searing hot in my skin from rage
It is my conductor for injustice
My compass to things that I hold dear
Navigating me through what is always referred to as troubled waters.
To be indifferent is to not feel strongly
like having no affect to gnats biting at your skin
To be numbed to something so imperative
So important
To not be proactive
Not just reactive
What a waste of the human experience
How naive to think of it as loud words and exaggerated arms
It’s just as powerful in a whisper and a leap
As focused as a hawk
And as small but as strong as a singular ant.
The brightness of the stars and the power of the waves are within me
Born, bred and thrumming
This is my anger
And it is my strength.

You lie
And you blame
And it’s my fault
AGAIN

Every day
It’s the same.
Nothing will change.

“I’m doing my best”
The anthem you will always sing

But if your best can be chopped down by your own sad excuses
And fall with a crash
Leaving me in your wake
And the eternity you promised to create...
“Best”
Is a lie
Is it one you’re telling yourself all the time?

Well maybe it’s a shame in the weekend
To toil aimlessly about dreams in bed
Counting sheep only lasts for so long
And maybe it’s a shame to waste the day

Someday we’ll be alive
More than we are right now
Someday we’ll start a fight
Let’s end our show with a bow

And we’ll close it out with a round of applause
They’ll look to us
Because we’ll be their stars
Right now we’re young and we’ll never grow old
But even if we do
We stand with the bold

i disavow my allegiance to the flag,
& to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
for we are not one people,
we are not united,
we do not live in love,
& we are unfortunately serviced.

what does the future hold for my Bahama land?
with our resources not being utilized for the betterment of our people...
but being sold to non-Bahama land.
no profits being aimed to,
or sources being owned by
our Bahama man.

as i lift my head to the rising of the sun in this Bahama land,
i see no hope for the future, no hope in my Bahama land.
no one to speak up,
the youth are out of luck.
the elders show no interest,
we are doomed.
still,
we march on to the glory..
but what bright banners do we have to wave high?
the means of the leaders are of no significance,
& i can no longer bear the pain that i witness.
how will we excel
if we do not love,
& unite?
going forward,
will we stand together
for a common, loftier goal?
as i lift up my head to the rising sun in my Bahama land;
i see anguish,
i see fear &
leaders with no care.
all the things i see are broad.
...but may the road that my people trod
lead us to our God,
that will help us on this march to save our Bahama land.
an angry poet's twist on the Bahamian national pledge & national anthem.

Around me the world buzzes
As everyone speaks and no one
Listens,
And my silence kills me

When I'm right,
I'm quiet
When I'm wrong,
I'm quiet
When I'm asked,
I'm quiet
When I'm told,
I'm quiet

And these thoughts ricochet
Around behind the mask

Of mediocrity and submission
That I wear
for the
world

And the more I hear,
The more I think,
The less I say,
The faster I rot away

Bow to the flags that wave in the wind
Swear your souls to the country that never dies
Morality is a curse; that present we've sinned
Destruction of the flower that ever so tries

Stand up before the trumpets that beckon your name
May we look before the land that shows a desolate fate
The ultimate replacement of joy is fame
So forget your body at the field; it's already too late

Let this be our anthem against the enemies of good
And do not feel sorry for a little bloodshed
You'd rather be living than with the dead
Replicating peace is something nobody ever could.

Left my heart in one with you
now, it's in two.

I return to find
the foundation
of my life

Ripped up
Roses clipped
The garden
closes in
a bed of grey

I return to find
the foundation
of my life

Removed professionally
Disconnected
Cautiously clamped, and taken
from the veins

Why!?

You're the
empty
meadow
in my
memory

The tome forgotten
The lost home

Why!?

Ani - mos - ity
grows over time
Ani - mos - ity
grows old and cold

I plead my case
to time,
"Be kind."

Thunder:
the resounding,
"No."

I return to find
the foundation
of my life

Ripped up
Roses clipped,
the garden
spoiled
under your shoes

Left my heart in one with you
now, it's in two.

I am a little note,
A voiceless sound.
Until I am embrace life,
I shall stay bound.
But lend me to an artist
and then you shall see,
How he'd mix me with his mayhem
so a symphony I can be.
But if I wished, then I
could be a patriot's song;
the anthem you people would sing,
but that won't be for long.
Because the next time you hear
I'll be a melancholic tone,
tearing your heart apart,
as you stare at walls alone.
Or I could be a joyous rhythm
to make your soul smile,
or to make you tap your feet
and forget the world for a while.
For I am just a note;
you thoughts, I can vocalize.
Deciphered only by the heart
and not the brain of someone wise.

anthems sweet as honey
a cup overflowing
break the power of money

it is now or never
a short life i have
the width of my hand
oh YHVH save this land
from now until forever

drag the thorns from our flesh
make us whole
our parched souls now fresh

our governors hunger for power
they mimic mammon
but the Lord our satisfying Power

bring my heart to tears
make it after Your own
a love that tears all fears
to save the lost at any cost
bless those spiritually in arrears

oh YHVH, i beseech Thee
you have been so good to me
parch our land from greed
that we may wealthily drink from Thee

may this psalm that leaked from my hand
bring praise to YHVH in every land
"My life is no longer than the width of my hand" -- Psalm 39:5

This poetic psalm may be used anywhere - whether you want to send it to loved ones, colleagues, or even for lyrics, you are most welcome to, as long as you don't claim it as your own and keep it anonymous. May this prayer bring many blessings to our countries.
