"uns" poems
Rolling down St. John's Heritage Highway
after Sean, my grandson's birthday party
I belt out my pioneer song with vigor
echoing across the vast beauty,
wide open, sacred spaces
pristine vistas
Norman Rockwell cows grazing
in bygone pastures happily
moo along
Driving past the yellow deer crossing sign
Florida woodlands giddyap near the edge of the road
long brown antlers prancing to
a timeless rhythm
I hope and pray that I can somehow
kindle a spark of appreciation
in my niece and grandsons
so that they may behold
the baffling greatness
and mystery that is our universe
These young'uns are mighty attached to the
virtual reality, world and landscape
of computer technology
A sprinkling of cowboy stars flash
an omnipresent wink
Sunset bonfire explodes across
the frontier horizon
Turning the corner onto Emerson Drive
smoldering scarlet orange embers
reflecting lights
shoot fireworks, launch rockets
through an ever expanding field of vision

Sometimes I feel **** alien, even in the
Most familiar of surroundings.
Instead of spinning, pointing,
Naming everything Home,
I shut myself, and turn inward.
Day after day the first one at a
New school in a foreign country,
As far from a cool kid as the
Overweight teacher's pet with a
Stutter. I don't even know how to
Speak my own name in their
Incomprehensible language.
Nothing here is for me, and
At least E.T. had a home to phone; all
I have is the space i possess as I walk
Through it, eyes firm on borrowed
Footing. No single road leads to my
Rome, and somewhere inside the
Timelessness of my innermost, the
Old, old man watches the young'uns
Talking, dressing, adressing,
Preferring, doing it all the way
Young'uns do, with pale, tired eyes
And simply just
Can't, -tries, but- just doesn't
Understand.

Wrote this eons ago, tonight, once more,
spend some human capital, editing...
Something to think about
as we tuck ourselves in.
the young'uns keep on asking me for tips,
secrets, to this art, magical poetry gig,
as if I had any left unrevealed.
recalled this old'n,
from a vintage poetry year,
as a suggestion,
a stating-starting place,
for young poets:
do not self-chain,
let the words take you
where
they lead, write them up
for the rhyme is waiting,
in the heart chest deep down,
not on the screen.
I read you Goodnight Moon,
Falling asleep beside you.
<•>
People stop rhyming...
When first you overcome your fears,
And dare to put on paper your tears,
Give it up, set yourself free from the shackles,
Of thinking a rhyme is a necessity for a
Rooting tooting writing of a
**** good poem
or a barrel of
crackles
If you feel lost,
Want to share the cost,
Feel not bossed,
By a newbie's need
to believe that if it rhymes
Everyone will like your poem
Just fine
And if you get past this stage,
And advance to the next page,
Do not think that writing down a sentence of
Your mind's first up, innermost thoughts,
Is something that will make you
Less lost, heralded, worthy of a parade,
And be blessed with an A
In your Teacher's pet grade book
My heart broke.
I feel bad.
I feel sad
Cause my man/woman left me
And I hope
Someone kicks his or her ***
That Ain't No Poem Neither...
And if you can't help but complain repeatedly
How life ***** and you're feeling blue
extremely indiscreetly,
Don't make me try on your scribblings
intimately indiscriminately,
Read a million, even wrote a few myself
You think you can write?
Then employ a word outside your comfort zone,
Go it alone,
Write just four sentences that will make
The hopeful reader stand up and you,
Twice as much, and shout
**Hallelujah *******
Work. Poetry is work. Hard work.
Don't fret. But, think on it.
Let it come easy, then let it rest,.
Then spend days editing every comma,
And when you love it so much,
You are chest busting bursting,
Why have you not pressed Send already?
Have the sweetest dreams.
In the morning, when you but awake,
A poem will be aborning in thy mind,
And dare I say it, you will find a new freedom
In free verse.
(I know you will slip in a rhyme or two,
I can't help but do it too)
G' nite!

**** SAUSAGE!
*** and drugs and sausage rolls.
When once them drugs did get me.
*** crept up discreetly.
And bit me hard upon the ***
The sausage rolls were palatable.
At times, I had the munchies.
Them drugs were very pleasant.
When I was rather young.
Now at fifty years old.
To take them drugs.
I would be bold or rather stupid.
Bring on ****** cupid.
Much more ****** fun.
The *** is bearable now and then.
But only with some weird men.
Always find the wrong uns.
Guess what?
A lesson learned.
Leave the drugs.
Miss not the ***
Make sure them sausage rolls ain't burned!

(on a Black Saturday)
Sun beams touch the lustrous shells of
the capiz chime, dazzling the eyes and mind,
the walls on both sides of the big window are
newly painted, immaculately white, so bright,
....the pink blooms of the bougainvillea,
humbly bowed for almost two weeks now,
have turned to a faded brown.......wilting...
the strange nest had fallen, and gone
the young of the yellow green-breasted birds
have grown, flown away...all have found
............other trees to perch on
the sweet sop tree quivers
from its heavy fruits and birds on branches
enjoying their meal of fruits...ripe and juicy,
leaving some for the bats at night
a striped yellow cat rests on a shaded part
of the roof...i patiently wait for daddy long legs
to come out from the gutter...but in vain...
...paint still wet?...scent too strong, maybe?
maybe, the gravel and pebbles on the ground
weigh too much...did i unknowingly bury them?
i am missing the spectacle of an earthworm,
..........emerging from under the soil
big ants are restless...driven out...roaming,
the bricked wall's natural tan-beige shade
has surfaced...concrete wall is too hot...
these bricks, must be repainted white, as well
the ants, the spiders, the earthworms,
the bats, make their own preparations,
why can't we human beings do the same?
we prefer to suffer the consequences, and
deal with the results of unpreparedness:
el nino, earthquakes, unwanted people,
la nina, unexpected decisions, unwanted
changes...and all sorts of crazy "uns,"
townhouses have risen on my street
strange faces of new neighbors
......pass me by...
......as i write...
the worst heat of summer is yet to come...

Liebes-Lied (“Love Song”)
by Rainer Maria Rilke
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch
How can I withhold my soul so that it doesn’t touch yours?
How can I lift mine gently to higher things, alone?
Oh, I would gladly find something lost in the dark
in that inert space that fails to resonate until you vibrate.
There everything that moves us, draws us together like a bow
enticing two taut strings to sing together with a simultaneous voice.
Whose instrument are we becoming together?
Whose, the hands that excite us?
Ah, sweet song!
Original text:
Liebes-Lied
Wie soll ich meine Seele halten, daß
sie nicht an deine rührt? Wie soll ich sie
hinheben über dich zu andern Dingen?
Ach gerne möcht ich sie bei irgendwas
Verlorenem im Dunkel unterbringen
an einer fremden stillen Stelle, die
nicht weiterschwingt, wenn deine Tiefen schwingen.
Doch alles, was uns anrührt, dich und mich,

There are those down the bookies and them in the butchers and they're all a bit hooky, a right bunch of wrong 'uns,
young guns.
The police don't have a clue, but you know what?
they're all tooled up too, and what for?
for a war on the streets
blood down the drains,
making widows of wives who'll spent the rest of their lives looking through the curtains on lonely window panes watching blood down the drains.
Reminds me of what's behind me,
back in the days when crazy paving was the craze and the grass was covered in cartoon concrete,
I'd take a seat by the bow front and look out on the car, a Singer Chamois which was green, seen it parked in front of the house on crazy paving where there used to be grass through which no water was able to pass into the water table and so having to go somewhere it went down the drains, a waste of an element because we had no brains.
Hooky's not new it's what some people are and what some people do, we try and we die or we thirst for and win, but I always did think that to waste was a sin and now it is blood down the drains because we've all been trained, it's an army out there and they've got to go somewhere and the drains are open to all.

Correrias loucas do ser humano,
Engano e desengano,
Povos, novos mundos,
Adormecidos em sonos profundos.
Pessoas se torturam e consomem.
Uns nem sabem seu nome,
Pensadores sem direito, idolatrados em v|\ao,
Religiosos sem ter religi\ao...
As pessoas pouco labutam,
Algumas hist]orias at]e se escutam,
Pessoas da sociedade singular,
S\ao janelas deitadas ao luar..

one--two--covered streams,
staining palms of the undiscovered,
they have holes in ears--for you--their mouths are wide--wide--open--!
yet they hide 'neath tender shield.
peekaboo, I don't see you.
for the flowers cry not for the see-ers,
but for the cut and tears.
bite into your wrist,
and watch the ache and finished work flow,
into ******* and tired vocab,
as it is merely zilch you're destined to grow.
wide--wide open,
yet you bawl not,
how will you get your food now, O dear?
simply let the ocean run hot.
they will not bother with whiners,
whose lips that starve,
the words now old timers,
and the blood that was carved.
dig deep--dig deep, my love,
and find nothing but ash.
die penniless--die penniless, O dove,
and thrive on the sunken ****
they drink eulogies,
from soft gray tongues,
and murmur carelessly,
for the young-uns.
the world won't wait--
forever moves it--
**** the weak--the hard workers,
and take up the one shot-ers.
simply how the horse drinks it's water,
and how the earth soaks in rain.
nothing--nothing--nothin' but minor,
and disappointing.
simplicity rings the loudest bell,
and thought sings drooping tunes.
for the world hides not and tells.
and blossoms melt in places anew,
merely brainless--brainless--!
and the shield slips from blue.
for now the world is clear,
and doesn't care for the sanguine ruin in those eyes,
let your work fade--let your work fade, my babe,
play peekaboo a little longer, and drag the sword between the lies.

Liebe ist nur ein Gefühl,
doch verspricht sie uns so viel.
Sie steht für Freude und Zusammensein,
denn niemand fühlt sich gern allein.
Ein Gefühl das dir die Lücke füllt,
und dich mit Glücklichkeit umhüllt.
Wenn miteinander schweigen,
für Ewigkeiten reichen,
Und alles rund um dich herum,
wirkt so unnötig und dumm.
Denn das einzige was zählt

Proud and plumptious

Uns,
geht alles gut.
Deine Augen, die hübschesten.
Dein Gesicht, das schönste.
Dein Lächeln, das hellste.
Dein Lachen, der glücklichste.
Dein Geruch, der beruhigende.
(Alles geht mir gut)
Dein Umarmung
Trost.
Deine Stimme
Ruhe.
Dein Kuss
Freiheit.
(Alles geht mir gut)
Meine Anerkennung deiner Liebe
Deine Anerkennung meiner Liebe
(Alles geht uns gut)
Aber dann gab es die Zeit,
Veränderung.
Unsicherheit.
Beklommenheit.
(Alles geht mir fremd)
Mein Misverständnis deiner Liebe
Mein Misverständnis deiner Anerkennung
Aber ich verstehe.
Verstehe ich gut.
Die Anerkennung ist nicht so.
Die Anerkennung gab es nicht mehr.
Die Anerkennung wird der Verlust
Der Verlust des Trostes
Der Verlust der Ruhe
Der Verlust der Freiheit
Der Verlust der Liebe.

The world is lonely while they cry for help and
they reach their hands up.
In words, in books, in paintings,
they portray their loneliness hidden or blatant.
But even that isn't enough to highlight
the lowlights of our lives
It's in our blood, it's in our veins, our bones,
it's in the cigarettes that we smoke.
Which fills the air and wails out loud,
screaming a symphony of isolation.
It's hidden in the corners of the cities,
hidden in the tall green grass of the countryside
It's everywhere you look, in famous words,
in ancient books.
It fills your mind, it takes you hold, it's in the tiniest key hole,
but enough.
It's enough to spark a burning fire, to long for another's touch,
to feel desire
From another human being,
to share in what is the only thing worth keeping
Human company. We long, we dream, we scream for it,
and we hope it favors us too.
It's overwhelming, it makes me, it makes me long
like so many others
We are not alone in our loneliness
and what a queer thought that is

Run free,
Run wild,
Run like the wind,
This way no one can hurt you.
You are the creature of the night,
You run through the darkness,
No one likes you,
No one cares,
The thing with you,
Is what you do,
You stab, slaughter and ****
Run free,
Run wild,
Run like the wind,
This way no one can hurt you.
The clock strikes midnight,
And the angry mob wait for you,
With torches,
With Pitchforks,
And with guns,
They all want a piece of you,
'Cause you stole their young'uns!
Run free,
Run wild,
Run like the wind,
This way no one can hurt you.
Hurt you!

Naziism gained it's foothold in Germany
when the Reichstag was burned down:
this gave them the pretext needed
to suspend the rights of the Citizenry indefinitely
to ensure "security".
Sound familiar?
It should be frightening how similar it in fact is to modern events:
This rhymes with modern American legislation:
CISPA, the PATRIOT acts, the NDAA, etc.
Governments have always used such events
to catalyze and capitalize their own motives:
Tread lightly.
We enter a new age of Oppression with each passing administration;
we are not immune because we are hubristic
if anything, we are more vulnerable for it.
Sieg Heil,
für Gott ist mit uns.
Wir können nicht verloren
denn Gott ist mit uns.
Sieg Heil,
Amerika über alles.
Sieg Heil,
Das viertes ***** wird herum.
Sieg Heil.
Sieg Heil.

We see so much that isn’t right
also versperr dich nicht und hör hin
Sie sagen soviel, so vieles ohne Sinn! /They say so much, so much without sense!
Was ich will
Sind Taten und kein Wortgefecht
irgendwie hat jeder Recht
haltet doch was ihr versprecht
Weil viele Menschen so verloren sind
Ausgebrannt und Mittellos!
Denn wir stellen uns alle blind
Alle doch wir stellen uns alle blind
Warum sind wir so blind
Hin Schau hin
Vielleicht wachen sie auf und
schaun hin..
Zwischen das Glück zwischen Ruhm
zwischen all' diesen Dingen
Look
When I see, how may people are
I would like to have a new beginning
It´s that you admit
that the kids get lost here
Desperately and without hope
because we all act as if we are blind
we act as if we are blind
When all the others can´t see anything
look there
because we see many things that are not alright
do not avoid and listen carefully
they say so many things without meaning
What I want
is action and no battle of words
somehow everybody is right
keep your promises
because many people are lost
Desperately and without hope
because we all act as if we are blind
we act as if we are blind
When all the others can´t see anything
look there
because we see many things that are not alright
do not avoid and listen carefully
they say so many things without meaning
Why are we so blind
look there
Maybe they wake up and
have a look...
In between luck and glory
in between all those things
don´t you recognize, what´s really important
While looking for the sense - for the sense
I open my eyes now and look there (watch out)
When all the others can´t see anything
look there
because we see many things that are not alright
do not avoid and listen carefully
they say so many things without meaning

*Piano music on Friday nights
German Chocolate cake for dessert ,
Candle light
Sugary , Plum wine with Cherry -
tobacco in a favorite pipe
Faraway lightning in Alabama skies
Pecan brittle , Storybooks , Fairytales
Gin Rummy , carrying young'uns to bed
The final smoke from the front porch rail -
in the company of a million stars
Trying to work a bit of magic on a red guitar
Time is a rambler indeed , a loner , impatient -
locking eyes with no one
One last song as the wind precedes the storm -
once more
Settle in for another day
A night then a few more years
So forth and so on* .....
