You are my freedom
But
I miss my *******
And that is my sin
James Sep 2020
Depression at its finest,
from the darkness ever shineth.
Save me now O my God;
Jesus, my King, here I stand.
If this Your punishment be,
I willingly accept with glee.
If this be of the serpent wee,
O Lord deliver me!
God, I've sinned.
A seed has rooted deep within!
Your chastisement Lord,
of love it is; I'm in accord.
Perhaps not over but bring me through,
Up from the bottom of the cold, deep blue...
Repentance is daily. Turn your face to the Lord and bow your heart at His cross. Rejoice! He is the great Deliverer! Up from the grave rose Jesus Christ! There is victory in our Lord of lords.

They built the rhinoceros because God
foretold of coming war in which they'd need
sanctuary from the evil unthawed
beasts Earth's burning would hellishly unleash.
They built him of steel and electronics,
infused with a human intelligence,
and huddled raw within like unmade bricks
within a kiln, until their God dispensed
His justice: No escape / the heat turned on
They baked / the devil-beasts of *****
Inspired by Vladimir Kush's painting "Trojan Horse" and playing around with traditional sonnet form. This is my attempt at an instasonnet (everything on IG is shorter, right?), reduced from 14 lines (ABAB CDCD EFEF GG) to 10 lines (ABAB CDCD EE).

Black rosary beads
Holy prayers uttered to God
Penance for my sins
Spadille Sep 2020
Love is such a sinful desire
It blinds the eyes
Deafens the ears
Numbs the body
Controls the soul
Kills the heart
It widely opens the gates of hell
Welcoming the blazing fire
Awakening the devils
Befriending Satan
And disappointing God.

****** Most Fowl!
by Michael R. Burch

“****** most foul!”
cried the mouse to the owl.

“Friend, I’m no sinner;
you’re merely my dinner!”
the wise owl replied
as the tasty snack died.

NOTE: In an attempt to demonstrate that not all couplets are heroic, I have created a series of poems called “Less Heroic Couplets.” I believe even poets should abide by truth-in-advertising laws! This poem also questions who the "original sinner" was. How was it not the Creator, if such a being exists, since owls are forced by nature to ****** innocent mice and other prey animals? Is it possible that the Creator is not so heroic either? Keywords/Tags: Death, Nature, Rhyme, Pain, Creator, Predator, Prey, Mouse, Owl

Hit the pen
Pick up the pen
Bleed ink
Till you’re free of sin
These poems are confessions
These poems are life lessons
That I was second guessing
Mistaking curses for blessings
One night stands
Instead of weddings
Who I am
Is foretelling
Of where I’ll be
Heading
The world’s ending
Is Armageddon
And I know what I’ll be regretting

All the poems in the world
Won’t get me into heaven

Staring at the moon,
It looks gloomy.
Tears in its eyes,
Guilt, surrounds it tonight.

It's not full tonight,
Just a quarter is seen.
Clouds hide,
The guilty being.

I look at the stars,
They don't shine like they used to.
The sky,
Represents my mood.

Guilt and tears,
For I know I sinned.
I can feel it,
Flowing within.

The clouds part,
I see the moon.
The guilt is gone,
The clouds helped it bloom.

The stars are bright,
And a smile blossom.
I can let go,
I found the way.

The withering flower
in me blossoms,
And as the moon now shines,
I shine too.

The clouds helped it,
And it helped me too.
The sin and the guilt pass,
I am free at last.
